Troxevasin is a drug from the group of angioprotectors that has the property of strengthening the capillary wall, thereby reducing its permeability and the fragility of small blood vessels. Thanks to its angioprotective effect, Troxevasin effectively eliminates manifestations of venous insufficiency, relieves edema, relieves inflammation and improves the tone of the smooth muscle elements of the vein walls, and also reduces the severity of trophic disorders in soft tissues associated with insufficient functional activity of microvessels.

Troxevasin may be produced by other companies under the name Troxerutin, but despite the different names, they are the same drug. Therefore, in the further text of the article we will use the name “Troxevasin” to refer to drugs, remembering that everything stated applies equally to drugs sold under the name “Troxerutin”.

Names, varieties, release forms and composition of Troxevasin

Currently, there are two main types of Troxevasin on the pharmaceutical market:
1. Troxevasin.
2. Troxevasin Neo.

Troxevasin is available in two dosage forms - capsules for oral administration And gel for external application . Troxevasin Neo exists in a single form - gel for external application . The differences between Troxevasin and Troxevasin Neo are that the second drug (Neo) contains several active components, while the first contains only one. Therefore, Troxevasin Neo gel has a slightly more pronounced effect compared to Troxevasin.

Gel Troxevasin and Troxevasin Neo are often called ointment, but this is incorrect. The drug is not available in ointment form. However, often people, not knowing the exact name of the dosage form for external application, refer to it as an ointment. In this case, they mean Troxevasin gel, since there is no ointment.

Capsules for oral administration Troxevasin are often called tablets, which is also incorrect. However, at the everyday level, people know that they need a form for oral administration, and as a rule these are tablets, and therefore Troxevasin is given the name tablets, not capsules. That is, when someone talks about Troxevasin tablets, they mean capsules, since there are no other forms for oral administration.

The composition of the gel and capsules includes Troxevasin as an active component troxerutin. In the gel, the concentration of the active substance is 2%, that is, each 1 g contains 20 mg of troxerutin. Each capsule contains 300 mg of active substance. The active components of the Troxevasin Neo gel include troxerutin (20 mg per 1 g), heparin (1.7 mg per 1 g) and dexpanthenol (panthenol) (50 mg per 1 g). The auxiliary components of Troxevasin and Troxevasin Neo are shown in the table.

Troxevasin capsules have a hard gelatin shell of a cylindrical shape, colored yellow. Inside the capsules there is a powder colored yellow or yellow-green. Sometimes the powder cakes into fairly large pieces, which easily fall apart when crushed with your fingers. Capsules are available in packs of 50 and 100 pieces.

Troxevasin gel is transparent, yellow or light brown. Available in aluminum tubes of 40 g. Troxevasin Neo gel is also transparent or almost transparent, but is colored yellowish or greenish-yellow. Also available in 40 g tubes.

Therapeutic effects of Troxevasin

The therapeutic effects of Troxevasin are provided by troxerutin, which is part of it, which has the following effects:
  • Venotonic effect;
  • Angioprotective effect;
  • Anti-inflammatory effect;
  • Anti-edema effect;
  • Antioxidant action.
Venotonic effect consists of increasing the tone of the smooth muscle elements of the veins, which become more elastic, smooth and less permeable. Due to increased tone of the venous wall, blood transportation to the heart is improved, its stagnation in peripheral tissues (legs, arms, etc.) is stopped and the sweating of fluid into the tissue is reduced.

Angioprotective effect is to strengthen the vascular wall and increase its resistance to adverse environmental influences. Thanks to this effect, the vessels can withstand much greater loads without being damaged, but continuing to function effectively.

Anti-inflammatory effect consists in stopping the inflammatory process in the venous wall and in the soft tissues surrounding it (muscles, ligaments, etc.).

Anti-edema effect consists in reducing the swelling of peripheral tissues associated with excessive sweating of the liquid part of the blood from veins with insufficient tone.

Antioxidant action consists of neutralizing free radical molecules that damage the cells of the vascular wall, thereby making it thin, weak and easily permeable. That is, due to the antioxidant effect, the amount of damage to the vein walls is reduced.

Thanks to the listed effects, Troxevasin in relation to small blood vessels (capillaries) has the following therapeutic effect:

  • Reduces capillary fragility;
  • Reduces capillary permeability;
  • Strengthens the walls of capillaries;
  • Reduces the severity of the inflammatory process in the capillary wall;
  • Reduces platelet adhesion to the inflamed capillary wall and, accordingly, prevents the formation of blood clots;
  • Improves microcirculation and tissue nutrition;
  • Relieves swelling;
  • Reduces pain associated with inflammation and swelling of capillaries and surrounding tissues;
  • Reduces the severity of symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency.
The listed therapeutic effects determine the scope of use of Troxevasin - the treatment of venous insufficiency, thrombophlebitis, trophic ulcers, as well as the treatment of various conditions associated with increased vascular permeability (for example, influenza, allergic reactions, measles, etc.). The topical gel is also used to treat bumps, bruises and sprains.

Troxevasin Neo gel, in addition to troxerutin, contains heparin and dexpanthenol, which provide the drug with a number of additional therapeutic effects. That is, Troxevasin Neo has all of the above effects of Troxevasin, and in addition to them several more.

So, heparin has a powerful anticoagulant effect, which provides a reliable and pronounced antithrombotic effect. That is, Troxevasin Neo is much better than Troxevasin in preventing the formation of blood clots and intensifying microcirculation. Dexpanthenol is a precursor of vitamin B5, and provides excellent and rapid regeneration of damaged tissues, and also improves the absorption of heparin.

Troxevasin (gel, capsules) and Troxevasin Neo (gel) - indications for use

Both dosage forms of Troxevasin and Troxevasin Neo gel are indicated for use for the same diseases and conditions. However, in case of moderate or severe pathological changes, it is recommended to carry out a course of treatment with simultaneous ingestion of Troxevasin capsules and external application of Troxevasin or Troxevasin Neo gel to the skin. If pathological changes in tissues are mild or moderate, then only Troxevasin and Troxevasin Neo gel can be used.

Since Troxevasin Neo gel has a stronger antithrombotic and reparative effect compared to Troxevasin, it is recommended for use in thrombophlebitis, periphlebitis and trophic ulcers. For these conditions, Troxevasin Neo gel is the drug of choice, and in all other cases, any type of medication can be used.

So, the indications for the use of Troxevasin and Troxevasin Neo capsules and gel are the following conditions and diseases:

  • Relief of symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency (pain, swelling, heaviness, feeling of fullness and fatigue in the legs, spider veins and spider veins, cramps and paresthesia);
  • Phlebeurysm;
  • Superficial thrombophlebitis and periphlebitis;
  • Phlebothrombosis;
  • Postphlebilitic syndrome;
  • Trophic disorders due to venous insufficiency (pale skin, formation of bruises and hematomas, poor and slow wound healing, etc.);
  • Dermatitis caused by varicose veins;
  • Trophic ulcers associated with chronic venous insufficiency;
  • Haemorrhoids;
  • Swelling, pain and bruising after soft tissue injuries;
  • Hemorrhagic diathesis;
  • Conditions in which there is increased capillary permeability (for example, acute viral infections such as influenza, scarlet fever, etc.);
  • Paresthesia (impaired sensitivity in the form of goosebumps, etc.) on the lower extremities at night and after waking up;
  • Cramps of the calf muscles at night;
  • Diabetic angiopathy and retinopathy;
  • Side effects of radiation therapy;
  • As an auxiliary drug for restoring the functioning of blood vessels after sclerotherapy of veins and removal of varicose nodes, including hemorrhoids;
  • To improve microcirculation as part of complex therapy for diabetes mellitus, hypertension and atherosclerosis;
  • Venous insufficiency and hemorrhoids during pregnancy, starting from the 13th week of gestation.

Instructions for use

Troxevasin gel (ointment) and Troxevasin Neo - instructions for use

Troxevasin and Troxevasin Neo gels are applied to the skin with gentle massaging movements until completely absorbed, twice a day - morning and evening. If necessary, after applying and absorbing the gel into the skin, you can put on compression garments (stockings, stockings, tights) or wrap elastic bandages. Troxevasin can also be used under compresses.

Do not apply the gel to damaged areas of the skin (open wounds), mucous membranes or eyes. Additionally, Troxevasin Neo should not be administered into the vagina or rectum. Remember that both types of gel are intended for external use on the skin only.

In order to obtain a pronounced therapeutic effect, Troxevasin gel should be applied to the skin regularly for a long period of time until swelling, pain, heaviness and a feeling of fullness in the legs completely disappear. The success of therapy depends on the regularity and duration of use of the gel.

After swelling and other manifestations of venous insufficiency have passed, you can stop using Troxevasin gel. If symptoms reoccur, it is necessary to start the course of gel therapy again and continue it until the condition is completely normalized and the painful manifestations of the disease disappear.

Similar courses of using Troxevasin gel can be carried out an unlimited number of times throughout life. However, you should follow a simple rule - when symptoms disappear, stop using the gel, and when they appear, start using the drug again.

Troxevasin Neo should be used in a course lasting 2–3 weeks, but no more. During the year, you can conduct no more than 2 - 3 courses with intervals between them of 4 - 5 months.

If the severity of the symptoms of the disease does not decrease within 6 to 7 days of regular use of any type of drug, then you should consult a doctor.

Elderly people can use the gel without restrictions.

In order to enhance the therapeutic effect for venous insufficiency, the gel can be combined with taking Troxevasin capsules orally. If the gel is used for diseases accompanied by increased capillary permeability (influenza, scarlet fever and other viral infections), then to enhance its therapeutic effect it is necessary to additionally take ascorbic acid (vitamin C) orally.

Troxevasin capsules (tablets) – instructions for use

Capsules should be taken with meals, swallowed whole, without biting or allowing the powder to spill out in other ways, and with a sufficient amount of water (200 ml).

In the first 1 to 2 weeks of therapy, you should take 1 capsule (300 mg) 3 times a day. Then, when the therapeutic effect develops fully and the symptoms decrease, you should switch to taking Troxevasin capsules in a maintenance dosage. If the symptoms of venous insufficiency were very severe, then the maintenance dosage is the same as the initial one, that is, the drug should continue to be taken 1 capsule 3 times a day for 3 to 4 weeks. If the symptoms were moderate or mild, then the maintenance dosage is 600 mg per day, that is, the drug should be continued to be taken 1 capsule 2 times a day.

That is, the scheme for using Troxevasin capsules is two-stage. At the first stage, for 1 to 2 weeks, all people need to take 1 capsule 3 times a day in order to quickly reduce the severity of symptoms. At the second stage, a person must either continue taking Troxevasin at the same dosage as in the first stage, or reduce it to 600 mg, drinking 1 capsule 2 times a day for another 3 to 4 weeks. Thus, the total duration of treatment with Troxevasin capsules, consisting of two stages, is 1 – 6 weeks.

In addition, treatment with Troxevasin capsules can be interrupted after completion of the first stage. In this case, the therapeutic effect will last for approximately 4 weeks.

Troxevasin gel can also only provoke allergic reactions (urticaria, eczema, dermatitis) as side effects.

Troxevasin capsules when taken orally can cause the following side effects:

  • Nausea;
  • Erosive and ulcerative lesions of the mucous membranes of the digestive tract;
  • Skin rash;
  • Hives;
  • Eczema;
  • Dermatitis;
  • Headache;
  • Tides.
All side effects disappear very quickly after completion of treatment, but do not require discontinuation of the drug.

In this article you can read the instructions for use of the drug Troxevasin. Reviews of site visitors - consumers of this medicine, as well as the opinions of specialist doctors on the use of Troxevasin in their practice are presented. We kindly ask you to actively add your reviews about the drug: whether the medicine helped or did not help get rid of the disease, what complications and side effects were observed, perhaps not stated by the manufacturer in the annotation. Analogues of Troxevasin in the presence of existing structural analogues. Use for the treatment of varicose veins, thrombophlebitis, hematomas and bruises in adults, children, as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Troxevasin- a remedy for the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency. It is a derivative of routine.

It has P-vitamin activity, participates in redox processes, blocks hyaluronidase, stabilizes hyaluronic acid in cell membranes and reduces their permeability.

Normalizes the permeability of capillary walls, increases their tone. Increases the density of the vascular wall, reduces exudation of the liquid part of the plasma and diapedesis of blood cells. Reduces exudative inflammation in the vascular wall, limits the adhesion of platelets to its surface.

For chronic venous insufficiency, use is recommended both in the initial and late stages of the disease. As a result of treatment, the feeling of heaviness in the legs disappears, swelling of the lower extremities decreases, and trophism improves. In conditions characterized by increased vascular permeability and disruption of their structure (including scarlet fever, influenza, measles, allergic reactions), it is used in combination with ascorbic acid to enhance its effects.

Pharmacokinetics

Well absorbed from the skin surface when used externally (gel).

When taken orally, it is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Easily passes histohematic barriers. Metabolized in the liver to form two metabolites. It is excreted by the kidneys and bile (11% unchanged) during the day.

Indications

  • chronic venous insufficiency with such manifestations as static heaviness in the legs, leg ulcers, trophic skin lesions;
