Tatars are a numerous people who have played a significant role in history. Together with the warlike Mongols, they conquered half of the world and kept the other at bay. Today their descendants have spread throughout the globe while maintaining their customs. One of the oldest traditions of the people is to give beautiful Tatar names to newborns. Boys are called, as a rule, so that the name reflects the person, his character, inclinations. Sometimes these are wishes of good luck, firmness, well-being, and in another case, the names are protection from evil forces.

According to their names, modern boys are divided into the following types:

Often the Tatar names of boys come from Arabic words, as they were borrowed along with Islam. Today, the modern is often combined with the traditional surname of Turkic-Perso-Arabic origin. This is due to the fact that Western culture is penetrating further and further to the East, making its own adjustments to the local mentality. Previously, the traditional names of this people were created from the words of the Turkic, Persian and Arabic languages. The stress is usually placed on the last syllable.

Tatar names boys, as well as personal names among other peoples, transformed over time, borrowed from neighbors, composed by folding several words with different origins. An example would be the names of Gaynutdin, Abdeljabar, Mintimer, Saijafar.

In the twentieth century, a new trend appeared in the world - to baptize children with old names or those that were obtained from ancient ones. Added letters for better sound. This is how the names Raf, Ravil, Rem, Ramil, Rome and complex ones appeared, created by merging the usual name and ending "ulla", "Allah". After the revolution of the seventeenth year, the names Karl, Marcel appeared in the everyday life of the Tatars, but they cannot be considered national. Often parents choose Tatar boy names because of their good sounding and beautiful meaning. But one should take into account the fact that the meaning of not every name can be known reliably. Sometimes creative personalities call the baby a unique word invented on their own.

Since ancient times, people have believed that a name is not just a word that allows you to identify a person among others. It conveyed to its owner some of the properties that were necessary for a full-fledged member of society. Therefore, the guys were called "courageous", "strong", "defender", "brave" and "solid", and the girls were given gentle names of flowers and plants, stars, wished them beauty and many children.

Tatar boy names are more popular today than ever. After all, every nation strives to restore its roots, its identity, to restore the lost connection with previous generations. And the name is just the first step towards the restoration of patriotic consciousness.

Names of Tatar origin are distinguished by their peculiar beauty and symbolism. These are names from ancient history, and in both boys and girls, they are closely related to events and prominent personalities in the fate of the Tatar people. All these names have one thing in common - they are Tatar in origin. Today we will talk about how to choose the right name for a boy, look at the Tatar names of boys and their meanings, as well as the origin of this or that Tatar name. Modern language, called Tatar, belongs to the Turkic group of languages, and some names in it are borrowed from related languages that also belong to this group, in addition, borrowings from Arabic and European dialects are tracked.

Tatar names, among other things, often originate simply from beautiful combinations of sounds and words.

The Tatar name for a boy and his choice is a responsible and very important step in everyone's life young man this nation. Many believe that this choice will determine future destiny little man, his failures and successes. Therefore, when choosing a name, one must take into account the nature and inclinations of the child, which in early age can be very difficult. Modern names are often meaningless, unlike the old names, the meaning of which was hidden in every syllable.

The Tatar names, characteristic of the boys of this nation, have roots in the old Turkic names, to which beautiful sounds are added for euphony, for example, Ramil, Ravil or Rem.
The name should be easy to remember and sound good, without causing negative analogies, so that his friends, and the boy himself, treat the name with respect and have no reason for ridicule. “Mistakes” when choosing a name, because of which the child is teased and called names, many children cannot forgive their parents until the end of their lives, respectively, the choice should be taken extremely responsibly.

Tatar boy names have a special appeal, which includes a certain amount of aggressiveness, which should emphasize the courage and strength of the owner of the name. Whatever the name, it personifies the future fate and character of the boy.
Tatar names rarely have a single meaning, their meaning can have several subtexts and shades. When choosing and thinking about the future name, you should, if possible, take into account all of them.

Tatar names are often referred to as Muslim, but, despite the relationship, it is the Tatar names that are endemic and common only among the Tatar people. Muslim names are relatively new, and many Tatar names, as well as Arabic ones, belong to an earlier, before the Muslim era.

Let's see the most common and popular Tatar boy names - in the list below, you can find the semantic meaning of each Tatar name, which will help you name your baby most successfully.

As you can see, the list of Tatar names is quite impressive, but you have to choose the only name that best suits your child.

If you do not find in this catalog what you are interested in Tatar name exactly by spelling, then look consonant with it, since most likely they have the same origin, for example: Walid = Vyalit, Gulsum = Gulsum, Jafar = Zhafar.
old Tatar names often consist of words from Persian, Arabic, Turkic languages, later Tatar names- derived from them or consist of the words of the Iranian, Tatar and other modern, Aro-Asiatic, but mainly Turkic peoples neighboring the Tatars or are composed of several words of different origin, or from several words or names (Musagitdin, Mintimer, Saijafar, Gaynutdin, Abdeljabar).
The most "young" Tatar names, which arose in the 20th century, are often modified old names, in which either more beautiful-sounding letters are added or the name is abbreviated: (Franis, Rimma, Marat, Raf, Rabis) or borrowed from European peoples (Albert, Hans, Marseille, Rudolph, Ferdinand, Eduard).
Often, Tatars, due to their developed creativity, themselves invented and invent Tatar names to their children from beautiful words or phrases of Persian, Arabic, Turkic, Iranian, Bulgar, Tatar languages.
It is impossible to find out exactly the origin of many names, so we recommend that those who are faced with choosing a name for a child - choose a beautiful sounding name for him from the presented Tatar names, or you can come up with it yourself, just keep in mind that the more original the name of the child is, the more it will "cut the ear" of others and in the future can cause unpleasant moments for a person.

Tatar nationality, in general, is very rich in names. In terms of quantity and variety, there will be about 25 thousand of them (one of the first places in the world). The origin of the names is associated with various religious, economic, historical and cultural processes that Tatarstan has gone through during its existence.

Here are some of their varieties

Turkic names- having Turkic roots. They belong to the pagan era. This is the 1st-10th century. In the semantic content of the female names of that time, belonging to various types activities of a particular kind social status in society or certain traits of character. Eg:

  • Altynbike (golden princess).

But, since ancient times, the Turkic tribes had a belief that to take someone else's name means to take someone else's fate. Therefore, they never called children the same as they called relatives or acquaintances who had an unfortunate fate, or had health problems, or they disgraced their family during their lifetime.

Arabic and Persian. They appear in the tenth century, after the adoption of Islam:

  • Farida (the only one);
  • Galia (darling).

Since Islam originated in the Arab land, the Prophet Muhammad is an Arab, and the beloved younger wife of Muhammad was called Aisha (prosperous), Tatar women were often called this Arabic name. Slightly less popular were the following:

  • Khadija (the first wife of the Prophet);
  • Habiba (beloved, dear, wife of the Prophet);
  • Fatima (that was the name of the daughter of the Prophet);
  • Halima (name of the Prophet's nurse).

According to the translation, the Arabic names either coincided with the Muslim ones, or were very close to them in meaning.

In 1552, during the reign of Ivan the Terrible, after the conquest of Kazan by the Moscow princes, the forced baptism of the Tatars began. In Tataria then began to appear Orthodox names. But, due to the fact that for more than two hundred years it was not possible to introduce one hundred percent Christianity in the country, Empress Catherine II in 1788 allowed the opening of a Muslim spiritual administration in the city of Ufa, to which enormous power was transferred by the queen.

mullahs, in without fail located in every large and small settlement, received unlimited powers and were full masters over the illiterate population. Mulla accompanied a person throughout his earthly life, from birth to death. He named him, he also buried him. During this period, the introduction of Arabic characters began again.. Although, it should be noted that by that time the mullahs themselves practically did not know Arabic. Massively began to spread among girls, such names as:

  • Aishe (survivor);
  • Maryam (bitter);
  • Fatima (weaned);
  • Khadicha (premature), etc.

The inhabitants could not argue, and did not understand the meaning of most Arabic names. It happened that the mullah called almost the entire population in the same village the same way.

Often the ending "-ulla" was added to the word which means Allah in translation:

  • Zinatullah (the ornament of Allah);
  • Nurulla (light of Allah).

After the Great October Socialist Revolution of 1917, Tatarstan, like the rest of post-revolutionary Russia, was overwhelmed by a fashion trend that prompted some true adherents of communist ideas to give their daughters names-symbols glorifying that era. However, they did not violate the Tatar traditions here either:

  • Renata (revolution, science, labor, and also reborn);
  • Damira (long live the world, or - strong);
  • Leniz (Lenin's testament - artistic, inventive).

At the same time, such European and Slavic names became popular:

  • Rose (very beautiful);
  • Rimma (Roman);
  • Regina (queen);
  • Agnia (innocent).

There are also completely new ones:

  • Gulyara (decorated with flowers);
  • Alsu (beautiful);
  • Leysan ( Spring rain);
  • Zalika (who knows how to speak beautifully).

But sometimes the names Soviet power performed only the function of identifying a person and nothing more.

Where to get the Tatar beginning

Where to get the Tatar beginning? After all, even the Koran, according to which prayers are read, is written in Arabic.

Famous Tatar folk poet, Gabdulla Tukay, at the beginning of the 20th century wrote an article “On our names”, in which he lamented that the Tatars were brought up not in the spirit of the Tatar nation, but in the spirit of Arabic religion: "We can judge this at least by the names that we are given after birth." He supported the popular trend in society, which led the population to ensure that Tatar children were called Tatar names, the content of which would reveal the essence of a person, his national traits.

In today's reality, due to permanent shift religions for many centuries, the naming of a child among the Tatars occurs only according to the desire and worldview of the parents. According to the wishes of Gabdulla Tuk, national traditions are finally becoming relevant again. Naturally, many names have changed since ancient times, have become modern and easy to pronounce. But, nevertheless, among the popular Tatar female names there are many left, both Turkic and Persian, Arabic, Slavic and European. All of them have both beauty and euphony and bring positive energy to its owner. For example, how do you like such soft in pronunciation and pleasing to the ear:

  • Latifa (beautiful);
  • Valia (saint).

In many sources you can find a list of names that will be called Tatar. Although, the list will be full of Arabic, Persian, and European. According to statistics, at the moment, Tatars have names - 70% of Arab origin, 10% of Persian, 4% of Russian and Western, and only 16% of Tatar (Turkic) ones.

A girl was born in the family

What do parents invest in naming their daughter? Traditional Tatar names for girls mean either some significant events, express the identity of the family or mean worship of the gods. Girls are often called words associated with such phenomena and concepts as - water, flowers, names of birds:

And many call Tatar girls, linking them for life with heavenly bodies. Eg:

  • Chulpan (morning star, planet Venus).

A lot of female Tatar names begin with "Ai-", which means "moon" in translation:

  • Ainura (moonlight);
  • Aibike (moon lady).

The fantasy of the Tatar people is boundless. Girls are sometimes called even that way- a softening ending is added to the popular male name:

  • Ramil (magic);
  • Ravila (young).

Meet compound names, formed by combining two words, sometimes taken from different languages:

  • Zuhrabika (radiant);
  • Musavira (artist).

The Tatars have more than a hundred names that have at the beginning such a word as "Bibi-". This applies to very young girls or young and unmarried girls. It looks like this:

  • Bibikey (girl);
  • Bibidana (only daughter);
  • Bibinaz (affectionate girl);
  • Bibinur (radiant girl).

Some words, having an additional suffix "-ia", mean comparing his mistress with something:

  • Dulkynia - comparison with water;
  • Jihaniya is a comparison with the universe.

Old names for newborns are used to this day. After all, it sometimes sounds so sweet and melodious. In addition, each such name carries some well-known ancient history.

Amilya, Aliya, Amani, Anisa, Jamila, Farid, Karim - these names came from the peoples of the Arabian Peninsula.

Guzel, Dzhana, Azalea - remained from the Turkic times.

Yasmin, Fairuza - originally from Persia.

More complex names, made up of several that can still be found, are considered old and rare. They are more often present among very mature indigenous Tatar women. And the name of the Tatars is by no means accepted to shorten or modify. It is believed that this leads to imbalance and duplicity of its owner. By the way, with an incorrectly chosen name parents are quite allowed to choose another, more suitable for the child.

The Tatars also have another tradition inherent in them, they never repeat names in the same genus. For example, they do not name their daughter after their mother, grandmother, or great-grandmother.

According to statistics, among the Tatar female names more popular three years none of them were used. The only exception is Azalea.

And yet, here is a list that is most popular with Tatar parents:

The holiday of the appearance of the baby in Tatar families

The birth of a new person is always happy event, causing delight and festive mood among relatives. Of course, modern moms and dads want to name the baby fashionably and popularly. But, we must not forget that it is at this moment that the fate of the child is in their hands. The name given to your beloved child will play an important role in his life. After all, it contains a secret. It has long been known that the word is material. Tatars believe that any word is read in heaven. The name will go through life path along with the beneficiary. Tatars say: choosing a name, you choose your destiny. And also it is all long life will serve as a talisman and amulet. Therefore, before naming a newborn with a name you like, you need to understand what this word will mean.

The thoughtless assignment of a name to a child, the meaning of which the parents do not know, is not welcome in Tatar families. After all, such connivance threatens to affect the future not only of the betrothed, but of the whole family. This can be fully traced on the example of any family of the Tatar nation.

But, here is the name chosen. According to the Tatar custom, it is solemnly announced in the presence of a large number of invited guests on this occasion. The oldest and most respected relative, and often a local mullah, who knows how to beautifully pronounce a wish, is trusted to whisper the chosen name in the baby’s ear in their native Tatar (Turkic) language. This is followed by a rich feast, a fun holiday dedicated to naming.

Throughout the ceremony, the guests say the traditional words of wishing happiness, health, good luck, wealth, everything that they would like to give to the newborn. The holiday doesn't end there.
