To easily insert a swab with ointment into the vagina, it is recommended to take the following position: lie on your back, bend your legs apart at the knees and lift your pelvis up. In this position, the entrance to the vagina will open as much as possible, as a result of which the tampon will easily enter inside, and the ointment from it will not be smeared on the skin of the perineum, but will get inside. For insertion, holding the pelvis in an elevated position, you should lean well on the shoulder blades, spread the labia apart with one hand, and gently push the tampon deep into the vagina with your finger with the other hand.
It is best to insert a tampon into the rectum from the knee-elbow position. In this case, it is first recommended to lubricate the skin of the anus with a 10% solution of glycerin, then strain the stomach, as if trying to poop, and quickly push the tampon with your finger into the rectum. Tension of the abdomen with an imitation of an attempt to poop leads to some relaxation of the anal ring, as a result of which the tampon passes more easily into the rectum.
Swabs with Ichthyol ointment are injected into the vagina or rectum 1-2 times a day for 10-14 days. If necessary, the course of treatment can be repeated, maintaining an interval of at least 2-3 weeks.
Precautionary measures

Ichthyol ointment in gynecology
In gynecological practice, Ichthyol ointment is used as part of the complex therapy of various infectious and inflammatory diseases of the internal genital organs in women, such as:
bladder and large intestine of a woman. Since the ointment has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and analgesic effects, when it is used, inflammation and pain are stopped, and pathogenic microbes are destroyed, which leads to the complete elimination of the infectious and inflammatory process in the pelvic organs of a woman.
Ichthyol ointment in the amount of 15 g (about a teaspoon) is applied to a cotton swab pre-moistened in a 10% solution of glycerin, which is inserted into the rectum or vagina 1-2 times a day. Before introducing a swab with ointment into the rectum, it is imperative to empty the intestines. If the bowel movement did not occur spontaneously, then an enema should be given.
The course of treatment with tampons with Ichthyol ointment in gynecological practice is usually 10-14 days. If necessary, such courses of treatment are repeated, maintaining intervals between them lasting at least 2-3 weeks.
Ichthyol ointment for ingrown hairs
Ichthyol ointment can be an effective remedy for ingrown hairs, as it dissolves subcutaneous infiltrates, stops inflammation and softens the upper layer of the epidermis, so that the hairs can "break through" and come out of the thickness of the tissues. And when the hairs are not inside the skin tissues, but outside, they can be removed with tweezers. However, Ichthyol ointment is not a panacea and not a very effective remedy for eliminating ingrown hairs, so you can, of course, try to use the drug, but without expecting much from it.
So, to eliminate ingrown hairs, Ichthyol ointment is best applied to problem areas of the skin the next day after shaving or epilation. The ointment is applied in a thin layer to the desired areas, covered with gauze napkins on top, fixed with a bandage or plaster and left overnight. In the morning, the gauze pad is removed along with the remnants of the ointment and the skin is washed well with warm water and soap, after which a regular nourishing cream is applied to it. Such a bandage with Ichthyol ointment is done daily until the tips of ingrown hairs appear on the surface of the skin, for which they can be hooked and removed with tweezers. Usually, in order for the ingrown hairs to break through the skin and come out, it is enough to apply the ointment 1 to 3 times.
Contraindications for use
Ichthyol ointment is contraindicated for use only if a person has increased individual sensitivity, an allergic reaction or intolerance to the components of the drug.
Side effects
As side effects, Ichthyol ointment can cause the following manifestations:
