Ichthyol ointment result. Ichthyol ointment - the unique properties of an affordable remedy. For external use for abscesses, from pus

Ichthyol pharmacy ointment is a drug that stops the inflammatory reaction, disinfects the damaged surface of the body. The drug works on a par with imported drugs. Instructions for the use of ichthyol ointment for abscesses helps to correctly determine the dosage, frequency of use of the drug.

Ichthyol ointment is a black substance that has a thick, oily consistency. It has a specific rich smell. The aroma of the drug can be compared with natural tar. In the pharmaceutical market, the drug is available in tubes, glass jars, accompanied by instructions.

The instructions describe in detail the composition, dosage of the ointment, the frequency of use of the drug for abscesses. Its active ingredient is ichthyol. It is the sulfonic acid of shale. Obtained from clay. The composition of the medicine includes vaseline. It softens the skin. The main active substance penetrates deeper into the pathological process better.

There are two types of ointments according to the amount of the active ingredient from abscesses. The remedy is 10%, 20%.

There are candles based on ichthyol. Both forms of the drug have instructions, are used to treat purulent processes.

Ichthyol natural remedy is used for abscesses according to the following indications:

  1. Ichthyol ointment draws out pus. According to the described instructions, the medicine stops the symptoms of streptoderma, trichophytosis, eczema, microsporia.
  2. The drug improves the clinical picture in burn disease.
  3. Ichthyol effective ointment helps patients with purulent abscesses on the body: boils, carbuncles, abscesses. Under its action, abscesses are opened in the late period of maturation.
  4. The medicine is used to reduce the inflammatory process in the joints with arthritis.

The instructions provide a huge list of suppurative pathologies, in which the use of ichthyol therapeutic ointment is indicated.

How does the ointment act on an abscess with pus

Most purulent acne on the skin of the face, back are subcutaneous formations. They arise as a result of non-compliance with the rules of personal hygiene, increased sweating, improper functioning of the sebaceous glands. Squeezing out the abscess, not following the instructions, can result in the spread of infection to the surrounding tissues, an increase in the area of pathology. Ichthyol pharmacy ointment contains a lot of sulfur. The use of the substance helps to painlessly open the abscess. Under its action, inflammation in the pathological area decreases, purulent contents depart.

The pharmacy instructions mention the local irritating effect of the ointment. Its effect extends to sensitive nerve fibers. A few hours after application, irritation is replaced by reverse processes. The sensitivity of nerve endings decreases, which leads to a change in blood circulation in damaged tissues. Good microcirculation is accompanied by active metabolic processes. Wound healing after an abscess occurs faster by increasing the elasticity of the layers of the epidermis.

According to the instructions, the use of ichthyol natural ointment is indicated in situations accompanied by inflammation, suppuration, abscesses and painful sensations.

The analgesic effect occurs a couple of hours after the application of the medicine. The active substance inhibits the breakdown of arachidonic acid. The latter is a powerful mediator of inflammation. The use of a local medicine ends with a dulling of the pain syndrome.

Abscesses in different parts of the body can be complicated by secondary infection. Ichthyol therapeutic ointment, according to the instructions, has an antimycotic effect. Its use in the early stages of purulent diseases prevents the reproduction of dermatophytes. The drug destroys fungi in the wound area.

In medical practice, the use of ichthyolka is reduced to stopping bacterial processes. Their types are indicated in the instructions for the drug. Due to the antimicrobial effect, the population of staphylococci, streptococci in the area of the abscess decreases. Early use allows you to prevent serious complications of purulent skin diseases. Strict implementation of medical recommendations guarantees a quick recovery.

Ichthyol pharmacy ointment can be connected at different stages of dermatological diseases. The instructions allow the use of sulfuric matter at the first sign of an abscess. After application of the local preparation, the edema disappears, the size of the focus of inflammation decreases, pain and hyperemia disappear.

The effectiveness and speed of the therapeutic effect of the drug depends on compliance with the instructions. You can not independently increase the dose of ichthyol. It can give an allergic reaction. The use of the ointment in low therapeutic doses threatens with a lack of results. To achieve the desired effect, medical consultation is indispensable.

Ways to use ichthyol ointment for purulent abscesses

The use of the tool is based on the observance of several points of the instruction:

  1. The agent is applied 2-3 r / day to the area of the abscess. An increase in the frequency of use can adversely affect the patient's condition.
  2. Ichthyolka can lubricate purulent abscesses or apply compresses.
  3. According to medical recommendations, pharmacy instructions, the procedure for applying the product should be carried out under sterile conditions. Before using ichthyolka, you need to wash your hands, treat the damaged surface with antiseptics.
  4. During treatment, you can not independently open the abscess with improvised means. Ichthyol therapeutic ointment, due to petroleum jelly, penetrates well into the pathological focus. When applied, it does not damage the top layer of the skin, which prevents the penetration of infection.
  5. According to the instructions for compresses with ointment, sterile cotton swabs and gauze bandages are taken.
  6. It is necessary to observe the terms of treatment. The product can be applied for 20-21 days. The first improvements occur a couple of days after the use of the drug.

According to the instructions, the ointment should be applied in a thin layer over the entire area of the abscess. Additionally, 1 cm is captured on each side of the formation.

Ichthyolka is applied with light massage movements. You can not strongly squeeze the area of the abscess.

Application in the form of a compress involves the use of bandages, cotton swabs, gauze. Ichthyolka is applied to the cotton wool in a plentiful layer. Then lies on the area of the abscess. From above it is fixed with bandages in a circular motion. Dressings must be changed every 10 hours according to the instructions. Experts recommend that after the drug has dried, immediately apply a new portion.

Under the influence of a deeply penetrating drug, a purulent head is formed in the center of the formation. Each new application of the agent brings the maturation of the abscess closer and the pathological contents coming out. Ichthyolka draws out pus 4-5 days after the start of use. A week later, the abscess breaks, a wound forms. The instruction recommends lubricating the resulting skin defect with hydrogen peroxide, chlorhexidine and other antiseptic solutions.

For the treatment of abscesses, a preparation of 20% consistency is used. Inflamed acne, open and closed comedones can be treated with 10% medicine.

When ichthyol ointment should not be used

The medicine is widely used in gynecological, dermatological, pediatric, therapeutic, surgical hospitals. After applying the drug, a quick opening of the abscess occurs. Numerous advantages of ichthyolka do not exclude possible contraindications. According to the medicinal instructions, the drug is not suitable for the following categories of people:

  1. Ichthyol ointment from an abscess on the finger is not used in people who are hypersensitive to the components of the drug. It is manifested by redness, itching at the site of exposure to sulfuric matter. Using an ichthyolka according to the instructions rarely ends with the development of an allergic reaction, but there is a minimal risk.
  2. Ichthyol ointment is used for abscesses in adult patients and children over 3 years old. The drug is not prescribed for babies.
  3. Ichthyol treatment of abscesses on the fingers is not carried out when the expiration date, according to the instructions, has expired.

The presence of these situations precludes the use of the drug. Therapy of abscesses of different localizations is carried out with Vishnevsky balm, Levomekol and other pharmacy medicines according to the instructions. They have similar properties. Drugs should be selected by the attending physician.

Ichthyol healing ointment is an effective antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory agent that copes with purulent processes, abscesses on the skin, mucous membranes.

Ichthyol ointment is actively used in various branches of medicine - gynecology, proctology, urology. This is a time-tested remedy for the treatment of skin inflammatory pathologies. The ointment has a keratolytic, bactericidal, analgesic and local antiseptic effect. Its undoubted advantages are availability, low cost and ease of use.

The drug is characterized by some features of use. And its active ingredient refers to chemical compounds that can provoke allergic reactions. Therefore, it is necessary to consult a doctor before starting treatment. He will determine safe dosages, tell you how to minimize unwanted side effects.

The active ingredient in Ichthyol ointment is ichthammol. To obtain it, dry distillation of bituminous shale is carried out. The result of chemical reactions is a thick syrupy black mass with a very specific smell. Ichthammol contains a very different thiophene containing a high concentration of sulfur.

It is this component that determines the therapeutic activity of Ichthyol ointment:
  • antimicrobial;
  • disinfectant;
  • regenerating.

The external agent is suitable for single-component therapy, as well as in combination with analgesics, glucocorticosteroids, antibiotics, sulfonamides. The drug is prescribed to patients who have been diagnosed with inflammation of the skin or mucous membranes as a result of infection.

They can simply lubricate the skin or be used as occlusive dressings. In gynecology and proctology, the use of tampons is practiced, which are inserted into the rectum or vagina.

Clinical and pharmacological group

How does Ichthyol ointment work after application to the skin and mucous membranes:
  • reduces the severity of pain syndrome;
  • stops acute and chronic inflammatory processes;
  • conducts a kind of rehabilitation of infectious foci;
  • improves blood supply to damaged tissues with nutrients and biologically active substances, as well as molecular oxygen;
  • accelerates the processes of metabolism, and, consequently, regeneration.

The anti-inflammatory agent normalizes microcirculation, which leads to the rapid elimination of edema and hematomas.

Its use makes it possible to prevent putrefactive processes due to the aseptic and drying effect.

pharmachologic effect

The medicinal properties of Ichthyol ointment are based on a high concentration of the trace element sulfur in the chemical composition. Ichthammol irritates the nerve endings, gradually reducing their sensitivity.

Changes in innervation cause the elimination of pain after applying the drug to closed wound surfaces. Ichthyol ointment effectively draws pus from the affected tissues, which contributes to the rapid healing of wounds. This is due to the aggregation of protein particles into larger conglomerates and narrowing of the capillaries.

The drug has a multifaceted therapeutic effect on the skin and mucous membranes:
  • bactericidal and bacteriostatic. Ichthammol prevents the active growth and reproduction of pathogenic bacteria - staphylococci and streptococci;
  • antimycotic. The sulfur-containing compound disrupts the vital processes of pathogenic fungi, including pathogens of stomatitis, onychomycosis, and candidiasis.

The active ingredient of the drug has an inhibitory effect on the production of powerful mediators of pain and inflammation of leukotrienes. The result is a decrease in the migration of immune system cells to infectious foci. The optimal permeability of small blood vessels is restored, edema and hematomas are resolved. After the penetration of ichthammol into inflammatory foci, the analgesic effect is achieved by reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins.

Pharmacokinetics

After applying the drug to the tissues affected by inflammation, the active ingredient begins to be gradually absorbed. It is characterized by both transdermal and transepidermal penetration into inflammatory foci. This ability allows you to use the tool for the treatment of diseases of the organs of the musculoskeletal system.

How does Ichthyol ointment work after the absorption of ichthammol:
  • about 5-6% of the active ingredient penetrates into the systemic circulation;
  • most of it accumulates in damaged tissues;
  • Ichthammol is metabolized by liver cells with the formation of non-bioactive chemical compounds;
  • the main amount of metabolites is evacuated from the body along with bile acids with each bowel movement.

If the drug is used for occlusive dressings, then its therapeutic effect is significantly prolonged. With this method of use, up to 10% of the main substance can penetrate into the bloodstream.

Release form and composition

The composition of ichthyol ointment is not diverse. The drug contains the active ingredient ichthammol and the auxiliary component medical vaseline. Domestic manufacturers produce 10% and 20% of the drug in aluminum tubes or dark glass jars. The secondary packaging is a cardboard box with an attached annotation, and sometimes it is missing altogether.

In this case, instructions for use:
  • glued on the bank;
  • issued by the pharmacist separately when purchasing the drug.

In addition to the ointment, Ichthyol's therapeutic line includes rectal suppositories of the same name.

Instructions for use

The instructions for use of Ichthyol ointment stipulate several ways to use it. For the treatment of infectious and inflammatory skin pathologies, it is simply evenly distributed on damaged tissues. In joint therapy, occlusive dressings are practiced, which should be changed daily.

How to carry out the treatment procedure:
  • a thin layer of an external agent is applied to a sterile napkin or a bandage folded in several layers;
  • the bandage is applied to the site of pain and inflammation, and then fixed with strips of adhesive tape.

The drug has one significant drawback - it heavily stains clothes and bedding. Therefore, patients often cover the application area with a cellophane film. This is not always advisable, and sometimes unsafe. Under the film, the temperature rises, which contributes to the activation of microorganisms. Before starting therapy, you should consult your doctor about the possibility of using airtight dressings.

For the treatment of candidiasis, vaginitis and vulvovaginitis, tampons with Ichthyol ointment are inserted into the vagina once or twice a day. Gynecologists do not recommend using it undiluted.

Before applying to a swab, the product can be diluted with a small amount of medical glycerin. Since ichthammol penetrates into the systemic circulation, rectal administration of tampons is practiced in the treatment of cervicitis and andexitis.

Indications and contraindications

Ichthyol ointment in gynecology is used in the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the organs of the reproductive system. The drug eliminates not only the symptoms, but also the cause of andexitis, cervicitis, bacterial and fungal vaginitis or vulvovaginitis.

It helps well with chemical, thermal, radiation burns and frostbite of various localization. For the treatment of acne, acne and post-acne, a 10% topical agent is used.

The ointment is included in the therapeutic regimens of patients diagnosed with the following pathologies:
  • inflammation of the hair follicle as a result of the penetration of pathogenic bacteria;
  • dry and weeping eczema;
  • erysipelas;
  • hydradenitis;
  • pyoderma;
  • dermatitis, including allergic and neurogenic etiology;
  • rosacea;
  • staphyloderma;
  • streptoderma;
  • ulcerative lesions of the skin and mucous membranes.

In the instructions for use of Ichthyol ointment, it is recommended to use it for boils and abscesses, accompanied by the formation of pus. Traumatologists and orthopedists prescribe it to patients to relieve inflammation in the articular structures. Indications are often arthritis and intercostal neuralgia.

In proctology, the use of the drug is practiced for the treatment of anal fissures, internal and external hemorrhoids. Under its influence, tissue regeneration is accelerated, contributing to a quick recovery. With hemorrhoids, the ointment can also be used as an antiseptic and to reduce the intensity of pain, itching and swelling.

The presence of only two components in the composition of Ichthyol ointment explains a small number of its contraindications. It is not prescribed when diagnosing an individual sensitivity of ichtammol in a patient. Some people refuse treatment because of the specific smell of the drug.

Dosage and administration

About how to use Ichthyol ointment, it is best to ask your doctor.

The clinical efficacy and duration of the therapeutic course depend on the method of application.

For example, to eliminate large acne, the product must be applied pointwise 2-3 times a day. And for the treatment of rashes on the skin of the body or face, it is advisable to use occlusive dressings. Instructions for use recommends applying Ichthyol ointment to the boil 3-4 times a day, without rubbing. This multiplicity is especially relevant for abscesses with a high content of pus.

There are the following rules for the treatment of inflammatory and infectious skin diseases:
  • use only sterile wipes or bandages;
  • daily change of bandages;
  • pre-treatment of the skin with warm water and soap, and then with antiseptic solutions (Furacilin, Chlorhexidine or Miramistin).

The duration of the therapeutic course varies depending on the stage of the inflammatory process and the degree of tissue damage. The average duration of treatment is 10-14 days. It takes about 3 weeks to heal anal fissures and eliminate the manifestations of hemorrhoids. A single dose of the drug is 1.5-2 g, which corresponds to 1-2 cm strips of ointment squeezed out of the tube.

Side effects and special instructions

When applying Ichthyol ointment to an open wound, discomfort often occurs - burning and itching. Skin irritation may develop and the inflammatory process intensify. If the drug is used on large areas of the body, then an excess amount of ichthammol penetrates into the bloodstream. This can cause systemic side effects: nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and fatigue. In the process of treatment, allergic skin reactions are also possible - rash, swelling and redness of the epidermis.

drug interaction

In the process of treatment with Ichthyol ointment, drugs whose active ingredient is iodine should not be used. It can react chemically with sulfur ions to form salts. These compounds can irritate the skin and provoke the formation of new inflammatory foci.

Pregnancy and lactation

Ichthyol ointment during pregnancy is used without any restrictions.

Only the duration of treatment is reduced to 7-10 days. Ichthyol ointment during pregnancy can be used in the treatment of any skin, articular, gynecological pathologies. When treating cracked nipples with a remedy, its residues must be washed off before feeding the child.

Prices and terms of dispensing from pharmacies

Ichthyol ointment is not used to treat the eyes, so there is no ophthalmic form. The cost of 10% of the product 20.0 g is about 50 rubles, 20% 25.0 g - 90 rubles.

The drug is subject to over-the-counter dispensing.

Ichthyol ointment is an external drug that is used for antiseptic and anti-inflammatory treatment of the skin surface. It has a high degree of efficiency, a minimum number of side effects and contraindications.

Ichthyol ointment is a drug that is used to treat dermatological diseases of all types and nature of origin, as well as other pathological conditions, the course of which is associated with the destruction of the epidermis.

The drug allows you to suppress the growth of bacterial microflora, accelerate the healing process of open wounds and trophic ulcers, relieve acute and chronic inflammation in the area of infection.

The table below lists the types of diseases in the presence of which it is recommended to use ichthyol ointment as the main or auxiliary drug.

Type of disease Therapeutic effect
BurnIchthyol ointment is recommended for systemic treatment of chemical and thermal burns of all degrees of severity, regardless of their location. It is applied in an even layer on the damaged area of the skin, covering the edges of healthy tissue. It helps to prevent infection of the wound, and also destroys the existing bacterial microflora. The drug has an anesthetic effect, which is very important for severe pain, which is present with burns of large areas of the skin.
ErysipelasA recurrent skin disease caused by group A streptococcus. It is manifested by a sharp increase in body temperature, reddening of the epidermis, a feeling of general malaise, physical weakness and intoxication of the body. The ointment is applied directly to the lesions of epithelial tissues in order to suppress the development of streptococcal infection. It is used as a prophylactic after treatment of erysipelas to avoid recurrence of the disease.
NeuralgiaViolation of the work of peripheral nerves, which is characterized by attacks of acute pain in the area of their location. For local anesthesia, removal of the inflammatory process, as well as the prevention of destructive changes in the structure of nerve endings, Ichthyol ointment is applied directly to the surface of the skin, where the pathological process develops. During the treatment of neuralgia, the ointment is used as an adjuvant in combination with injectable drugs that restore the functioning of the peripheral nervous system.
EczemaThis is an acute dermatosis that occurs suddenly, characterized by a dynamically developing clinical picture. It is accompanied by reddening of the skin, its peeling and the formation of rashes. It may appear as a result of the presence of concomitant diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, endocrine disorders, an autoimmune reaction of the body, bacterial infection of the epidermis. Regardless of the causes that caused eczema, the disease is successfully treated by regularly applying Ichthyol ointment to the foci of localization of dermatosis.
ArthritisInflammatory disease of the bone and connective tissue of the joints, which is characterized by the destruction of their internal structure. In the treatment of arthritis, Ichthyol ointment is used as a topical agent. It is applied to the skin surface of the diseased part of the musculoskeletal system. After the penetration of the active components into the inside of the joint, the effect of local anesthesia occurs, the inflammatory process decreases, and an antiseptic effect is provided.
Bacterial wound inflammationIchthyol ointment is recommended for use by people who have received mechanical damage to the skin as a result of cuts, scratching, and surgical operations. The drug is more effective in cases where bacterial infection of open wounds has occurred with the onset of purulent inflammation. Ichthyol ointment disinfects the area of its application, accelerates the process of scarring of the edges of the wound, relieves inflammation, and also removes sanious and purulent exudate.
Carbuncles, boils, purulent abscessAcute inflammation of the epidermis and deeper epithelial tissues, during the development of which there is no violation of the integrity of the skin. A person experiences severe pain and is forced to suffer until a breakthrough occurs with the flow of purulent exudate. Application of Ichthyol ointment to the surface of the inflammatory formation provides accelerated maturation of the boil, as well as painless evacuation of purulent contents within 1-2 days after the start of the drug.

The presence of the following symptoms of the disease is a good reason for the use of Ichthyol ointment:

  • inflammation of the surface layer of the epidermis and deeper epithelial tissues;
  • the presence of signs of a chemical or thermal burn of the skin;
  • infection of the epithelium with a bacterial or viral infection that progresses, causes cell death and dysfunction of the skin;
  • the formation of abscesses, abscesses, boils and other formations of inflammatory or bacterial etiology, inside which there is a purulent-sanitary exudate;
  • prolonged pain in the joint, the nature of which is associated with its arthritis, developing acute or chronic inflammation;
  • the appearance of multiple rashes and red spots on certain parts of the body, caused by infection with a streptococcal infection;
  • the need for painless evacuation of purulent contents from an open or closed wound, inside which there is a pathogenic microflora;
  • dermatosis of the skin surface caused by an autoimmune or allergic reaction of the body.

External examination and determination of the above signs of dermatological diseases is carried out by a dermatologist. A specialist in this profile decides on the need to use Ichthyol ointment, or another external drug.

Composition of ichthyol ointment

Ichthyol ointment is used to treat infectious and inflammatory skin diseases, heal trophic ulcers, abscesses, abscesses, and eliminate rashes.

The drug contains the following active substances:

  • ichtammol- 1 g of ointment contains at least 100 mg of this chemical agent, which inhibits the growth of bacterial microflora, acts as a local anesthetic component, stimulates more accelerated scarring of the epithelial tissues of the wound along the edges;
  • white soft paraffin- for better absorption of the active substance deep into the epithelial tissues;
  • glycerol- softens dry and inflamed skin, prevents its dehydration, peeling, cracking.

Ichthyol ointment has a simple biochemical composition, but at the same time, the drug has a high degree of efficiency and can be used as the main tool in the treatment of complex dermatological diseases.

In what form is ichthyol ointment produced

The drug is available in the form of an ointment for external use, which has a black-brown hue and is distinguished by a sharp chemical smell of the active substance - ichthammol. Packed by the manufacturer in a plastic jar or metal tube with a capacity of 30 g. The consistency of the ointment is very thick and viscous. Getting on a warm body, the drug does not melt and does not spread over the epithelial surface.

The second pharmacological form of release of the drug is suppositories, which are used for rectal and vaginal administration in order to treat diseases in the field of gynecology, urology, and proctology.

Suppositories are packed in cassettes made of medical material that does not let the sun's rays through. In composition, this is the same ichthyol ointment, but only of a thicker consistency, on the basis of which candles are made.

Pharmacodynamics of ichthyol ointment

The pharmacodynamics of the drug consists in its following properties and action on section of epithelial tissues in the area of application of Ichthyol ointment:

  • local disinfection of wound surfaces;
  • reduction of the inflammatory process, and, subject to regular use, its complete elimination;
  • removal of acute and aching pain that is present in the area of the wound, inflamed joint or peripheral nerve.

The first therapeutic effect is felt 1.5-2 hours after applying the ointment to the affected area of the epithelium. After 2-3 days of using the agent, the positive results of treatment are determined by the visually satisfactory condition of the wound surface.

Pharmacokinetics of ichthyol ointment

After applying the ointment to the surface of the diseased skin area, the active components of the drug are rapidly absorbed into the superficial and deeper layers of the epidermis.

Ichthyol ointment enters the bloodstream in a very small amount

The drug acts locally, but a small part of ichthammol can enter the bloodstream. After that, the drug is excreted by the kidneys along with urine. It does not accumulate in the liver tissues, which makes the drug safer compared to other drugs of a similar spectrum of action.

The use of ichthyol ointment

Ichthyol ointment is used to treat patients of all age groups who have signs of dermatological diseases of bacterial, viral etiology, or to eliminate the consequences of mechanical injuries.

For children under 18

The instructions for use of the drug indicate that there are no clinical data on the reaction of the child's body to the active components of the drug. Despite this, Ichthyol ointment is actively used in daily dermatological practice.

The drug is used to treat children over the age of 3 years. A prerequisite for safe therapy is that the child is under the supervision of a pediatric dermatologist or pediatrician. For the treatment of a child under the age of 18, it is enough to treat the diseased skin area no more than 1 time per day.

For adults

Patients of the adult age group undergo therapy with Ichthyol ointment for 7-10 days, depending on the severity of the disease. The drug is applied to the surface of a sterile bandage, and then placed on the affected area of the skin.

With an antiseptic dressing based on Ichthyol ointment, you must walk for at least 3 hours. The recommended number of treatments is 2-3 times a day. To fix the bandage bandage, you can use a medical plaster.

For pregnant

Ichthyol ointment is used to treat children, adult men and women, but is not recommended for use by patients who are pregnant or who are lactating a child with breast milk.

This warning is associated with the risk of ichthammol getting into the tissues of the fetus and the occurrence of developmental anomalies, as well as congenital diseases. The use of the drug is possible only if the therapeutic benefit is an order of magnitude higher than the potential damage to the health of the child.

For the elderly

Ichthyol ointment is used to treat elderly patients. The manufacturer of the drug did not provide for any restrictions indicating the need to reduce the dosage for patients in this category.

Elderly people perform treatment of diseased areas of the body 2-3 times a day until a complete cure for a dermatological disease. The drug is laid out on a piece of sterile gauze bandage and attached to the epithelium, or applied directly to the epidermis. The drug is used with caution in the treatment of elderly people with chronic renal failure.

Contraindications of ichthyol ointment

Ichthyol ointment has practically no contraindications and is well tolerated by most patients.

Despite this, the drug is forbidden to use in the following cases:

  • increased sensitivity of the body to the constituent components of the ointment, which is expressed in an allergic reaction;
  • fungal diseases of the skin, in which Ichthyol ointment will not have a full therapeutic effect, but will only temporarily remove signs of the inflammatory process;
  • chronic and acute renal failure;
  • the state of pregnancy and lactation of the child with breast milk.

Depending on the individual characteristics of the human body, as well as the presence of concomitant diseases of the internal organs, the attending physician may find other reasons for limiting the use of Ichthyol ointment.

Overdose

In case of compliance with the rules of the instructions for the use of Ichthyol ointment, an overdose of the drug is excluded. If a person treats a diseased skin area too often, applies an excessive amount of medication, allows it to enter the surface of the mucous membrane of the mouth and eyes, then ichthammol may accumulate in the bloodstream.

In this case, the following signs of an overdose of the drug occur:

If signs of an overdose appear, stop using the ointment and seek medical attention immediately. To remove the effect of intoxication of the body with ichthammol, it is necessary to take a sorbent drug (Activated carbon, Smecta, Atoxil, Enterosgel, White coal), and also provide yourself with plenty of fluids.

Side effects

Ichthyol ointment is well tolerated by most patients, regardless of their age category. The drug has a simple chemical composition, which causes a minimum number of side effects. The development of a negative reaction of the body is possible only in people whose body has an individual sensitivity to the active components of the drug.

In this case, the following side effects may occur:

Much less often, the side effects of the drug appear in the form of an acute allergic reaction, which is accompanied by itching of the oral mucosa, the occurrence of shortness of breath and bronchial spasm.

The occurrence of such phenomena indicates intolerance to the body of the active substance of the ointment - ichthammol.

The patient's actions must be immediate. The use of the drug is discontinued, and the patient himself with similar reactions should take an antihistamine (Suprastin, Loratadin, L-cet, Aleron) and seek advice from a dermatologist, an allergist.

The combination of ichthyol ointment with other means

Ichthyol ointment goes well with the active ingredients of other drugs that are used in the treatment of dermatological, cardiovascular, endocrine, as well as diseases of other body systems. The entry of ichtammol into the composition of the bloodstream and tissues of internal organs is insignificant.

Despite this, the manufacturer of the drug prohibits the simultaneous use ointments with medicines that contain the following substances:

  • iodine salts;
  • alkaloids of all types that have a synthetic or natural etiology;
  • heavy metal salts (this component may disappear into the patient's body as a result of chemical poisoning).

Otherwise, it is not excluded that the combination of the applied ichthammol and other medicines located on the same area of the skin will lead to the formation of other chemical compounds. There is a high probability that this will lead to the development of side effects and allergic reactions of the body.

Conditions and terms of storage of ichthyol ointment

To preserve the therapeutic properties of the drug, as well as to prevent chemical changes in its composition, Ichthyol ointment should be stored at a temperature not exceeding +25 degrees Celsius.

It is not allowed to find the tube under the influence of direct sunlight, as well as violation of the integrity of the metal tube or plastic jar. If these conditions are met, then the drug does not lose its medicinal properties over the next 5 years. The medication should be kept in a dark place out of the reach of children.

Conditions for the release of ichthyol ointment from pharmacies

To purchase Ichthyol ointment, special permission from a doctor is not required. The drug is dispensed without a prescription in retail pharmacy chains. The average cost of a tube or jar with Ichthyol ointment with a capacity of 30 g and a 10% concentration of the active substance is 75 rubles.

Analogues of ichthyol ointment

All drugs with a similar spectrum of action, like those of Ichthyol ointment, contain the active substance - ichthammol, or they have the same properties.

There are the following analogues of Ichthyol ointment:

Ichthyol ointment is a universal antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, anesthetic and wound healing agent that is used to treat dermatological diseases. The drug, produced in the form of suppositories, allows you to treat diseases of the female and male genitourinary system.

Ichthyol ointment is a safe, easy-to-use and affordable external application that can heal the wound surface of the skin, suppress bacterial infection and restore the normal functioning of the epidermis in 7-10 days.

Video about Ichthyol ointment

About the use of Ichthyol ointment:

Ichthyol is an anti-inflammatory drug that has a local antiseptic and analgesic effect. Ichthyol is used in gynecology, urology and dermatology. It is produced in the form of pure Ichthyol, Ichthyol suppositories and Ichthyol ointment.

Pharmacological action of Ichthyol

In accordance with the instructions for Ichthyol, the active ingredient in the preparation of all forms of release is Ichthyol.

An auxiliary component in the composition of suppositories with ichthyol is witepsol.

An auxiliary component that is part of the Ichthyol ointment is medical vaseline.

Ichthyol is a powerful antiseptic and disinfectant of natural origin.

Ichthyol ointment has local antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and keratolytic effects. The drug has a bactericidal effect against certain types of yeast-like fungi, pathogenic staphylococci and streptococci. Does not affect gram-negative microorganisms. Ichthyol ointment effectively eliminates itching and softens the process of keratinization of the skin, thereby increasing its elasticity. The processes of regeneration and metabolism in the skin are also accelerated, which leads to a decrease in flaking. The ointment is recommended to be used as a reducing agent in the regressing and stationary stages of psoriasis, since under the influence of ichthyol, the skin vessels expand. Ichthyol ointment is an external anti-inflammatory and antiseptic used to treat various infectious and inflammatory diseases of the skin, mucous membranes and pelvic organs. The ointment is used very widely, not only for the treatment of skin inflammatory processes, but also in gynecological, urological and proctological practices, since it can be absorbed into the local bloodstream through the mucous membrane of the colon and vagina, and have an anti-inflammatory and disinfectant effect on the pelvic organs.

    Composition and forms of release

    Currently, under the commercial name "Ichthyol ointment" registered in Russia, two dosage forms of the drug are produced:

    • Ointment for external use;
    • Suppositories (candles) for rectal administration (into the rectum).
    The ointment has a homogeneous, not thick consistency, is dark brown in color and emits a specific smell of ichthammol. It is produced in dark glass jars with a volume of 25, 800 and 1800 g. Ichthyol suppositories have the shape of a cylinder, pointed on one side, painted in dark color. Available in packs of 10 pieces.

    Both ointment and suppositories contain as an active ingredient ichthammol (ichthyol) in various concentrations. So, suppositories contain 200 mg of ichthammol each. And ointment for medical use - 10 g of ichthammol per 100 g of ointment (or 100 mg per 1 g of ointment), which corresponds to a concentration of 10%.

    In addition, the pharmaceutical market also has Ichthyol ointment for veterinary use. Veterinary ointment is available with two possible concentrations of the active substance - 10% and 20%. Many people use veterinary Ichthyol ointment to treat a disease in humans, which is quite acceptable, since the drug is manufactured to the same standards as for humans. In principle, there are no differences in the quality of veterinary and "human" Ichthyol ointment. Many people prefer to buy veterinary Ichthyol ointment, since it is available in much larger jars (40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100, 130, 140, 350, 450, 500, 550 g and 1 kg).

    Ichthyol suppositories contain witepsol as auxiliary components, and the ointment for both veterinary and "human" use contains medical purified petroleum jelly.

    Therapeutic action (from which Ichthyol ointment helps)

    Ichthyol ointment contains ichthammol as an active ingredient, which, in turn, is a sulfur-containing compound. It is due to the sulfur content that ichthammol has the following therapeutic effects:

    • analgesic action;
    • Anti-inflammatory action;
    • Antiseptic action;
    • Keratoplastic action (softens and removes infiltrates, dries tissues, prevents the process of decay, which accelerates wound healing);
    • Improves microcirculation in the skin in the area of application.
    In addition, Ichthyol ointment accelerates tissue regeneration, contributing to the most rapid restoration of their normal structure and functions.

    Due to the combination of antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic action, Ichthyol ointment is excellent for the external treatment of any infectious and inflammatory skin diseases. The fact is that the ointment simultaneously reduces the severity of the inflammatory reaction, and relieves pain, and destroys the pathogen of the infectious-inflammatory process, which leads to a quick recovery.

    When applied to open wounds, the ointment reduces the production of fluid and pus due to vasoconstriction, which contributes to the rapid cleaning of the wound surface and the onset of healing.

    When applied to the skin and mucous membranes, Ichthyol ointment is able to be absorbed into the local bloodstream, from which it does not penetrate into the systemic circulation, but exerts its effect locally, only in the area of application. It is this ability of the ointment that predetermined its use in gynecology, urology and proctology. Doctors of the relevant specialties prescribe the introduction of Ichthyol ointment into the rectum, from where it is absorbed into the local bloodstream of the small pelvis, providing an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. This action has been successfully used to increase the effectiveness of conventional therapy for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs in men and women (endometritis, parametritis, prostatitis, etc.). That is, candles with Ichthyol ointment are used as part of the complex therapy of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs.

    Indications for use

    Ichthyol ointment is indicated for use in the treatment of the following infectious and inflammatory diseases of the skin:

    • Hidradenitis (purulent inflammation of the sweat glands of the armpit);
    • Pustular skin lesions (pyoderma);
    • Dermatitis of various origins;
    • Discoid lupus erythematosus;
    • burns;
    • Ostiofolliculitis (inflammation of the hair follicle);
    • Wounds, including purulent;
    • Sycosis (chronic inflammation of the hair follicles, provoked by a staphylococcal infection);
    • Streptoderma;
    • Furuncles and carbuncles;
    • Eczema;
    • Skin ulcers.
    In addition, Ichthyol ointment is indicated for external use to relieve pain and reduce the severity of inflammation as part of the complex treatment of the following diseases:
    • Arthritis;
    • Neuralgia.

    • Adnexitis;
    • vaginosis;
    • Metrites and parametrites;
    • prostatitis;
    • Salpingitis;
    • Endometritis.

    Instructions for use

    Ichthyol ointment - instructions for use

    The ointment is applied externally to the skin or injected into the vagina or rectum on a swab. It is preferable to inject the ointment into the rectum, because when it comes into contact with the vaginal mucosa, it has a strong irritant effect, manifested by itching and burning. However, if a woman believes that it is better to introduce the ointment into the vagina, then this can be done, since there will be no negative consequences other than irritation. But still, it is recommended to stop injecting the ointment into the vagina if irritation occurs, and switch to administering the drug into the rectum.

    For external use in skin diseases, neuralgia and arthritis, the ointment is applied in a thin layer to the affected surface of the skin, also capturing one centimeter of healthy skin from all sides of the lesion. The ointment is simply evenly distributed over the surface of the skin and is not rubbed. A layer that completely covers the skin so that it does not shine through is sufficient.

    A sterile gauze pad is applied over the ointment layer, which, if necessary, is fixed with a bandage.

    Ichthyol ointment is applied 2-3 times a day for 10-20 days. It is optimal to replace gauze wipes with ointment every 8 to 10 hours. Before reapplying, remove the old gauze dressing and wash the affected skin area with warm soapy water. Each time, Ichthyol ointment should be applied to pre-washed, clean skin.

    The duration of therapy for the treatment of skin diseases is on average 10-20 days, but if necessary, the course of treatment can be extended. With arthritis and neuralgia, the use of the ointment is indicated in courses lasting 10 to 14 days. Such courses of treatment can be periodically repeated as necessary, maintaining intervals of at least 2 to 3 weeks between them.

    In inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs, Ichthyol ointment can be injected into the vagina or into the rectum on a swab. A swab should be inserted into the rectum only after a bowel movement. If a bowel movement has not occurred by the time the tampon is inserted, then an enema should first be done.

    To administer the ointment into the rectum or vagina take a ready-made hygienic tampon or make it yourself from cotton wool. To facilitate insertion, the swab is moistened with a 10% glycerol solution to make it smooth. After that, 15 g of ointment is applied to the swab (about a teaspoon without a slide) and injected into the vagina or rectum.

    To easily insert a swab with ointment into the vagina, it is recommended to take the following position: lie on your back, bend your legs apart at the knees and lift your pelvis up. In this position, the entrance to the vagina will open as much as possible, as a result of which the tampon will easily enter inside, and the ointment from it will not be smeared on the skin of the perineum, but will get inside. For insertion, holding the pelvis in an elevated position, you should lean well on the shoulder blades, spread the labia apart with one hand, and gently push the tampon deep into the vagina with your finger with the other hand.

    It is best to insert a tampon into the rectum from the knee-elbow position. In this case, it is first recommended to lubricate the skin of the anus with a 10% solution of glycerin, then strain the stomach, as if trying to poop, and quickly push the tampon with your finger into the rectum. Tension of the abdomen with an imitation of an attempt to poop leads to some relaxation of the anal ring, as a result of which the tampon passes more easily into the rectum.

    Swabs with Ichthyol ointment are injected into the vagina or rectum 1-2 times a day for 10-14 days. If necessary, the course of treatment can be repeated, maintaining an interval of at least 2-3 weeks.

    Precautionary measures

    After working with the ointment, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.

    It is also necessary to avoid getting the ointment in the eyes and on the mucous membranes of the nose and throat. If the ointment accidentally gets into the eyes or mucous membranes of the oral and nasal cavities, then rinse them well with plenty of cold running water.

    Lactating women should additionally avoid getting the ointment on the nipples of the mammary glands. If this happens, then the nipples should be thoroughly washed with soap so that the child does not accidentally swallow the remnants of the ointment while suckling the breast.

    Ichthyol suppositories (candles) - instructions for use

    Suppositories are intended for topical use - injection into the rectum or vagina for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs in men and women.

    It is recommended to inject suppositories into the rectum, however, women often inject the drug into the vagina, believing that this is more effective. In principle, suppositories have exactly the same effect on the pelvic organs when injected both into the rectum and into the vagina, therefore, from the point of view of the effectiveness of treatment, there is no difference between these methods of using the drug. But when inserted into the vagina, the suppository can cause irritation, manifested by itching and burning. In such a situation, it is better to switch to rectal administration of the drug.

    Suppositories should be inserted into the rectum only after a preliminary bowel movement. If defecation has not occurred by the time of the next administration of the suppository, then an enema should be done.

    Both in the rectum and in the vagina, the suppository with Ichthyol ointment should be injected deeply, pushing it through the entire length of the finger.

    Suppositories are administered 1-2 times a day for 10-14 days. If necessary, the courses of therapy are repeated, keeping intervals between them lasting at least 2-3 weeks.

    Influence on the ability to control mechanisms

    Ointment and suppositories do not affect the ability to control mechanisms, therefore, against the background of their use, you can engage in any activity that requires a high speed of reactions and concentration of attention, if the general condition of a person allows.

    Overdose

    Overdose was not recorded even once during the entire period of observation of the use of the drug. If the ointment is accidentally swallowed, the stomach should be washed and a sorbent should be taken (Polysorb, Polyphepan, Enterosgel, etc.).

    Interaction with other drugs

    When applying Ichthyol ointment in combination with other topical and external preparations containing iodine, salts of heavy metals and alkaloids, chemical compounds may be formed that will have an unpredictable effect. Therefore, Ichthyol ointment should not be used simultaneously with other topical and topical preparations.

    Ichthyol ointment and suppositories are compatible with any oral or injectable preparations and can be used without restrictions.

    Ichthyol ointment during pregnancy

    The official instructions indicate that the safety of using Ichthyol ointment during pregnancy has not been studied. However, more than one generation of pregnant women used this ointment, and gynecologists who observed their condition did not reveal any negative effect of the drug on the course of pregnancy and fetal development. Therefore, obstetrician-gynecologists, especially experienced ones, believe that Ichthyol ointment is safe for pregnant women and nursing mothers.

    For nursing mothers, there are no restrictions on the use of Ichthyol ointment. The only additional condition is to ensure that the drug does not get on the nipples of the mammary glands. If the ointment accidentally gets on the nipples of the breasts, then they should be thoroughly washed with warm water and soap.

    Ichthyol ointment for acne

    Ichthyol ointment has a keratoplastic effect, which is as follows:

    • inflammation stops;
    • infiltrates in the skin are softened;
    • tissues are dried by eliminating edema and reducing fluid secretion;
    • the processes of decay of dead tissues are prevented;
    • accelerates wound healing and the formation of normal skin.
    This keratoplastic action is very effective in the treatment of acne, especially deep, so-called "subcutaneous", which often become inflamed and do not come to the surface for a long time, from where they can be removed mechanically (squeezed out).

    Applying Ichthyol ointment pointwise to acne leads to the fact that pus very quickly collects in one pore, forming a characteristic white dot ("head") on the surface of the skin. With continued treatment of the pimple with Ichthyol ointment, the thin skin over the "head" is successfully torn, the pus comes out, and the wound heals very quickly and without complications.

    Ichthyol ointment very quickly leads to the localization and emergence of deep subcutaneous acne, which can exist for a very long time, periodically becoming inflamed and causing severe pain (in addition to an aesthetic defect). Bringing such pimples to the surface makes it possible to remove them.

    So, for the treatment of acne, Ichthyol ointment should be used pointwise. That is, it should be applied in a thin layer directly on the pimple and left for 1 to 2 hours. During this time, pus will collect on the surface, break through the skin and come out. After this time, the ointment must be washed off and the wound disinfected with Chlorhexidine or hydrogen peroxide.

    If in 2 hours the pus has not come out, then it is recommended to apply a thin layer of ointment on the pimple in the evening, put a gauze or cotton pad on top, fix it with adhesive tape and leave the bandage on all night. In the morning, the pus will come out, and then the wound is washed with Chlorhexidine or hydrogen peroxide.

    If the pus did not come out of the pimple even after applying Ichthyol ointment for the night, then it is recommended to treat a thin needle in alcohol or salicylic acid, gently pierce the “head” that appears and squeeze out the pus with your fingers. It is recommended to resort to such piercing of the "head" of the pimple only in extreme cases, it is better to avoid this technique, but simply continue to apply Ichthyol ointment to the pimple until it breaks through on its own and the pus comes out.

    Ichthyol ointment for blackheads

    Since black dots are nothing more than a banal accumulation of sebum in the pores, Ichthyol ointment is able to effectively remove them due to the keratoplastic action. The fact is that the ointment simply dissolves the sebum accumulated in the pores, makes it liquid, as a result of which it flows out, the pores are freed and, accordingly, black dots disappear.

    To remove black dots, Ichthyol ointment is recommended to be applied pointwise to problematic pores. However, the ointment can also be applied to the skin of the nose in a continuous layer if there are a lot of black dots on it. The ointment, distributed in a thin layer, is left for 1-2 hours, after which it is removed with a cotton pad and the skin is additionally washed with warm water and a mild cleanser.

    Ichthyol ointment to remove blackheads can be used as needed.

    Ichthyol ointment for wounds

    Ichthyol ointment accelerates the healing of various wounds, and also stops the inflammatory process and eliminates infection. Due to these properties, the ointment simultaneously disinfects and accelerates healing, so it is not only possible, but it should also be used to treat any wound surfaces. Ichthyol ointment replaces at least two external agents - an antiseptic (for example, Chlorhexidine) and a drug that accelerates tissue repair (for example, Solcoseryl).

    For the treatment of wounds, the ointment should be applied in a thin layer to the affected area, without rubbing, and cover it with a gauze napkin from above. The napkin, if necessary, is fixed with a bandage or plaster. The ointment is replaced with a new one every 8 to 10 hours. Treatment is continued until complete healing of the wound.

    Ichthyol ointment for abscesses and boils, to remove pus

    Ichthyol ointment, due to its keratoplastic action, “pulls out” the pus well and contributes to its outflow. And since an abscess and a boil, in fact, are a purulent inflammation of any area of the skin, to cure which it is necessary to remove pus and clean the tissues, Ichthyol ointment is an excellent tool for their therapy.

    That is, when applied to an abscess or boil, Ichthyol ointment will quickly lead to the organization of an abscess with the appearance of a clear purulent "head". If you continue to apply the ointment on an already formed abscess, then it will “break through” in a short time, and the pus will flow out, as a result of which an already clean wound will form, which will need to be washed with Chlorhexidine and again treated with Ichthyol ointment already to accelerate healing and prevent re-attachment of the infection and suppuration.

    On abscesses, boils and abscesses, Ichthyol ointment should be applied pointwise, in a thin layer, covered with gauze or a cotton pad on top, fixed with adhesive plaster and left for 8-10 hours. Change the bandage with ointment every 8 to 10 hours until the pus is drained and the wound is clean.

    Ichthyol ointment for hemorrhoids

    The ointment can be used during periods of exacerbation to relieve pain and inflammation, as well as to destroy pathogenic microbes that can complicate the disease by infection. In addition, Ichthyol ointment accelerates tissue healing.

    With hemorrhoids, Ichthyol ointment is recommended to lubricate the skin of the anus in the evening, before going to bed, for 10 to 14 days. In the morning, the remnants of the ointment are removed with a cotton swab or gauze, and the skin is washed with water. Before applying the ointment, the skin around the anus should also be washed with warm water and soap and dried with a soft cloth.

    Despite the fact that Ichthyol ointment will help relieve inflammation and pain in hemorrhoids, it will not be able to cure the disease. Therefore, the ointment can only be used as an emergency aid when it is not possible to immediately consult a doctor. But as soon as the opportunity arises, you should contact a specialist who will prescribe treatment to completely eliminate hemorrhoids. Ichthyol ointment can also be used in combination with other drugs prescribed by a doctor to quickly heal the tissues of the anus with hemorrhoids.

    Ichthyol ointment in gynecology

    In gynecological practice, Ichthyol ointment is used as part of the complex therapy of various infectious and inflammatory diseases of the internal genital organs in women, such as:
    bladder and large intestine of a woman. Since the ointment has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and analgesic effects, when it is used, inflammation and pain are stopped, and pathogenic microbes are destroyed, which leads to the complete elimination of the infectious and inflammatory process in the pelvic organs of a woman.

    Ichthyol ointment in the amount of 15 g (about a teaspoon) is applied to a cotton swab pre-moistened in a 10% solution of glycerin, which is inserted into the rectum or vagina 1-2 times a day. Before introducing a swab with ointment into the rectum, it is imperative to empty the intestines. If the bowel movement did not occur spontaneously, then an enema should be given.

    The course of treatment with tampons with Ichthyol ointment in gynecological practice is usually 10-14 days. If necessary, such courses of treatment are repeated, maintaining intervals between them lasting at least 2-3 weeks.

    Ichthyol ointment for ingrown hairs

    Ichthyol ointment can be an effective remedy for ingrown hairs, as it dissolves subcutaneous infiltrates, stops inflammation and softens the upper layer of the epidermis, so that the hairs can "break through" and come out of the thickness of the tissues. And when the hairs are not inside the skin tissues, but outside, they can be removed with tweezers. However, Ichthyol ointment is not a panacea and not a very effective remedy for eliminating ingrown hairs, so you can, of course, try to use the drug, but without expecting much from it.

    So, to eliminate ingrown hairs, Ichthyol ointment is best applied to problem areas of the skin the next day after shaving or epilation. The ointment is applied in a thin layer to the desired areas, covered with gauze napkins on top, fixed with a bandage or plaster and left overnight. In the morning, the gauze pad is removed along with the remnants of the ointment and the skin is washed well with warm water and soap, after which a regular nourishing cream is applied to it. Such a bandage with Ichthyol ointment is done daily until the tips of ingrown hairs appear on the surface of the skin, for which they can be hooked and removed with tweezers. Usually, in order for the ingrown hairs to break through the skin and come out, it is enough to apply the ointment 1 to 3 times.

    Contraindications for use

    Ichthyol ointment is contraindicated for use only if a person has increased individual sensitivity, an allergic reaction or intolerance to the components of the drug.

    Side effects

    As side effects, Ichthyol ointment can cause the following manifestations:

    • Allergic reaction (rash, hives);
    • Irritation of the skin, manifested by redness, itching and burning.
    With the development of an allergic reaction or very severe skin irritation, the remnants of Ichthyol ointment should be removed from the surface of the skin and stop using the drug.

    Analogues

    The following drugs are analogues of Ichthyol ointment by the nature of the therapeutic effect:

    • Vishnevsky ointment;
    • Levomekol;
    • Levometril;
    • Levosin;
    • Netran;
    • Salicylic-zinc paste with chloramphenicol.
