Complaints about cold feet of a doctor are not surprising, according to statistics, this problem occurs in a significant number of women aged 15 to 45 years. Interestingly, the stronger sex encounters this scourge twice as rarely as the weaker one. And the symptoms in men appear much later, after fifty years.

So what happens to the blood supply, why do the legs start to freeze? Doctors believe that cold feet annoy the owner due to spasms in the capillaries. When a spasm occurs, the blood stops the normal movement along the periphery of the circulatory system of the lower extremities and stagnation begins, as a result, the legs begin to freeze. If, in addition, frequent and severe hypothermia is allowed, a sharp exacerbation of the disease is possible.

Treatment

Medicine cannot yet give an exact answer to the question of why some people have constantly cold feet, and if so, they usually treat the symptoms, and not the disease itself. The main symptom is legs that are constantly getting cold, on which the skin changes its natural color first to pale, then it can take on a bluish tint, sometimes a person feels. In addition, complaints of tingling or throbbing are possible. risk of deterioration. A few simple rules will save you from getting to know the hospital walls.

First, your clothing must be appropriate for the weather. Even if you run out for two minutes, but it's cold outside, be sure to dress warmly. Pay special attention to the protection of the arms, legs and head. Shoes should be spacious, it is desirable that they be with an air “laying”, then coming from the street, you will be much less likely to warm up frozen or just cold feet.

Secondly, the temperature in your home should in no case be below the limit at which you will feel normal if after twenty degrees you are cold - try not to let the thermometer drop below this critical mark for you. Feel free to wear warm pajamas when you go to bed.

Third, if you smoke, quit. Smoking greatly constricts blood vessels and often causes severe capillary spasm.

Fourth, take only a warm shower, cold water is contraindicated for you, as it can trigger the mechanism of vascular blockage.

Fifth, if you have cold feet, do special exercises. Yoga recommends that anyone who has a problem with the cooling of the limbs do this exercise: sitting on the floor, stretch your legs forward, bring your feet together. As you inhale, stretch forward trying not to bend your back, pull your arms, then lower them, sliding your palms along your legs towards your feet. Leaning forward and keeping your back straight, try to touch your hips with your stomach. Grasp your feet with your hands or put them on top of your shins, do not bend your knees. It is necessary to stay in this position for about 30 seconds, gradually the exercise time can be increased.

Sixthly, check the level of hemoglobin in the blood, it is not necessary that it is because of the low content of this substance that it can be completely different for you, but it is simply necessary to make sure that it is not about hemoglobin. Pomegranate juice remarkably increases hemoglobin, and products containing iron are also suitable to improve this indicator.

Traditional medicine can also offer several recipes for cold feet.

Here are some of them:

  • For one bottle of vodka, you need to take a couple of finely chopped hot peppers, add a tablespoon of salt and mustard powder. Pour all this into a bottle of vodka and leave to infuse until the vodka turns red. Gently rub your feet with the resulting tincture before going to bed. When the liquid is absorbed, put on woolen socks and go to bed.
  • Another wonderful remedy for expanding blood vessels is a bowl of hot water with pepper tincture from the first paragraph. For five liters of water, add about 50 ml of pepper. You can also add a large spoonful of cinnamon and a little clove oil there. After holding your feet for about 20 minutes in a basin with such a solution, go to bed, now your feet are guaranteed to be warm all night.

In autumn it becomes more and more difficult to keep warm, you just want not to go outside, where the cold wind, rain and the first frosts. The hands and feet suffer the most from the piercing wind - they are the ones that are prone to hypothermia. But often the feet cannot get warm even at home, in warmth. And for some people, they freeze even in the heat - and these people do not part with knitted socks in the summer.

Why do feet get cold when there is no reason for it? Today we will talk about this common problem, its causes and solutions. You will also learn whether it is worth worrying if your feet remain icy even in a warm apartment.

Cold feet: causes and what to do

Why feet are cold: looking for a reason

If your feet get cold not only in severe winter frosts, but even in the heat, this is an occasion to pay attention to your health. This is not just about discomfort, but about possible problems in the body. Why are feet cold? What reasons can lead to this?

So, icy limbs are often the result of:

  • low hemoglobin- we are talking about anemia, a lack of red blood cells that carry oxygen and nutrients throughout the body, as soon as the hemoglobin level drops, the first sign of this will be cold feet;
  • lack of nutrients- as a result of a lack of vitamins and minerals, blood cannot fully circulate throughout the body, and if you are on a diet, this is a serious reason to stop it and switch to a normal diet;
  • problems with the cardiovascular system or thyroid gland;
  • chronic stress;
  • smoking- it causes vasospasm.

Also, the legs can freeze in those people who have already suffered frostbite of the limbs. The consequences of severe hypothermia persist for life - and you can only come to terms with it.

Cold feet and those who have meteorological dependence. And this is just a signal that you just need to dress warmer.

Why feet are cold and how to get rid of this problem

So, we have already figured out why the legs are cold - now it is important to understand what needs to be done to solve the problem.

Of course, you need to go to a doctor who will help diagnose the problem and take measures to treat it.

But on your own, you must do the following:

1. If you are a heavy smoker, then this is another reason to quit the habit. Smoking has a bad effect on blood vessels and the work of the heart, which leads to impaired blood circulation.

2. Always dress for the weather - choose warm shoes and clothes, do not freeze. Do not sacrifice your health for the sake of fashion, which often has nothing to do with common sense.

3. Exercise- this is the best prevention of diseases, congestion in the limbs, the ability to deal with stress and its consequences.

4. Take a foot bath in the evening and accept cold and hot shower. It will help maintain vascular health.

5. Massage your feet and lower extremities, use massage creams that stimulate blood circulation.

6. Boost the body's immune forces- Eat more vegetables and fruits, take multivitamin complexes.

7. Include in the diet foods that "disperse" the blood- garlic, ginger, pepper. Of course, for this you should not have contraindications.

Also, keep an eye on your emotional state. Stress has a bad effect on the cardiovascular system, which leads to disturbances in its work and, as a result, to icy lower limbs.

Any "freezing" of the legs indicates impaired blood circulation.

Prevention or What to do so that the feet do not freeze

If one of your loved ones has constantly cold feet, even in the heat, then you have a risk of “acquiring” a similar problem. To prevent it, take up prevention - especially since there is nothing complicated about it.

Unlike treatment, preventive measures do not require special financial costs. They are more associated with attention to their health, care for the comfort of the legs.

First of all, you need to monitor the health of the cardiovascular system. It is problems with it that provoke a violation of circulation and, as a result, icy limbs that have to be wrapped in woolen socks even in summer.

Also among the preventive measures we would name the following:

  • sports- walk more and move to prevent congestion in the limbs;
  • do not sit with your legs crossed;
  • get up more often during sedentary work, walk around the office, do a short workout at lunchtime;
  • massage your lower limbs especially the feet.

Once you notice that your feet are cold even when in a warm room, do not ignore the problem. It is important to immediately determine the source of the problem and see a doctor for treatment. This way you will prevent more serious health problems.

It is important to carefully choose shoes so that they do not squeeze the foot. The same applies to the desire to wear tightly laced shoes or high-heeled shoes. Too tight-fitting shoes as casual shoes are definitely not suitable.

Why do feet get cold and should I worry about it? Yes, the problem causes some discomfort. But besides this, it can be the very “first bell” that speaks of serious diseases.

So, cold extremities are a sign of impaired blood circulation. So, there are problems with the vessels and the work of the heart. Therefore, it is worth consulting a doctor in any case.

And don't forget to wear comfortable shoes that do not squeeze the foot. Quit smoking, move more, do foot massage, use warming creams, add vitamin complexes to your diet. If you have a sedentary job, periodically stretch your limbs, do not sit with your legs crossed.estet-portal.com

  • Hormonal disorders. They can occur due to problematic thyroid function. Symptoms may include tearfulness, decreased mood, and unusual heartbeat.
  • Worm infestation. In this case, coldness in the legs will be combined with the same problems throughout the body. This is due to the fact that the worms secrete poisons to which the body reacts.
  • Medications. If a woman is taking medication and has experienced this problem, it is best to consult a doctor about possible side effects.

Also, cold feet syndrome can be caused by other causes and more rare diseases.

It is not forbidden to try to find out the reasons yourself. To do this, you need to carefully study the existing symptoms, as well as get a general idea of \u200b\u200bhow exactly the human body works.

general information

All processes in the body are controlled by the nervous and endocrine systems. The temperature is maintained by the digestion of the food received. The human body can be thought of as a heat engine, where digested food serves as fuel.

At the same time, malnutrition can also cause cold feet. For example, in the event that an insufficient amount of vitamin C enters the body with food.

However, not all people feel comfortable. Some believe that this is an individual feature of the body. The judgment is not entirely correct. It is more correct to say that the nervous or endocrine systems do not fully do their job.

Even normally, the blood flowing to the extremities loses a small amount of heat, while the circulation of the extremities itself is less intense compared to what happens in the central part of the body.

If you are healthy but sick

Even in a healthy person, heels can freeze for many different reasons.

In addition to the already mentioned shoes, it can be hypothermia. And it doesn't have to be bad weather. Enough low-quality shoes that let a large amount of cold air to the feet. A hot bath usually fixes the problem.

Past injuries can also play. Moreover, the consequences of some do not appear immediately, but with age. If there was some kind of trauma in the life of a person who suffers from the described ailment, it is recommended to visit a doctor and make sure that it did not manifest itself in this way.

Note that the feet have the potential to withstand much lower temperatures than the rest of the body.

Evolutionarily, they are adapted to cover long distances, including on cold ground.

Therefore, constant problems with maintaining the temperature of the extremities can serve as an extremely undesirable symptom.

When was the disease noticed?

Before determining why the feet are cold even at home, try to remember when the symptom was first noticed and where is it most often manifested? If you are outside in cold weather, the problem is most likely in your shoes.

Even if the chosen shoes are really very beautiful, but uncomfortable and tight, it is better to refuse them. Otherwise, even knowing the answer to the question of why your feet are cold even at home, you will not be able to eliminate the cause.

You can also buy shoes of the same style, but larger. In it, the legs will be comfortable, they will not be squeezed.

Nature of work

When asked why the legs are cold, the answer can be given by the nature of the woman's work. With sedentary or sedentary work, blood also stops flowing to the legs over time, and therefore blood circulation is disturbed.

If the answer to the question of why the heels are constantly cold is sedentary work, eliminating the cause is quite easy. It is necessary to stretch your legs periodically.

You can also periodically massage them or otherwise stimulate blood circulation.

Practice shows that cold extremities in this case become warmer. Treatment is especially effective in the early stages of the onset of the disease.

In youth

Most often, one leg is colder than the other in girls aged 15 to 45 years. This is due to age-related changes, hormonal changes in the body, as well as social reasons.

Women at this age want to look beautiful, not practical. In addition, thermal insulation properties at this age are much less important than aesthetic ones. This can cause cold extremities not only in winter, but also in summer.

At maturity

In older age, hormonal changes can also appear, but apart from them, lifestyle is important. Alcohol, smoking, an unhealthy lifestyle are harmful factors and can lead to a worsening of the situation.

However, problems with heat transfer also begin if all recommendations regarding a healthy lifestyle are followed. This is explained more simply: the body wears out, and the hormonal background that regulates all work changes again.

Another problem is the deterioration with age in the amount of subcutaneous fat. Despite the fact that at a young age, many girls would be happy with this feature, in adulthood it plays a negative role.

It is subcutaneous fat that plays an important role in maintaining body heat.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that the immune system starts to work worse, which allows various infections to enter the body, which can cause feelings of cold and chills.

In older women, capillaries and blood circulation in general begin to work worse. First of all, the tips of the fingers of the limbs begin to suffer from this, and then all of them at once.

But despite this, even in adulthood, you should not neglect the care of blood vessels and their training. This will help improve heat transfer.

If the legs are cold in the summer in adulthood and the woman leads an unhealthy lifestyle, it is recommended to change it and then it is possible that the condition will change.

Folk remedies

What to do if cold extremities continue to disturb and nothing helps? It is recommended to try to use folk remedies. Prepare a special cream according to a time-tested recipe.

Combine 4 tablespoons of beeswax with 100 g of coconut and the same amount of olive oil. They should be melted in a water bath and brought to a homogeneous state.

Then pour into a jar, add pre-prepared vitamins E, cover with gauze and wait until the finished product has cooled.

Apply the resulting products to the limbs before going to bed. If everything is done correctly, the feeling of coldness in the legs should disappear.

Prevention

Whatever the answer to the question of why the legs get cold in each case, the best medicine and remedy to prevent the recurrence of the disease in the future.

So that cold limbs do not annoy in the future, it is recommended to perform physical exercises.

If the feeling of coldness in the legs began to appear only recently and is not caused by biological damage to the body, exercise may well be an effective means of prevention.

But in addition to physical activities, you should also learn some safety rules, non-observance of which can cause a feeling of cold feet in the future.

These rules include:

  1. Refuse from the "foot to foot" position. Or at least severely limit it. Although the causes of cold feet in women and the causes in men can vary greatly, this pose is harmful for all people.
  2. alternate physical activity on the limbs. Normally, the human body must experience high, but often changing loads. If you do not know exactly what it is, it is recommended to consult a trainer.
  3. After work raise your legs, lean against the wall and hold it for at least a while. Sometimes the answer to the question of why the legs are getting cold lies in the appearance, which should decrease. The more time you spend on your feet, the more beneficial this exercise is.
  4. Get moving as much as possible. Often, coldness in the legs of an elderly person occurs precisely because of the lack of movement. It is recommended to walk both at normal temperatures in summer and winter. However, in the latter case, use loose shoes for this.

If, in spite of everything, a woman's feet are very cold, it should be remembered: the main task is not to eliminate the symptoms, but to destroy the disease itself.

That is why, if none of the above helps and cold limbs continue to disturb, it is best to consult a doctor.

Diagnostics

A real diagnosis of the causes of frostbite in the legs can only be carried out by a doctor in a hospital using laboratory tests or instrumental methods.

If the type of tests depends mainly on the specific characteristics of the patient, then the instrumental methods are universal.

Most commonly used:

  1. Blood tests. The patient takes tests in accordance with the recommendations of the attending physician. Therefore, a previously passed analysis may be invalid due to the fact that the necessary indicators were not checked.
  2. leg vessels. The procedure is completely harmless and completely safe.
  3. ECG and related options.

Most often, the doctor asks to eliminate bad habits before taking tests, which can introduce inaccuracy in the result.

Treatment

If, despite all attempts to warm up, cold feet syndrome persists, it is recommended to think about the need for treatment. Visit the doctor and he will tell you why the limbs are cold.

After finding out the cause of why the hands are freezing, treatment will be prescribed, and perhaps an appropriate medicine will be prescribed.

Despite the fact that the causes and treatment can be very diverse, it is not recommended to self-medicate in cases where the doctor has made a serious diagnosis.

However, if discomfort appears only at night or at other times of the day and does not bring any special sensations, you can think about eliminating the disease yourself.

The first option is a contrast shower, which promotes blood dispersal. You can additionally make small ones specifically for the limbs. They must be in contrast.

The second option is walking barefoot. Do not neglect this, and if possible, order a special massage mat.

The third option is a daily foot massage. It is not only useful, but also pleasant. It can be done regardless of why the limbs are cold. Do not forget to rub your heels specially and soar them with mustard.

But, the most important thing is to try to avoid stress and give up a harmful lifestyle. Regardless of why your feet get cold in the heat in each case, a healthy lifestyle always helps.

Conclusion

It happens that hypothermia becomes the cause of constantly cold feet and it is eliminated by a hot bath.

This method should not be abused. Those functions of the body that are not used gradually atrophy.

As a result, it may be difficult for the body to warm itself and require even more hot baths.

Therefore, if the legs get cold too often, it is better to consult a doctor and make sure that there are no serious diseases.

Some people have cold feet regardless of the time of year. Nobody wants to leave cold marks, because it causes a lot of discomfort. Then people put on socks, insulate their feet as much as they can. This, of course, is correct, because no one wants to endure icy limbs. On the other hand, you should not wait for the weather by the sea - the situation is unlikely to improve by itself.

In this article, we will talk about all the reasons why the feet are constantly cold, as well as methods for treating this problem.

Causes of cold feet

Experts believe that the cause of constantly cooling legs is, first of all, problems with blood vessels. Often this can be the cause of a serious disease called atherosclerosis, which attacks the tissues of the arteries and turns them from elastic to brittle and hard.

Also, doctors do not exclude problems with blood circulation. Indeed, most often people experience difficulties precisely for this reason. But there are a number of other diseases and problems for which the feet are constantly cold:

Diseases of internal organs and systems. These, as we have said, include atherosclerosis. Maybe vegetovascular dystonia. This disease is accompanied by a rapid heartbeat, headache, forgetfulness, a constant desire to sleep and goosebumps before the eyes with sudden movements. Osteochondrosis, problems with the thyroid gland, cardiovascular system - all this can be the cause of cold feet.

It can also indicate problems with the liver. If there are disorders in this organ, the blood begins to circulate in a small circle, trying to optimize energy production, saving it. That is why there is a lack of active blood flow in the legs, which simply does not reach them in the required amount.

The thyroid gland is responsible for energy conservation. Therefore, any violations in the body can affect the condition of the legs. Often, the fair sex has cold feet due to hormonal imbalance.

Violation of metabolic processes.

Anemia, lack of iron and magnesium in the body. A low level of hemoglobin in a person leads to the fact that the body quickly loses heat, and this provokes cold feet. With anemia, people always have cold not only feet, but also hands.

Deficiency of vitamins and essential nutrients. Very often, cold feet are observed in women who are on a strict diet. This is too debilitating for the body. The absence or small amount of the necessary substances leads to a deterioration in tissue nutrition. This provokes circulatory disorders and adversely affects the operation of absolutely all systems. Therefore, it is important to observe the daily caloric intake and the balance of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Do not forget about useful vitamins.

Tight shoes. Wearing uncomfortable, rubbing shoes, synthetic tights, and socks can only worsen the problem of cold feet.

Weather. If it’s autumn or winter outside and your feet are cold, this can be absolutely normal. Wear the right shoes, socks, warm up properly so that problems do not arise. At home, it is also advisable to walk in slippers or socks.

Stress. Even negative events in life can trigger this problem. Therefore, it is important to deal with your mental state too.

Treatment for cold feet

Before proceeding with the treatment of constantly freezing feet, of course, you need to understand the cause of this phenomenon. Be sure to visit a doctor who will prescribe the necessary tests and examinations. As a rule, doctors prescribe an ultrasound examination of blood vessels, a cardiogram, tests for hemoglobin and hormones in the blood. This is the only way to understand what is wrong with your body and what makes the blood run cold in your legs.

In the meantime, you have not done this, take care of prevention, which we will be happy to tell you about. First, change your diet. It should be complete, correct, without harmful products. Include in your diet foods that can cleanse blood vessels, improve blood composition and heart function. Your menu should have enough meat, liver, vegetables and fruits.

Second, move more. Be sure to walk every day. It is better to forget about traveling by car, and replace public transport with walks. Walk at least one stop with your feet, don't be lazy. Include in your life daily exercises in the morning, massage the active points of the arms and legs to saturate them with blood.

Thirdly, give up tight and uncomfortable shoes and clothing in general. This in fact disrupts blood circulation and provokes a problem with cold feet. Your shoes should be strictly in size, no more and no less. Also know that a heel no more than four centimeters high is considered the most effective.

Fourth, forget about bad habits. Cold extremities are common in people who smoke.

Fifth, take hot foot baths to improve circulation. You can add a couple of drops of essential oil to have a cosmetic effect on your feet. A contrast shower also helps a lot. After such procedures, dry your feet thoroughly and apply a cream with a warming effect on them.

Sixth, do a foot massage. To do this, lubricate the foot with vegetable oil or a moisturizer and with strong movements first massage the right leg from all sides, moving up from the ankle to the knee. Then, tapping your fingers along the tibia, lower yourself down to the foot. Finish the massage with circular strokes of the knee. Do the same with the left leg.

These simple steps will help you deal with cold feet. But in any case, do not forget to visit your doctor, who will tell you how to proceed in your particular case.
