Effective drugs for the common cold. How to cure a runny nose. Medicines for the common cold Nasal drops with a therapeutic effect

A runny nose is an inflammatory process of the mucous membrane, in which sputum is actively released from the nasal cavity, and pus can form. Depending on the cause of the problem, various techniques and medications can be used to suppress it. Each of the drugs has its own characteristics and specific doses, compliance with which is necessary to obtain an adequate therapeutic result and prevent side effects.

Coryzalia

The tablets belong to the homeopathic class. The medication contains exclusively herbal components that specifically affect the entire respiratory system. Adult patients are recommended to take six Coryzalia tablets per day at equal intervals. Sometimes it is allowed to increase the number of tablets to 12 pieces. The medication should not be used for more than five days.

Cinnabsin

The drug copes well with inflammatory processes and stimulates the immune system. Cinnabsin should be used to facilitate nasal breathing, as well as to reduce swelling of the entire nasopharynx. The tablets contain echinacea and cinnabar. To suppress a runny nose, you should take no more than six tablets, which completely dissolve in the oral cavity. In severe cases, the amount of Cinnabsin is increased to 12 tablets, but only with the permission of the attending physician.

Rhinopront

The medication is a complex drug that has a strong vasoconstrictor effect and also relieves allergic swelling. A completely synthetic medicine that should be taken only on the recommendation of a therapist or ENT specialist, despite the fact that Rhinopront tablets can be bought without a prescription. As a therapeutic therapy, adult patients are prescribed two capsules of the active substance, which should be divided into morning and evening doses. The duration of therapy is in agreement with the attending physician.

Attention! These medications are aimed at suppressing the inflammatory process in the nasal cavity and respiratory organs, which allows combination therapy to eliminate all symptoms much faster.

Antihistamine drops against runny nose

Allergodil

The medication is used from four weeks to six months. For a severe runny nose, experts prescribe two drops into each sinus after thoroughly cleaning the cavity in the morning and evening. If the runny nose is not intense, it is enough to use one or two drops of Allergodil daily at any time of the day. The medication is also available in the form of a spray, and the doses for eliminating a runny nose are no different. The effect of using Allergodil drops occurs within 10-15 minutes. This medication cannot treat infections; it is only suitable for eliminating allergic rhinitis.

Levocabastine

The duration of therapy using Levocabastine for a particular patient can only be determined by the attending physician, who will also select the exact dosage. In the absence of contraindications and the spray is well tolerated, a regimen of one injection into each sinus up to four times a day is prescribed. Before each instillation, it is very important to clear the nasal passages of mucus as thoroughly as possible; this can be done using Aquamaris or Aqualora.

The medication belongs to eye drops, but can be used to eliminate allergic rhinitis. To do this, during an acute attack of a runny nose, instill 2 drops of the solution into each sinus twice a day. For mild cases of the disease, the dose can be halved. After a thorough examination and medical history, if there is an urgent need, drops can be used in the third trimester of pregnancy. Duration of therapy is four weeks.

When using antihistamine drops, the duration of therapy can be much longer than with vasoconstrictors, but only if the allergy occurs all year round. There are several important factors to consider:

  • It is imperative to confirm the exact diagnosis, otherwise you can provoke the development of a real allergy, but to the drops;
  • every month the selected medication must be changed to another with a similar effect;
  • when treating pregnant women, the selection of drops and dose are determined only by the doctor;
  • You should not combine drops and sprays with antiallergic tablets yourself, which can cause an overdose and side effects due to mixing of active substances;
  • All the drops described can also be used for allergic cyclic rhinitis; doses should not be changed unless there are problems with the kidneys and liver.

Attention! Sometimes taking these medications makes the condition worse, causing swelling and more mucus production. This effect is usually considered a side effect.

Vasoconstrictor drops for a runny nose

Rhinonorm

Refers to first generation vasoconstrictor drugs. It has a direct effect on the nasal mucosa, which suppresses the process of sputum discharge. Rinonorm has a relatively short effect, which is six hours. Adults are advised not to exceed the daily dosage of drops, which is two drops in each sinus up to three times a day. The duration of therapy with this medication cannot exceed five days.

Snoop

A distinctive feature of this drug is a unique combination of two active components, including a vasoconstrictor and sea water. Thanks to this composition, the nasopharynx rarely experiences a feeling of dryness and cracks on the wings of the nose. Patients are advised to inject one dose of Snoop into each nasal passage no more than three times a day. Therapy with this drug can last up to seven days, sometimes drops are used for up to 10 days.

Lazolvan Rino

The medicine is produced in the form of a spray, which shows the effect within five minutes after injection. Lazolvan Rino is used no more than twice a day, two to four doses in each nasal passage. The effect of the drug lasts for 10 hours. The duration of therapy usually does not exceed one week, after which the medication should be changed or treatment should be completed completely.

Grippostad Reno

Vasoconstrictor drops, which belong to the third generation. They can maintain their effectiveness for 6-8 hours with good tolerance. Grippostad Rino can be used up to three times a day, two drops after complete cleansing of the nasal cavity. Adult patients should use a solution with a concentration of 0.1% of the active substance. The duration of therapy is no more than five days.

Attention! The use of these drops cannot be long-term. In order not to provoke addiction and decrease the elasticity of the nasal mucosa and blood vessels, it is advisable to use vasoconstrictor drugs only before going to bed or no more than twice a day.

Medicines for inhalation for a runny nose

Derinat

The drug perfectly fights viral infections, including the runny nose and its symptoms that accompany this condition. For inhalation, you should take 2 ml of Derinat, which dissolve in the same amount of physical solution. The resulting solution should be poured into the nebulizer container and inhaled for 10 minutes, or until all the liquid has completely evaporated. Procedures are carried out 1-2 times a day for five days. It is advisable to carry out the last session four hours before going to bed, since after it mucus may begin to be actively released due to the cleansing of the respiratory tract.

Chlorophyllipt

For inhalation, you need to take an alcohol solution of eucalyptus, which must be dissolved in a physical solution in a ratio of 1 to 10. The resulting amount of the drug must be used in 3 ml for one session. It is recommended to carry out no more than two procedures per day. The duration of therapy using Chlorophyllipt is five days, sometimes you can extend treatment up to a week, but in the last two days use the medication only once in 24 hours.

Furacilin

Inhalations with this solution are quite unpleasant and can even provoke a gag reflex, which should be taken into account before the session. For treatment, it is necessary to use a ready-made solution of the drug in an amount of 4 ml. If Furacilin is poorly tolerated, it can be diluted in a ratio of 2 to 2. Inhalations with the drug are used up to three times a day. The duration of therapy is no more than five days.

Attention! It is advisable to carry out inhalations in combination therapy to significantly speed up the process of eliminating unpleasant symptoms.

Antibiotic drops for purulent runny nose

Tsipromed

This medication can completely replace the popular Isofra, but at the same time has half the cost and a minimum of side effects. The medication is used two drops up to six times a day at equal intervals. The exact duration of therapy should be checked with your doctor, as it may vary significantly from patient to patient. Usually the medication is not used for more than two weeks.

Polydexa

A good remedy that allows you to quickly eliminate purulent tumors with a small number of side effects. If there are complications with a runny nose, the patient should first completely eliminate mucus from the nasal cavity, and then make one injection into each passage. The recommended daily amount of Polydexa is five injections into each nasal passage. The duration of therapy is no more than two weeks.

Attention! This group of drugs can be used only in the presence of purulent discharge.

Maybe we can soar our feet?

A runny nose (doctors say rhinitis) is an inflammation of the nasal mucosa. Most often, it is caused by an infection, viral or bacterial. The main symptoms of a runny nose are nasal congestion and discharge. In principle, it is possible to cope with this without medications. For example, to ease breathing, you can use a hot foot bath or place mustard plasters on the back of your shins. Blood will flow to the legs, flowing away from the head, and nasal congestion will decrease.

However, all these procedures cannot be done if you have a temperature above 38 °C. In addition, it is easier to use pharmaceutical products. And although most medications for the common cold do not eliminate the cause of the disease, they make you feel better and prevent the development of complications, such as sinusitis.

Spray or drops?

For the medicine to give the best effect, it must be used correctly. Blow your nose before putting drops into your nose. Then lie on your back, tilt your head back slightly and turn your head. This will allow the drops to penetrate better into the openings of your sinuses. When instilled correctly, there is no sensation of aching in the forehead, and you do not feel the taste of the drops in your mouth.

Nasal sprays are much more convenient than drops - you don’t have to lie down, you just need to spray the spray into your nose by pressing the dispenser. In addition, sprays are difficult to overdose, which means there is less risk of side effects.

Vasoconstrictor drugs

This is the most popular type of medicine. They act on special adrenaline receptors on the nasal mucosa. As a result, the vessels narrow, swelling of the mucous membrane and nasal congestion decrease.

The disadvantage of these drugs is that they are quickly addictive. The vessels begin to depend on the medicine: there is a “dose” - they narrow, no - they relax, and swelling occurs again. Therefore, the duration of use of such drops and sprays should not be more than 7-10 days. The optimal treatment period is 3-5 days.

It is necessary to strictly follow the instructions and not exceed the dosage and recommended frequency of administration. Even short-acting drugs should not be used more than four times a day. If the dosage is not followed, a paradoxical effect is possible: swelling after using the drugs becomes more pronounced.

When used, side effects may occur: burning and tingling sensation in the nose, dry nasal mucosa, palpitations, heart rhythm disturbances, increased blood pressure, headache.

Pregnant and lactating women can use vasoconstrictors only with the consent of a doctor. Many of the drugs in this group are contraindicated for them.

For children, there are special pediatric forms of vasoconstrictor drugs. Their active ingredient is often phenylephrine, which is considered the safest for babies. Products intended for adults should not be used by children. But for adults, “children’s” is okay. Sometimes they help just as well, and cause less discomfort and side effects. If the standard pediatric dose does not help you, you can increase it by 2 times, but no more.

Different vasoconstrictor drugs have different durations of action.

There are combination drugs. For example, in the Snoop spray, the vasoconstrictor component is combined with sea water. This allows you to eliminate nasal congestion without irritating the mucous membrane. Another example is “Xymelin Extra”, which, due to its two-component composition, not only eliminates nasal congestion, but also significantly reduces the amount of liquid discharge.

Products based on sea water

Sea water is an effective remedy for the prevention and treatment of runny nose. Preparations based on it are often recommended for use in cases where vasoconstrictor drugs are contraindicated. In terms of strength and speed of action, sea water is inferior to them, but it is completely safe. The most popular drugs in this group are Physiomer, Quix, Aqua Maris, and the Aqualor line of drugs.

Seawater solutions are either isotonic or hypertonic. In isotonic ones, the salt content varies within 0.9%, in hypertonic ones it is higher. For prevention it is better to use isotonic solutions, for treatment - hypertonic. The latter “pull” excess moisture from the cells of the inflamed mucous membrane. Thanks to this, the swelling becomes less pronounced, and nasal breathing is restored. Information about the concentration of salts in a particular product can be obtained from the instructions or from a pharmacist.

There are many options for using sea water - from regular irrigation to thorough nasal rinsing. Each method has its own nuances, indications and contraindications. Therefore, seawater solutions must be used according to the instructions.

And pay attention to the packaging - the drugs differ in the strength of the jet pressure and the technique of use.

Components of medicinal herbs can be added to seawater-based products. For example, “Aqualor extra forte” additionally contains extracts of aloe vera and Roman chamomile, and “Dolphin” contains extracts of rose hips and licorice. This may enhance the therapeutic effect, however, if you are prone to allergies, it is better to use products without additives.

Preparations with essential oils

The most famous products of this group are “Pinosol” and “Evkasept”. Essential oils have an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect, making nasal breathing a little easier.

These remedies help well in cases where a runny nose persists, “crusts” form in the nose, and dry mucous membranes are bothersome.

Medicines can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but they are contraindicated in children under 2 years of age.

Unlike drugs from other groups, these medications cannot be used for allergic rhinitis. If you have a runny nose due to a cold, but you have a tendency to allergies, products based on essential oils should be used with caution.

Sometimes essential oils are added to vasoconstrictor drugs to enhance the effect. Plant components of mint and eucalyptus are, for example, in the Otrivin Menthol and Nazol Advance sprays.

What else is there in the pharmacy

There are medications for the common cold that are difficult to classify into any one group. They help a lot too!

A drug Peculiarities
"Vibrocil" A drug with vasoconstrictor and antiallergic effects for adults and children. Available in the form of drops, spray and gel. Well suited for those who have an allergic runny nose combined with a cold.
"Rinofluimucil" Contains two active substances: one of them has a vasoconstrictor, anti-edematous and anti-inflammatory effect, and the other dilutes secretions. It has a good effect if the mucus in the nose has already become thick.
"Sinupret" The drug is in the form of pills and drops for oral administration (not in the nose!). Contains bioactive substances obtained from medicinal plants that facilitate nasal breathing. Promotes the outflow of contents from the paranasal sinuses. It has anti-inflammatory effects, immunomodulatory and antiviral activity.

When to go to the doctor?

In most cases, a cold can be dealt with on your own. However, you need to see a doctor if:

  • nasal congestion and discharge from it persist for more than a week, and even earlier than this period if greenish purulent discharge appears;
  • against the background of a runny nose, the ear hurts and/or hearing is decreased;
  • headaches and a feeling of heaviness in the sinuses appeared;
  • a runny nose is accompanied by a temperature above 38 °C;
  • Coordination problems and dizziness occurred;
  • the disturbance in the perception of odors persists for more than 2 days.

A runny nose is a nuisance that every person has encountered. Constantly running snot, watery eyes, difficulty breathing through the nose and a headache can take you out of your usual rut for a long time. If these symptoms are accompanied by fever and increased body temperature, then you should not delay going to the doctor. In the case of a mild runny nose, few people seek medical help, but it is still necessary to alleviate the condition. Most people use all sorts of remedies for a runny nose. In order to choose the drug that is most suitable for the price and determine for yourself which company’s product is best to purchase, the editors of “I Found” have prepared a rating of high-quality drugs for runny nose and nasal congestion.

Before deciding which drug for the common cold is best to buy, you need to understand the causes of this common ailment. Doctors highlight the following:

  1. Acute respiratory viral infection - in the vast majority of cases, it is this that causes “leaking” from the nose. In this case, the snot will go away when the body copes with the disease. For a speedy recovery, it is recommended to stay in bed, drink more water and eat citrus fruits.
  2. Allergy. This is indicated by a severe runny nose, frequent sneezing, and watery eyes. The easiest way to get rid of these troubles is to eliminate the cause. If this is not possible, for example, during the flowering period of plants, it is necessary to take antihistamines.
  3. Vasomotor rhinitis appears due to a lack of functioning of the nervous system, which cannot provide an adequate response to vascular tone, so they react to sudden changes in temperature, cold, and physical activity.
  4. Chronic diseases of the ENT organs. A runny nose is a constant companion for people suffering from chronic rhinitis, sinusitis, sinusitis, and tonsillitis. The listed diseases can lead to serious health problems and require consultation with a specialist.
  5. Deviation of the nasal septum.
  6. Presence of foreign bodies in the nose.
  7. Dry air. In case of low humidity in the room, the problem can be easily solved by purchasing a humidifier.
  8. Poor environmental situation in the place of residence. This is especially often observed in large industrial cities with heavy air pollution.

How to cure a runny nose at home without medications. Traditional methods

A slight discomfort accompanied by the separation of liquid transparent mucus from the nose can be successfully treated without the use of pharmaceutical remedies for the common cold. Proven folk remedies will help in this matter.

  1. Drinking plenty of fluids is the best help for colds and runny nose. You can drink plain warm water with lemon, herbal teas from chamomile, St. John's wort, mint. But it is better to refuse milk during this period, as it provokes the release of liquid mucus from the nose.
  2. Nasal rinsing. If there are no special means at home, you can use the simplest technology: pour salted water into your palm and draw it in through one nostril so that the liquid flows out of the other. This effective method helps with liquid transparent snot, but is contraindicated for nasal congestion.
  3. Grate the onion on a fine grater, wrap it in a napkin and place it on the wings of your nose for 10-20 minutes. Onion vapors have a strong antibacterial and antimicrobial effect.
  4. Place herbal infusions into your nose. Oak bark is especially helpful. It has an astringent effect. One tablespoon of the plant is poured into a glass of boiling water and left for at least half an hour. Place 3 drops in each nostril into the nose.
  5. Aromatherapy using essential oils of eucalyptus, pine, tea tree. Inhaling vapors relieves inflammation in the nasal mucosa, relieves congestion and has a beneficial effect on breathing.

Classification and types of medicines for the common cold

If all of the above methods of dealing with a runny nose have not helped, and you don’t want to go to the doctor, it makes sense to seek help from special medications for a runny nose, having first found out what they are.

  1. Means for cleansing and moisturizing the nose. Designed to prevent drying out of the mucous membrane and make thick nasal discharge more liquid, making it easier to remove. Such drugs are considered absolutely safe and have no age restrictions, suitable even for children under one year old. Their main active ingredient is sterile sea water.
  2. Plant-based drops. They consist of specially selected phytocomponents and essential oils. They have a mild, long-lasting effect and have a beneficial effect on local immunity. Their main disadvantage is the high likelihood of an allergic reaction.
  3. Vasoconstrictor drops and sprays. Relieves swelling of the nasal mucosa and reduces mucus production. They are based on naphazoline, xylometazoline, oxymetazoline. With prolonged uncontrolled use they can be addictive.
  4. Drops with bactericidal action. Used for bacterial complications of viral infections. They are based on antibiotics that fight pathogens and block the spread of the inflammatory process. Before use, it is better to consult a doctor, since in addition to their benefits, these medications can cause harm to the body.
  5. Hormonal drugs for the common cold. They act on the source of inflammation, reducing its intensity and gradually neutralizing it. Used for severe allergic rhinitis, acute sinusitis, sinusitis, as prescribed by a doctor. Self-treatment with hormonal drugs is undesirable and dangerous.
  6. Homeopathic medicines. They are not recognized by official medicine; their potential effectiveness has not yet been proven. The principle of action is based on increasing local immunity.
  7. Antiviral drugs. They are most likely based on the use of interferon, which blocks the proliferation of viruses and improves the body's resistance. Most products of this type have also not undergone clinical trials.

Criteria for choosing a remedy for the common cold

Preferring inexpensive and budget-friendly remedies for the common cold, buyers usually make standard mistakes when choosing. In this paragraph, we will consider the question: what to pay attention to before purchasing a medicine.

  1. The nature and intensity of nasal discharge. With rare liquid snot, doctors recommend allowing the immune system to cope with the problem on its own, without using auxiliary remedies for the runny nose. An alternative option is seawater-based sprays or drops. If the inflammatory process has gone too far and has spread to neighboring tissues and organs, you need to seek help from a specialist so that he can select the appropriate antibacterial drug. In case of difficulty in nasal breathing, it makes sense to use vasoconstrictor drops to improve the general condition.
  2. Allergy to certain active ingredients or herbal components.
  3. A history of contraindications to the use of drugs for the common cold.
  4. Age of the sick person. For children, a special dosage or its own form of the drug is provided.
  5. Pregnancy or breastfeeding. During these important periods, it is best to avoid using any strong medications or use them as prescribed by a doctor.

Data-lazy-type="image" data-src="https://prostudych.ru/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/15_Cara-Menghilangkan-Pilek-300x2281.jpg" alt=" runny nose in a woman" width="300" height="228"> !} How to treat a runny nose in adults has interested every person at least once in their life. Rhinitis is an unpleasant symptom of various diseases: ARVI, flu, colds, allergies, etc. Depending on the cause of a runny nose, treatment methods vary.

To treat rhinitis, you can use drops, tablets, sprays, folk recipes, etc. However, before using any means, it is recommended to consult a doctor who will prescribe medicine for each case individually. Only competent treatment will quickly get rid of the disease. We'll tell you what effective medicines there are for any runny nose.

Drops for the treatment of rhinitis

Drops and sprays are the most popular means for the treatment of rhinitis, as they have the greatest effectiveness and a minimum of contraindications. There are several types of drops: vasoconstrictor, homeopathic, for rinsing, herbal, antibacterial, immunomodulatory, antiviral, anti-inflammatory. This is something that can cure a runny nose without any hassle.

If your nose is stuffy due to a runny nose, vasoconstrictor medications are most often prescribed. As a rule, they have a combined effect: they constrict blood vessels, eliminate viruses and inflammation. Vasoconstrictors are very effective for severe nasal congestion, as they relieve swelling of the mucous membrane and reduce the formation of snot. This makes breathing easier. However, you need to keep in mind that these funds cannot be used for more than 7 days, as addiction develops. Representatives of this group of drugs are Naphthyzin, Xymelin, Xylen, Galazolin, Sanorin, etc.
