The climatic conditions of our region do not always contribute to the full ripening of fruits. At the end of summer, when the nights are short and cool, this problem becomes very relevant. Experienced gardeners recommend to independently accelerate the ripening of pepper.

Correct fit

To get a large harvest of ripe paprika, lay the conditions for this at the very initial stages of crop development. From planting the plant depends on its further development and the timing of fruit ripening.

  1. Temperature. You can use the rule, the sooner you plant, the sooner you get a harvest, with extreme caution. This will work in regions with a warm climate. In other cases, it is possible to plant a crop only in well-heated soil.
  2. Plant the plant in a permanent place during the period when a stable comfortable temperature has been established. The thermometer should not fall below 180C during the day and 140C at night.
  3. Lighting. Paprika bushes love light. Break the plot for the beds for this crop in well-lit places. When planting plants of different varieties, place them correctly. For tall crops, allocate a plot in the center of the bed, undersized ones will feel great along the edges of the bed.
  4. Thickness. Follow the planting pattern for sweet peppers. During the growing season, the plant becomes powerful, sprawling. Neighboring bushes will interfere with each other. The lack of light and nutrients will adversely affect the timing of fruit ripening.
  5. Priming. Culture loves fertile and light soil. Before planting, be sure to fertilize the soil in the beds with organic fertilizers. Add dolomite flour to reduce the acidity of the soil. To give lightness to the soil, periodically loosen the beds.
  6. Fertilizers. Don't neglect feeds. For each period of development of culture, certain nutrients are needed. Do not fertilize the plant with nitrogen during flowering or fruiting. Properly organized diet helps to reduce the ripening of fruits.
  7. Watering. Water the pepper rarely, but plentifully. Creating high humidity for the culture will result in the development of fungal and bacterial diseases.

Topping

For the normal development of the culture, two or three shoots are enough. Pinching bushes will force the plant to save its strength and speed up the ripening of peppers. Experienced gardeners do the following:

  • on a still small bush, the crown bud is removed;
  • during the period of active flowering, barren flowers are cut off;
  • throughout the entire period of growth, they get rid of excess shoots;
  • at the end of summer, absolutely all flowers are plucked;
  • during the period of approaching cold weather, small peppercorns are collected that will not reach the maturity period.

These simple manipulations allow the culture to direct all its resources to the ripening of the fruits that have set.

Gardeners have seen in practice that it is possible to speed up the ripening of paprika fruits by resorting to little tricks. These include:

  • creation of additional shelters;
  • maintaining optimal temperature conditions;
  • watering the culture with hot water;
  • foliar plant nutrition;
  • removal of foliage.

shelter

After planting seedlings in a permanent place, observe a constant favorable temperature regime. For peppers, the comfort zone ranges from 200C to 250C during the day and from 150C to 180C at night.

To ensure this, build a shelter for plants. Use non-woven material, agrofibre. Cover crop beds as needed.

Continue to use such shelters during the first autumn colds. So you can harvest before the onset of frost.

Airing

In late summer and early autumn, condensation forms in greenhouses due to differences in day and night temperatures. This leads to the multiplication of pathogenic fungi and pathogenic bacteria. The plant stops growing.

To get rid of such a problem, ventilate the greenhouse. Leave the room open during the day and close at night.

For those bushes that grow in open ground, take care of the film shelters for the night.

warm water

To speed up the ripening of tomatoes and peppers, gardeners are advised to use rather hot water for irrigating crops in cold weather. Its temperature can be from 40 to 600C. Water the plant under the root, try not to pour water on the leaves.

Foliar top dressing

During the period of mass formation of ovaries, spray the culture once every ten days. Use weak solutions of phosphorus-potassium fertilizers or wood ash infusion.

In specialized stores, drugs appeared - stimulants for the formation of fruits. Such formulations are not recommended for use in late August and autumn. They will provoke the formation of new peppercorns, and the existing fruits will stop ripening.

First, it is worth checking which variety of pepper is chosen. Maybe ripe fruits should not be reddish at all, but greenish or lilac. Therefore, if the peppers did not get a reddish, but a yellowish, orange or green color, there is no need to be surprised, maybe this is a natural stage of development.

For early harvest when growing peppers in a greenhouse, you need to choose the right variety. Residents of the middle zone and northern latitudes need to choose only early and very early varieties of hot and sweet peppers, and those who live in a milder climate are suitable for mid-season varieties. Modifications give the best collection: they are resistant to frost and diseases, and have beautiful taste properties. There are a huge variety of both reddish hot and sweet peppers on the market, so it will not be difficult to choose the most suitable one, and growing peppers in a greenhouse will give excellent results.

It is desirable to have two doors and different sides, equipped with small vestibules. For plants, a drip irrigation system is convenient. Such a system can be equipped with a polycarbonate greenhouse for peppers. The northern wall of the greenhouse can be laid out with cinder blocks or timber, a capital coating will protect the plants from wind and frost.

For closed ground, bushes of an interminate type are suitable, which do not take root well in open beds. For their fastening, strong stakes or trellises are needed. If you want to save a scarce area, then tall pepper is not suitable for a greenhouse, it is better to pay attention to compact standard bushes.

In this case, it is best to install special lamps with UV radiation. In addition, it does not hurt to pluck the ovaries that are superfluous. They can consume too many substances for development, so that the plant simply cannot fully provide a large number of ovaries and flowers at once. If they are plucked, the plant will immediately begin to spend less energy, so that those ovaries that remain will quickly turn into a full-fledged fruit and turn red.

If the fruits cannot ripen in any way, then you can simply pick them and wait until they turn red. This home method also works. By the way, experienced experts just do not advise keeping the fruits of bell pepper on the plant so that they are fully ripe.

Why is sweet pepper bitter?

They write that sweet and hot pepper bushes should be planted at a distance of at least 5 m from each other, because they are very successfully pollinated. It also happens that sweet and bitter peppers are pollinated this year, and peppers will have an uncharacteristic taste next season if you sow the collected seeds from pollinated peppers.

It's all about the seeds. Or you planted seeds already pollinated with bitter pepper, or you have such a variety. Now on sale there are several varieties with a mixed taste. The pepper itself is sweet, but the partitions are bitter. Try cutting off the partitions and taste the pepper itself, whether it is bitter or not.

Perhaps the seeds were stale, the reason may also be in the soil. Let's say that when you were digging, you brought manure to the bed, and there may also be an overdose of mineral fertilizers.

It was cold for a long time for peppers, so unripe peppers are bitter. Now it will be warm and dry and everything will go fine. With high humidity and coolness, few sugars are formed. Some varieties behave this way in bad weather. In biological maturity, this will disappear. And what is the shape of the pepper? If the fruits are narrow and long, then perhaps really sharp.

Any peppers, whether red or green, must be poured with boiling water and left to cool completely, then drain the water and stuff.

Pepper pollen is heavy and sticky. It is transferred to other varieties mainly by insects, sticking to their paws and abdomen. It is not even necessary to have bitter pepper varieties in your garden or near your nearest neighbors for vegetable varieties to be pollinated bitter. Even a distance of hundreds of meters from them will not save the landing from their influence. As you know, bees, for example, can fly from their hives at a distance of up to 7 km and easily transfer a variety of pollen to other plants.

For those who are trying to get their own pepper seeds in our conditions, it can be recommended to isolate the flowers before opening the buds with cotton wool to prevent foreign pollen from entering.

You need to put the pepper in some kind of container, for example, a wooden box, lining the bottom and walls with newspapers. And put in each row of green pepper, red ripe pepper, or a ripe tomato, or a ripe apple, well, what is at hand. Cover the top with newspaper too. If the peppers are harvested at the stage of milky ripeness, then in a week they will ripen. If in technical ripeness, then they should also (theoretically) ripen, but a little later.

The meaning of this procedure is that ripe vegetables and fruits emit ethylene gas, and under its influence, green vegetables and fruits begin to ripen rapidly. The main thing is that both of them lie together in the same container, and the gas cannot diverge anywhere. If you wrap each separately, then ethylene will not be able to spread throughout the entire volume and, on the contrary, the ripening of peppers will slow down.

Anyone who watches Malysheva's program knows that fruits and vegetables cannot be stored together with apples, apples act on everything, spurring overripeness, so feel free to put apples in a container with pepper and it will turn red in an instant.

Bulgarian pepper is a vegetable that many people love and use in the preparation of various dishes. The benefits and harms of this plant are well studied, and juicy pods are skillfully used not only in cooking, but also in such significant areas as medicine and cosmetology. And what do we know about the properties of bell pepper? How useful or harmful is it?

What are the benefits of red pepper?

Red sweet pepper can be called a dietary product, despite the name "sweet" it has a very low sugar content, only five percent, and this is the first plus of the usefulness of this vegetable. Its usefulness is evidenced by a variety of vitamins and mineral salts. Red bell pepper is the champion among vegetables in terms of vitamin C content, its content is many times higher than in lemon and black currant. Just one eaten pepper, five times the daily human need for vitamin C. Its highest concentration is around the stalk.

Pepper fruit is simply a must for smokers - vitamin A significantly reduces the risk of lung disease. Ascorbic acid in combination with vitamin P helps to strengthen the walls of blood vessels.

The beneficial properties of bell pepper with red fruits also lie in the content of the pigment lycopene, which actively inhibits the growth of cancer cells. Unfortunately, it is not found in fruits of a different color. The alkaloid capsaicin, found in the red vegetable, has an important biological effect, thins the blood, reducing the risk of blood clots, and helps to lower pressure, activates the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas.

Another important element contained in red paprika in large quantities is zinc, which is necessary for the active functioning of the brain, as well as for stimulating sexual activity. Folic acid and vitamins B6 and B9 will protect against various cardiovascular diseases and strengthen the nervous system. The sodium and potassium salts contained in the fruits, iron, phosphorus, iodine make it possible to recommend red bell pepper as a good remedy for preventing anemia and strengthening the immune system.

Pepper is indispensable for expectant mothers. By including it in your daily menu, a pregnant woman will strengthen her bones and teeth.

By using Bulgarian pepper, people who are in a state of depression, memory impairment, suffering from insomnia or loss of strength can replenish their body with vital vitamins B1, B2, B6, PP - this will undoubtedly benefit them. The use of bell pepper in the composition of ointments and patches helps in the treatment of neuralgia, sciatica and arthritis.

Sweet pepper is known not only for its preventive and healing properties, but also rejuvenating. From ripe fruits, you can make anti-aging face masks without leaving your home. Pepper juice is used as a moisturizing tonic. Such simple procedures saturate the skin with vitamins and minerals, preventing premature aging, and drinking a glass of juice every day can strengthen the immune system and protect against colds.

Often, nutritionists recommend using red bell peppers during weight loss. The fiber content in pepper fruits allows you to cleanse the intestines of toxins and speed up the passage of other foods.. Its low calorie content allows it to be paired with protein-rich foods.

We figured out how useful sweet pepper is: it is tasty and healthy, it helps with various diseases. But even with the use of even such a wonderful product, there are a number of contraindications.

Bulgarian pepper is contraindicated in heart rhythm disturbances and coronary disease. The use of sweet pepper reduces pressure, so hypotensive patients should use it with caution.

People with chronic kidney and liver diseases should limit the use, or completely exclude red pepper from the diet. It is not recommended to use paprika with a stomach ulcer and duodenal ulcer, various stages of gastritis.

People with epilepsy and various mental disorders should not eat bell peppers. This product is also not recommended for people with individual intolerance.

The fruits of red bell pepper are able to accumulate nitrates and pesticides. Pepper oversaturated with chemistry is harmful even to a healthy person, therefore buy pepper preferably in the season of its natural ripening and from local producers. When choosing bell pepper, you should buy only ripe fruits without dents and wrinkles with a green elastic tail. A ripe vegetable should have thick and firm flesh with a shiny surface. During heat treatment, many useful properties are lost in fruits; for greater benefit, it is recommended to eat bell pepper only fresh.

After weighing all the pros and cons, you can see that the harm from eating pepper is much less than good. This means that the use of red bell pepper in our diet is a useful and affordable prophylactic against many diseases.

Sweet pepper even in technical ripeness has a great taste, is suitable for harvesting and even contains more vitamins than a ripe one. But every housewife wants to decorate the table with bright multi-colored vegetables, and peppers sometimes hang on the bushes for weeks and still do not ripen. What is the reason? How to deal with this problem?

Why doesn't the pepper turn red?

Often this question is asked by gardeners who have sown pepper with seeds from fruits bought in a supermarket. Usually these are fruitful, large-fruited, thick-walled hybrids. They were brought from the south of the Russian Federation, from Turkey, China or other countries with a warm climate and long summers. In terms of maturation, they usually belong to late varieties.

Supermarkets usually sell the highest yielding peppers, but we do not know their variety and ripening period.

In most of Russia, weather conditions are not suitable for the ripening of such peppers. They simply lack warm sunny days. Already in this situation alone, several reasons for the non-ripening of peppers on the bushes are hidden. And if you analyze the situation in different gardens, then there may be even more of them:

  • Perhaps you have seeds of a green-fruited variety or hybrid. Peppers also come in yellow, white, orange, purple, chocolate color, so they should not turn red.
  • Not enough heat. Favorable temperature for growth is +22 ... +25 Ā° C, at night +15 Ā° C, at +12 Ā° C peppers generally stop growing, and at +6 Ā° C their leaves die off.
  • Didn't get ripe. Moreover, even if the seeds are bought in a store, a specific period is written on the bag before the harvest begins, in fact the peppers can grow longer. This happens due to various stresses: trauma during transplantation, cold snap, heat, rainstorms, drought, lack of food, diseases, pests. Due to each such reason, plants stop development for a week or more.
  • Seed bags indicate technical ripeness, when the fruits are poured, and not biological, when they are fully colored. The interval between these two stages can last about a month. And this is under favorable weather conditions!
  • Wrong nutrition. If the soil contains a lot of nitrogen during ripening, the bush grows leaves to the detriment of productivity.
  • High soil moisture, as well as an excess of nitrogen, activates the growth of tops, not ripening.

How to speed up the ripening of peppers in the greenhouse and open field

Wherever your pepper grows, it needs to create conditions for ripening:

  • If the temperature drops below the optimum for peppers, cover them. Keep doors and vents in the greenhouse closed at night. You can additionally cover the bushes inside the greenhouse with agrofiber. Place heat accumulators on the ground: large stones, bricks, water bottles. They will bask in the sun and give off heat at night.
  • Keep the soil always moist, but not flooded. In the open field, protect peppers from heavy rains with foil and arches.
  • Eliminate fertilizing containing nitrogen. During the fruiting period, it is enough to feed the peppers with wood ash - 1ā€“2 tbsp. l. under a bush, or mineral phosphorus-potassium fertilizer according to the instructions.

But the main thing is to choose the right seeds. In most Russian regions, only early or ultra-early ripening peppers ripen on the bushes, and mid-ripening peppers in greenhouses. Carefully read the description of the variety, what period is indicated there: to technical or biological maturity.

In cool and damp conditions, while you are waiting for the redness of the fruit, they can rot. Therefore, collect peppers in technical ripeness, ripen at home or use green. And next year, take into account your mistakes and apply the existing, albeit negative, experience for growing red peppers on the bushes.

The main reasons why bell peppers do not sing on the bushes: they do not have enough heat or the time has not come. And you can fight this by buying varieties with early ripening periods and creating optimal temperature and humidity conditions for them.
