The composition of the drug includes the active ingredient - xylometazoline - a medicinal substance with a pronounced vasoconstrictor effect. With local application of the drug, there is a narrowing of the lumen of the vessels of the nasal mucosa, as a result of which swelling and hyperemia of the mucous membrane decreases. The drug facilitates nasal breathing, reduces rhinorrhea, sneezing and irritation of the nasal mucosa.
Xymelin Eco also contains levomenthol, which complements and enhances the therapeutic effect of xylometazoline.

Indications for use
The drug is used to treat patients suffering from acute respiratory diseases of various etiologies, which are accompanied by rhinorrhea, edema and hyperemia of the nasal mucosa.
The drug is also prescribed as a symptomatic therapy for patients with acute allergic rhinitis, hay fever, sinusitis and eustachitis.
The drug can be prescribed in the complex therapy of otitis media.
The drug is used in the preparation of patients for diagnostic procedures, which are accompanied by manipulations in the nasal passages.

Mode of application
The drug is intended for intranasal use. Before using the spray, clean the nasal passages. The protective cap is removed from the bottle, the tip of the sprayer is carefully inserted into the nasal passage and, by pressing the spray nozzle, the nasal mucosa is irrigated. The drug is used alternately on each nasal passage. After using the drug, clean the spray nozzle and close the vial with a protective cap. The duration of the course of treatment and the dose of the drug is determined by the attending physician individually for each patient.
Children aged 2 to 6 years are usually prescribed 1 dose of Xymelin 0.05% in each nasal passage 1-2 times a day.
Children over the age of 6 years and adults are usually prescribed 1 dose of Xymelin 0.1% 1-2 times a day.
Do not use the drug more than 3 times a day.
The maximum duration of the course of treatment is 7 days, unless otherwise prescribed by the attending physician.

Side effects
The drug is usually well tolerated by patients, in some cases it was noted the development of dryness, burning and irritation of the nasal mucosa, as well as sneezing.
With prolonged use of high doses of the drug, the development of such side effects was noted:
From the side of the central nervous system: dizziness, headache, blurred vision, disturbed sleep and wakefulness, emotional lability.
From the side of the cardiovascular system: tachycardia, arrhythmia, arterial hypertension.
Others: angioedema, vomiting, rhinorrhea, epistaxis.

Contraindications
Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug.
The drug is not prescribed to patients suffering from diseases of the cardiovascular system, including arterial hypertension, arrhythmia, tachycardia and atherosclerosis.
The drug should not be prescribed to patients with glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, hyperthyroidism, as well as to patients who have undergone surgical interventions on the meninges (regardless of the duration of the operation).

In case of overdose, symptomatic therapy is indicated.

Storage conditions
The drug is recommended to be stored in a dry place away from direct sunlight at a temperature of 15 to 25 degrees Celsius.
The shelf life of Xymelin is 2 years. After the first use of the drug, the shelf life is 3 months.

Nazivin, Otrivin, Vibrocil, Xymelin, Tizin belong to the group of anticongestants - drugs that help eliminate swelling of the mucosa. They are prescribed for a cold that accompanies allergic diseases, infectious respiratory processes. United in the group of adrenomimetics - vasoconstrictor drugs. They are very similar to each other in terms of the mechanism of action, with slight differences. How are these medicines different?

Contains oxymetazoline in an aqueous solution as an active ingredient.

Produced in the form of drops with a pipette dispenser for young children in spray bottles. Concentration:

  • 0.01% for children under 1 year old.
  • 0.025% for children over 1 year old.
  • 0.05% - for patients older than 6 years and adults.

Pharmacodynamic properties

The main effect is realized through the effect on alpha2,1-adrenergic receptors, which contributes to:

  • Narrowing of the vessels of the mucosa at the site of application.
  • Resolution of edema.
  • Improves nasal breathing.

It does not have a pronounced systemic effect on the body, it is mainly characterized by a local reaction of the effect realization.

Indications

The main reason for the appointment of Nazivin is respiratory infections, manifested by nasal congestion, edema, or, conversely, abundant mucus secretion. The drug is prescribed for:

  • Acute runny nose, which arose against the background of a cold of any etiology.
  • Allergic, vasomotor rhinitis, hay fever.
  • Acute or exacerbation of chronic inflammatory processes in the sinuses (frontal, maxillary, main).
  • Acute inflammatory diseases of the middle ear, Eustachian tubes.
  • Performing diagnostic manipulations that require narrowing of the nasal vessels, reducing mucosal edema.

The drug has a mild and long-lasting (up to 12 hours) effect.

Nazivin is not assigned if:

  • There is an allergic reaction to the main substance of the drug.
  • We are talking about the treatment of atrophic rhinitis.
  • The patient suffers from angle-closure glaucoma.

Important! During pregnancy and lactation, it is possible to prescribe Nazivin after assessing all possible risks for the woman and child.

Side effects are more often caused by a violation of the duration, frequency of administration. Appear:

  • Burning, dryness of the nasal cavity.
  • A paradoxical reaction - increased edema while taking the drug.
  • Redness of the mucous membrane.
  • Headache, sleep disturbance, anxiety.
  • Palpitations, rhythm disturbances, hypertension.
  • Dyspeptic manifestations in the form of nausea and vomiting, respiratory failure.

The effectiveness of the drug decreases with prolonged use. If the use is exceeded for more than 7 days, atrophic changes in the nasal mucosa may develop, signs of an overdose may appear.

Otrivin

The main active ingredient is xylometazoline.

The line of products is represented by drops, nasal spray of various dosages, suitable for use in children from infancy and adult patients.

Pharmacodynamic properties

Like Nazivin, it refers to vasoconstrictor drugs that act in a stimulating way on adrenoreceptors. According to the mechanism of action, it has similar characteristics with Nazivin. A distinctive feature of Otrivin is the content of menthol, eucalyptus essential oil, which has an additional effect of cooling the mucous membranes.

It is not absorbed into the general circulation, the systemic effect on the body is minimal.

Indications

The use of Otrivin is indicated for:

  • Acute respiratory infections accompanied by rhinitis.
  • Vasomotor rhinitis and rhinitis with an allergic component.
  • Inflammatory diseases of the middle ear.
  • Planning of diagnostic manipulations on ENT organs.

The therapeutic effect develops within a few minutes after instillation of the nasal cavity and lasts up to 12 hours.

Contraindications, special instructions

The development of side effects, the use of Otrivin during pregnancy, lactation are the same as for other drugs of the adrenergic agonist group. The list of contraindications is identical to Nazivin.

Important: Nazivin and Otrivin are two drugs similar in mechanism of action, presented in the pharmacy network with a wide variety of dosages that have common indications and side effects. They differ in the active substance belonging to the same group of compounds, the composition of excipients. When choosing a drug: Nazivin or Otrivin, you should be guided by the doctor's recommendations.

Xymelin

Another representative of the group of drugs with adrenomimetic action. The main component is xylometazoline.

Xymelin is similar in pharmacodynamics, indications, side effects to other drugs in its pharmaceutical group.

Distinctive features

The main distinguishing features of Xymelin are:

  • The line of products is represented by various forms of release: drops, sprays, including Xymelin Eco, containing menthol, Extra, which is a combination drug containing an anticholinergic component that suppresses mucus production.
  • Not intended for children under two years of age.
  • It is not recommended for use during pregnancy, lactation, especially the Eco and Forte forms.
  • In addition to the already known adverse reactions, prolonged use can provoke nosebleeds.

Before using Xymelin, you should consult your doctor.

Tizin

This is a drug of similar action as the others we have discussed above. A distinctive feature is the active substance - tetrahydrozoline salt. The same indications are established for it, it has the same therapeutic and side effects as other drugs from the group of vasoconstrictor drugs.

Tizin's features are:

  • It has a more pronounced vasoconstrictor effect than Otrivin or Nazivin.
  • It acts quickly enough, the effect appears within 1-2 minutes after application, but lasts a shorter period - no more than 6 hours.
  • It is not recommended to prescribe during pregnancy, lactation.
  • Not intended for children under two years of age.

When choosing a drug: Tizin or Nazivin, one should be guided by the recommendations of the attending physician, taking into account the indications, the clinical picture of the disease.

Vibrocil

A drug that is fundamentally different from the others described above.

The main forms of release are:

  • Drops.
  • Gel for lubrication of the nasal mucosa.
  • Spray.

This is a combination drug consisting of the phenylephrine sympathomimetic, which acts selectively on the receptors of the venous vessels of the nasal mucosa and an antihistamine component.

Mechanism of action

Unlike other vasoconstrictor drugs, Vibrocil in the treatment of the common cold:

  • Quite quickly and effectively eliminates swelling of the mucous membrane.
  • Contributes to a significant reduction in the amount of secretion produced.
  • Restores the work of ciliated epithelium.
  • It has a pronounced anti-allergic effect.
  • It has proven itself well when used on the eve of surgical interventions on the ENT organs, in the postoperative period.

Has a local effect.

Indications

In addition to a runny nose that occurs against the background of colds, the appointment of Vibrocil is indicated for allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, hay fever.

Contraindications, application features

The drug is contraindicated in the presence of intolerance to one of the components that make up its composition, heart rhythm disturbances, rhinitis with atrophic changes in the mucosa.

Important. Vibrocil is not prescribed in the following cases:

  • Children under 1 year old.
  • Pregnant and lactating mothers.

In children, elderly, debilitated patients, signs of systemic influence may appear in the form of cardiac arrhythmias, hypertension, changes in neurological status, agitation, and sleep disturbances.

When comparing various drugs prescribed for the treatment of rhinitis, the question often arises as to which is better than Nazivin or Otrivin, or another drug. It should be understood that for each drug there are clearly defined indications, features of use. Only the attending physician, having assessed the clinical symptoms, can prescribe the "correct and best" drug.

One of the most popular vasoconstrictor drugs that helps get rid of nasal congestion is Xymelin. But it is not always possible to purchase it in pharmacies, which is why it becomes necessary to know about its analogues, which have the same effect on the nasal mucosa.

The action of the drug

Drops in the nose "Xymelin" have a vasoconstrictive effect. The main active ingredient in the drug, xylometazoline, causes constriction of blood vessels, which facilitates breathing, and also relieves swelling in the nasopharynx. Moreover, most patients note that the drug does not cause any discomfort even with its frequent use.

Time of action

Almost all otolaryngologists say that if they are chosen correctly, then they should act from the moment of application for at least eight hours. If the medicine is not suitable, then the time is reduced to almost two hours.

Drops in the nose "Xymelin" can relieve nasal congestion for 10 hours.

Pharmacokinetics

It is noted that a minimum of the active substance, which is part of the Xymelin preparation, enters the bloodstream. Analogues, which will be discussed a little later, also have all the above actions.

Indications for use

There are a number of indications when patients choose Xymelin. Analogues of the drug are also prescribed in the following cases:

  • Acute respiratory viral diseases, which are accompanied by a severe runny nose. Moreover, with acute respiratory infections, a runny nose appears immediately on the first day, breathing becomes difficult. And in order to somehow alleviate it, it is necessary to use vasoconstrictor drops.
  • Sinusitis, during which there is also swelling of the nasal mucosa, but the problem lies much deeper. For sinusitis, it is recommended to instill Xymelin, tilting your head up so that the drug enters the sinuses.
  • Otitis, during which, in order to alleviate the condition, it is necessary to remove the swelling in the nasopharyngeal mucosa.
  • Allergies, especially in the spring and summer, when it is necessary to ease breathing.
  • With eustachitis - inflammation of the mucous membrane of the ear canal and eardrum.

The drug is used not only to relieve the symptoms of various diseases. It is also used in preparation for examination with an endoscope.

"Xymelin": composition and form of release

The main active ingredient of the drug is xylometazoline, which has an alpha-adrenomimetic effect.

If we talk about the forms of release, then the drug can be purchased:

"Xymelin Extra"

Separately, it must be said about a stronger drug, such as Xymelin Extra, which has a more pronounced effect. After applying the drug, the effect is visible after three minutes and lasts for 8 hours.

Many people prefer to purchase Xymelin Extra. Its price is not much different.

How to apply

Not everyone, unfortunately, knows how to properly use vasoconstrictor drugs so that their effect is much longer.

First of all, it should be noted that before injection or instillation, it is necessary to rinse the nasal cavity with a saline solution, which will remove excess mucus, and the main active substance will act on the mucous membrane.

Also, if we talk about sprays, then in no case should you tilt your head, as the substance can flow into the throat, and the effect will be less.

Dosage

Xymelin can be used in both children and adults, which is why the dosages differ.

"Xymelin" for children in the form of a spray, which is prescribed at the age of two to six years, can be used once or twice a day, one injection.

The drug for adults is allowed to be used 3 times a day for no more than seven days, otherwise addiction may occur, in which you will need to use drops or spray daily.

Contraindications

Separately, it must be said about who is contraindicated in using Xymelin. Its composition prohibits the use of the drug for those people who have an individual intolerance to the main active substance.

Other contraindications include:

  • arterial hypertension;
  • tachycardia;
  • atherosclerosis;
  • atrophic rhinitis;
  • children's age up to two years.

Use during pregnancy

Separately, it must be said about the use of the drug during pregnancy. "Xymelin", analogues of this drug are strictly prohibited for use during pregnancy, since some of them are absorbed into the blood, which can cause narrowing of the arteries and veins through which nutrients and oxygen are supplied to the child.

Drug for children

"Xymelin" for children is allowed to be used only for those children whose age is older than two years. For younger children, there are other, less powerful drugs that are not able to have a negative effect on the body.

"Xymelin" for children has the same effect on the mucous membrane as in adults, namely, it significantly narrows the vessels in the nasal cavity, which eliminates swelling and improves breathing.

Use in children

"Xymelin" for children should be used as follows.

  • drops of 0.05 percent - one or two drops in each nasal passage once or twice a day;
  • drops of 0.1 percent - two or three drops in each nasal passage once or twice a day;
  • spray 0.05 percent - one injection into each nasal passage once or twice a day;
  • spray 0.1 percent - one spray in each nasal passage once or twice a day.

special instructions

The drug does not have any effect on the ability to drive a vehicle, which is why it is allowed to be used by all drivers.

It should be remembered that the drug should be used with caution for those people who suffer from diabetes, angina, prostatic hyperplasia.

In addition, it is forbidden to use Xymelin for more than seven days, as it is addictive, which is very difficult to get rid of.

Medicine price

Many patients are interested in the question of how much Xymelin costs, because today there are many analogues that cost much less.

If we talk about the drug itself, then its cost, depending on the pharmacy where it is purchased, varies from 150 to 200 rubles. Moreover, this price is considered quite high.

"Xymelin": analogues

Separately, it must be said about the analogues of the drug, since they do not differ in any way in terms of the principle of action and have the same vasoconstrictor effect. Their main difference is only in price. As a rule, analogues are cheaper.

Approximately 180 rubles (average price) must be paid for Xymelin. Analogues are much cheaper, from 80 to 140 rubles.

The most famous analogues include "Rinonorm" (the price of which is about 80 rubles), "Tizin" (the price of which is about 100 rubles), "Dlyanos" (the price of which is from 80 rubles).

What can replace "Xymelin"

It has already been said about the analogues of the drug, but most people prefer to buy either Tizin or Dlyanos, since they are most often found in pharmacies, and the price difference is about 70 rubles. In addition, they are available both in the form of drops and in the form of a spray. Moreover, drugs for children and adults differ. What can not be said about the tool "Rinonorm".

Finding good vasoconstrictor drops to help is quite difficult. But here "Xymelin" and its analogues are suitable for many.
