Equipment for connecting a TV to the Internet. How to connect Smart TVs of different brands and simple TVs to the Internet

We are gradually moving into the world of Internet of things, where every gadget is able to connect to the global network. TVs are no exception. Depending on the model, you can connect to the network directly via cable using a router or set-top box. Setting up is easy. You can cope with it yourself without the help of specialists.

What TVs can be connected to the Internet?

First of all, of course, these are devices with the Smart TV function or its equivalent. This is a special integration technology that allows you to use various online functions directly on your TV. If the documentation indicates support for Smart TV, then your TV can be guaranteed to be connected to the network. Typically this is done directly or via Wi-Fi. Carefully study the technical manual, and if in doubt, we recommend that you find your TV in an online store and make sure that this technology is supported.

You can also connect to the Internet and TV without this function. However, you will need a special TV set-top box. An HDMI cable is used as a connection. This allows you to turn any TV into a “smart” one, even without a LAN port or built-in Wi-Fi. We will talk about the intricacies of setting up a TV set-top box later.

What is required to connect

Before starting the procedure, you need to make sure that you have a few things. This list includes:

  • Internet access point and router, if you plan to use the latter;
  • LAN cable (for direct connection);
  • instructions for TV;
  • knowledge of your own IP address (may be needed during setup).

Connection methods

Direct connection via cable

The method assumes that the design has a built-in LAN input. Then you need to take a cable from your provider and insert it into the appropriate port. If the provider “distributes” a dynamic IP, no manipulations on the part of the user are needed. The TV will automatically receive its IP, and you will be able to open all Internet services.

If you are provided with a static IP, then set the settings manually. To do this, follow the instructions:

Now you can check the functionality of the services, since the Internet should work.

Via router

In most apartments and houses, the home network is organized using a router. It allows you to connect several devices to the network: computer, TV, laptop, and so on. Depending on the type of router, connect the TV via cable or Wi-Fi.

By cable

The method requires you to take the following steps:

If problems arise, you can try updating the firmware of the router or the TV itself.

Via Wi-Fi

If you don't want to bother with wires, you can use a wireless connection. Your TV must have a built-in Wi-Fi module. To activate it, follow the instructions:

Fast and convenient. Please note that some TVs support WPS technology, thanks to which you do not have to enter an access password.

What to do if there is no Wi-Fi module?

In stores you can buy special Wi-Fi adapters that will allow you to connect your TV to wireless network. There is only one condition - the device must have a USB input. Wi-Fi adapters are visually similar to a flash drive, but they are relatively affordable. For home use it is not necessary to buy top models.

Please note that for specific TVs there is a list of compatible adapters. As a rule, they are created by the TV manufacturer. Computer models are often incompatible. The most popular gadgets include LG AN-WF100, AN-WF500, Samsung WIS12ABGNX/NWT and PhilIPs PTA128/00.

We use WPS

This technique will bypass the entry of authorization data.

Via PC or laptop

Users can also connect the TV to a personal computer or laptop. In this case, the device can operate in two modes:

  • Repeat image. The TV will act as a regular screen. You can use a browser or watch movies through it, but control will be carried out via a PC/laptop. It is enough to connect the device via HDMI or VGA.
  • Reading data from a computer. When organizing local network you can open access to data on your computer. This allows you to watch movies or listen to music stored on your computer's hard drive.

The last point is an extremely convenient option if you do not want to watch movies via the Internet due to low speed. You can download them to your computer, and then watch them directly from the HDD without the help of a flash drive.

The setup details depend on the specific model, but in general you need to follow a number of steps:

  • make sure that the TV is connected to your home local network (if using a router) or connected directly to the PC;
  • you need to download and install the media server on your computer;
  • add files to share and open them on your TV.

One of the most popular programs is Home Media Server. You can download it for free online. Let's look at an example of setting up this software:

Try Plex, Serviio, Kodi as a media server. Each option has its pros and cons.

Via TV set-top box

Many providers offer to purchase an additional set-top box. It already has built-in services for watching TV, a browser and home theater. Essentially this is an analogue of SmartTV. The set-top box connects to the router via a LAN cable or Wi-Fi, and to the TV via HDMI. IP settings, if necessary, are already made in the sections of the set-top box itself.

You can also buy an Android console yourself. It is an analogue of a mobile phone, but with a redesigned interface for a large screen. You can download applications from the Play Market and use them from your TV. Messengers, Skype, mail and more will be available directly from TV.

Via PLC adapter

If you have a standard modem without Wi-Fi support and an STB receiver, then the connection can be made via an Ethernet cable. But this is not always practical if the wire has nowhere to hide. An alternative solution is a PLC adapter. This is a special device that transmits a useful signal through a standard electrical network. Connection via this method offered by Rostelecom, Beeline and other companies.

The latest adapters support data transfer rates of up to 1 gigabit per second. Adapters must be inserted directly into the outlet, bypassing adapters and uninterruptible power supply devices. This will provide a better signal. The adapter and TV can be connected directly via Ethernet.

Today we have difficulty keeping up with the development of digital technology. Take TVs, for example. How easy it was before - I connected it via a cable to a satellite dish and that’s it. Digital television has made it possible to appreciate your favorite films in a new way: excellent quality, no interference, as was the case with old TV. In addition, there is finally an opportunity to tear yourself away from the computer monitor and enjoy video materials from the Internet on TV. The question arises how to do this. Of course, in the instructions for the TV, manufacturers explain how it is connected to the home and global Internet, however, not everyone clearly understands how to connect the router to the TV.

First, a little theory needed to connect your TV to the Internet via a router.

LAN connectors, built-in Wi-Fi adapters, and new multimedia capabilities have made it possible to create a local network at home and transfer files and streaming video without downloading. However, it is obvious that no matter how “smart” the TV is, it cannot connect to the Internet on its own, since it does not have built-in L2TP or PPPoE clients to receive the corresponding network protocols.

A router is a router through which the home network data packet is redirected, which allows you to combine all existing devices and provide access to external packets, that is, to the Internet. In other words, it helps to competently manage your home network. It can also become a Wi-Fi point.

Connecting cables to the router (Back view).

A TV, unlike a router, does not have such functions. It can only act as a separate device within a home network and to connect to it you need an internal or external Wi-Fi module or a connection cable.

Thus, there are two options for connecting the router to the TV to access the Internet:

  • via TV router via cable;
  • via Wi-Fi.

Let's figure out step by step how to connect a TV through a router to the Internet in each of these cases. Let's start with the first one - via cable. When connecting via cable, the following scheme is used:

TV connection diagram via cable.

To connect the TV to the Internet via a router, it must have a free LAN port, since the TV is connected to the router via a UTP modification cable. As a network connector, you can buy a simple Cat 5 patch cord:

Cat 5 patchcord.

One end of it is inserted into the LAN port on the router, the other into the corresponding Ethernet port on the TV.

This method has a certain disadvantage, since sometimes you have to pull the cable throughout the room. An excellent way out would be two PowerLine adapters (PLC), then the signals will be transmitted via the electrical network. Another option is to give preference to television via a wifi router.

Setting up a connection to a TV

Let us immediately note that connecting popular TV models to the network, for example, Samsung, Panasonic or others, is carried out according to the same scheme:

The system may display an “Error” message, then the configuration is performed manually. To do this, find the “Network Status” item in the menu, then select “IP Settings” and enter the login information received from the provider or technical support.

You can close the settings and check for Internet access, for example, launch a YouTube widget or open any browser.

Connecting TV via WiFi

A router with WiFi support must comply with the protocols Internet connections provided by the provider. For example, in the case of dynamic IP, the router must support the DHCP protocol. Only in this case will the TV be automatically assigned an IP address, DNS, etc. Can you imagine what it will be like to enter them manually every time you change IP.

Today, the most popular routers are from manufacturers such as D-Link or Asus, etc.

In this case, in addition to the wifi router, you need an additional device - a wifi adapter. New TV models already have it. But even if your TV model does not have a built-in adapter, there is no need to make a problem out of this - everything is solved very simply: you can buy it separately. An external access point will serve as well as a built-in device. Such a device can be bought at any store that sells computer equipment, and for a very reasonable amount.

Adapter selection

A prerequisite when purchasing a WiFi adapter is that it must be original. In other words, it must be produced by the same manufacturer as the TV, say, Samsung produces WiFi adapters for its TVs. The instructions for the TV, as a rule, contain all its specifications. For example, an external Wi-Fi adapter is suitable for Samsung LED TVs, which supports the EEE communication protocol with data exchange via Wi-Fi I802.11a/b/g/n. It is connected to a USB port located on the TV panel.

Example: Samsung USB wifi adapter.

Settings

Setting up WiFi connection

Setup begins by selecting TV settings. Perform the chain of actions: “Menu” → “Network” and then “Network settings”. Then, from the drop-down menu, select the wireless connection type and then from the list that opens your Wi-Fi network, click “Continue”.

Typically, the connection to the network occurs automatically, so you need to wait a little.

If, however, a message does not appear on the screen that the connection settings have been completed, it means that automatic retrieval of network parameters failed. The setup will have to be done manually through “IP Settings”, but by selecting manual mode. Enter the network data in the appropriate fields and wait for the connection to be checked.

If your devices support WPS technology, the connection is even simplified: both on the router and in the TV Network Settings Wizard menu, select the “WPS” item.

There are router models that support other technologies, for example, One Foot Connection or Plug&Access. For them, the connection procedure becomes trivially simple:

  • One Foot Connection. Select this particular type of connection and, clicking “Continue,” install the router near the TV, no further than 25 cm, and wait until the connection is established.
  • Plug&Access. The formatted flash drive is inserted into the router. When the indicator stops blinking, it is removed and inserted into the TV.

As you can see, connecting the router to the TV yourself is not difficult at all.

And now, for greater clarity, we present to your attention a short instruction on how to connect a TV to a router via wifi using the example of Samsung Smart TV.

Connecting a Samsung TV

First of all, you need to choose and connect the wifi router correctly.

Samsung has begun producing special routers that have automatic bandwidth settings. Such routers are able to independently select the widest possible channel for the streaming video signal that comes from the Internet. If you decide to purchase just this one, please Special attention on specifications. The router only works with those TV models that are included in the range of the specified series.

A sample diagram for connecting a TV through a Wi-Fi device - a router with an adapter inserted into the USB port is shown below.

Sample diagram for connecting a TV via Wi-Fi - a router with an adapter inserted into a USB port.

Setting up the router

Setting up a wifi router for Smart TV is no more difficult than setting up a regular router.

  1. To begin with, connect the router to the computer using a patch cord and set IP receiving to automatic in the home network connection settings.
  2. The patch cord from the computer is connected to one of the Ethernet inputs, and the Internet cable, accordingly, is connected to the Internet.
  3. Type the address 192.168.0.1 into the browser, go to it and configure the router to work in the home local network and with an external Internet network.

Connecting a TV

  1. A remote control is required to set up the connection. The “Menu” button is activated on it;
  2. Next, go to the “Network” item, select “Network Settings”, then press “Enter”;
  3. Go to the “Wireless” item.

  4. All detected networks are displayed on the screen in a list, from which you select yours and click on “Next”.

    Selecting an access point on TV

  5. If the wireless local network is password protected, an empty window with a keyboard for entering data should open.

    The cursor is controlled using the arrows on the remote control. You can also connect a keyboard or just a computer mouse via USB. Undoubtedly, it will be much more convenient.

  6. The connection should then begin to be established. If the connection is still not established, you need to go to the IP settings, then reconfirm the request to obtain an address automatically.

  7. If, in order to maintain the security of the local network, it is configured to assign an IP address manually or in the case where the router does not have a DCHP server function, the TV is assigned its own address in the router, and then it is configured on the TV itself, as already described higher.

There is a “WP” item in the TV’s network settings menu. With its help, connection setup is performed automatically if such a function is supported by the router. This is easy to check: the same button should be on the router.

If there is one, select the corresponding item on the TV, press the “WP” button on the router and hold it for literally 10, at most 15 seconds. This is enough to automatically configure the connection.

Using Samsung router You can use the One Foot Connection option.

You need to go to the appropriate menu item and wait for the connection.

The fact is that a few days ago I purchased a Samsung 6 series 3D Full HD UE40ES6307 LED TV with Smart TV function, which mandatory needed an internet connection. Why? Yes, because more than three hundred applications have already been developed for the new Smart TV function, such as watching movies in high quality(HD 1080p), a web browser for “walking” the Internet, games, convenient services and training programs, news, music, photos, fitness, online stores, etc.

I will tell you about all the advantages of the Smart TV function in my review in the near future. Don't miss the release of new articles on the site - subscribe to my newsletter.

In this regard, I am opening a new section on the site called “Internet, Television”, where the first article will be instructions on how to connect a TV to the Internet. Naturally, this article will focus on connecting a Samsung TV to the Internet. There is no particular difference between the models, and after reading this manual, you can connect any TV trademark to the Internet.

There are 2 ways in total:

  • wireless using WiFi technology
  • wired with cable

Let's look at each method in more detail.

How to connect the Internet to a Samsung TV using WiFi

I will connect my purchased TV to the Internet using wireless communication WiFi, because It already has a built-in WiFi module.

If your TV does not have a built-in WiFi module (see the manual), then for this you need to purchase an external WiFi adapter that supports the IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n communication protocol, which is connected to a free USB port on the TV.

Attention!!! Adapters from all manufacturers are not suitable for Samsung LED TVs, but only from Samsung, for example:

To connect the TV to the Internet via WiFi wireless connection, we need to purchase a router, or in other words, a WiFi-enabled router. Before purchasing a router, be sure to consult with your provider's technical support.

For example, if your Internet connection is dynamic ( dynamic IP address), then the router must support DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) so that the TV is automatically assigned an IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS and does not have to be entered manually each time.

Then we move on to the most difficult part - setting up the router. Until this day, I had not encountered this personally, so I carefully began to study this process according to the instructions included with the router. Everything there was written in Russian and in “understandable” language.

I spent almost the whole day studying the instructions and was just about to start implementing the knowledge I had gained, when one of my friends told me that the router was configured by our network provider and completely free of charge. I couldn’t refuse such a pleasure and safely took the router into the hands of specialists. It will be more reliable this way.

We set it up on a first-come, first-served basis for about two days. After setting it up, I was given the following on a piece of paper:

  • WiFi network name: tss_kt
  • password (key) for WiFi access: *************

We disconnect the cable of the dedicated Internet line from the computer and connect it to the “Internet” connector of our router.

Also, do not forget to supply power to the router.

After this point, you can start setting up wireless WiFi on your TV. But first, we will set up an Internet connection on the computer.

The router comes with an RJ45 patch cord cable, although it is only about 50 (cm) long.

We connect one end of the RJ45 patch cord cable to any LAN port of the router (I connected it to LAN 1), and the other end to the computer’s network card.

I forgot to say that when I received the router after setting it up at the provider’s office, they printed out instructions on how to set up an Internet connection on my computer.

Having completed the above operations for my version of Windows, the Internet on the computer started working. Now, with a clear conscience, let’s return to setting up and connecting the Internet on the TV using WiFi.

Press the “MENU” button on the Samsung TV remote control and use the buttons to select the “Network” tab in the list.

Then go to the “Network Settings” tab. A window like this appears.

I would like to note that the Samsung TV has very convenient navigation and hints.

Click “Start” and the TV will give us all available WiFi networks found.

Choosing your network " tss_kt"And use the control panel to enter the password (key) for WiFi access received from the provider.

The network check will begin and the following message will appear on the screen:

OK it's all over Now. Our TV is connected to the Internet.

If your WiFi network is not detected during the automatic search, then it’s okay. Using the remote control, select “Add network” and enter the name and password (key) of the WiFi network received from the provider.

All of the above in this section can be depicted schematically:

How to connect your TV to the Internet using a cable

This method of connecting the Internet to a TV is even simpler. It can be divided into 2 ways:

  • direct switching
  • via router (router)

1. How to connect the TV to the Internet directly (direct connection)

This method is not entirely rational, but it still needs to be mentioned. Let's assume that a dedicated Internet line cable comes into our apartment.

We connect it directly to the TV into the “LAN” connector (rear panel).

In this case, the Internet will only work on the TV. We don't need this method, because... We use the Internet not only on the TV, but also on the yf computer, so let’s move on to the second method of cable connection.

2. How to connect your TV to the Internet via a router (router)

Everything is done in the same way as when setting up a WiFi network through a router. Only in our example, an RJ45 patch cord cable was connected to the computer in the “LAN-1” connector. Now we connect the RJ45 patch cord cable to the “LAN-2” connector and lay it to the TV, which we connect to the “LAN” connector on its rear panel.

By the way, in this case the router may not support WiFi.

Schematically it looks like this:

After the connections have been made, go to “MENU”.

Press “ENTER” and the window opens:

Click “Start”. If everything was done correctly, the following message will appear on the screen: “The connection to a wired network and the Internet is configured and ready for further use.”

If your network is not identified during the automatic search, then it’s okay. Go to “MENU”, select “Network Status” and go to the “IP Settings” tab.

In this window, we need to enter the parameters “IP Settings” and “DNS Settings” manually (get the data from the technical service of your provider):

  • IP address
  • Subnet mask
  • DNS server

Click "OK". If everything was done correctly, the following message will appear on the screen: “The connection to a wired network and the Internet is configured and ready for further use.”

This is where I’ll probably finish the article on how to connect a TV to the Internet. Choose more for yourself convenient way connections. Personally, I connected the internet to my Samsung TV using WiFi. I didn’t have to install additional cables to the TV, which made the connection process much easier. The speed of the Internet connection suits me quite well, HD quality movies are downloaded without problems.

All that remains is to protect your purchase from and sleep peacefully.

P.S. How did you connect your TV to the Internet?

Or a modem and a wireless network adapter connected to the USB connector of the TV receiver.

You can purchase what you need separately at retail trade, online stores. The devices support IEEE 802.11A/B/G and N protocols. Manufacturers recommend the latter protocol. When using B or G, whose speed is much lower, playback may be accompanied by jerks.

Preliminary remarks

To connect to the network, the TV must communicate with a Wi-Fi access device (modem, router). If it supports the DHCP protocol, then a static IP address and DHCP can be used to connect to Smart TV.

You must select an unused one. If the frequency is occupied by another nearby device, this will cause interference and loss of connection.

The use of security systems other than those listed below is not supported.

According to the new Wi-Fi certificate specifications, modern TVs do not support 802.11N high-bandwidth mode and WEP, TKIP or TKIPAES encryption type.

If WPS is available, the network connection is made by pressing the PBC button or by entering a PIN code. The SSID and WPA key will be configured automatically.

Unless certified, the device cannot be connected to a television receiver.

Wi-Fi connection can be made in the following ways:

  • auto-configuration for devices not manufactured by the TV receiver manufacturer;
  • PBC (WPS);
  • auto-tuning using automatic network search;
  • manual installation;
  • SWL for Samsung devices.

The Wi-Fi adapter may not be recognized or work properly when connected to a third-party hub or USB cable.

Removing Interference

When connected via Wi-Fi, some channels may experience image distortion. This can be resolved by placing the adapter in a location free from interference:

  • via corner USB connection;
  • using an extension cord.

In the latter case, the wireless network adapter must be installed in an area where there is no interference from the tuner. Connect to it and to the port. Secure it in the upper rear part of the TV receiver case with double-sided tape.

How to connect a TV to Wi-Fi using auto-configuration

Samsung's auto-configuration feature allows you to pair your TV receiver with third-party wireless access points. If they do not support this function, then the connection must be made using PBC (WPS), automatic or manual configuration.

Before connecting your TV to Wi-Fi, you need to turn off SWL.

You can check whether your device supports Plug and Play at www.samsung.com.

Setup using automatic configuration

  1. Place an access point (AP) and a TV nearby and turn them on. Since download times may vary, you may need to wait about two minutes. Before connecting your TV to your Wi-Fi router, you need to make sure that network cable connected to the router port. Otherwise, auto-configuration will only verify communication with the access point, and there will be no confirmation of Internet connection.
  2. After a few minutes, connect the adapter to the TV. After this, a pop-up window will appear.
  3. After connecting, you should place the router in parallel no further than 25 cm from it.
  4. You need to wait until the automatic connection occurs. Otherwise, a window indicating a malfunction will appear on the screen. To try again, you need to reboot the router, disconnect the adapter, and start again from step 1. You can also choose another connection method: auto, manual or PBC.
  5. Place AP in in the right place. If its parameters have changed, or a new access point is being configured, the steps must be repeated from the beginning.

How to connect a TV to Wi-Fi via PBC

If the access point has a PBC button, the procedure is as follows:

  1. Connect the TV receiver to the Wi-Fi adapter.
  2. Turn it on, press MENU on the remote control, use the ▲ and ▼ buttons to go to the “Settings” section.
  3. Select the “Network” menu item.
  4. Enter the type “Wireless”.
  5. Open the “Network Settings” menu item.
  6. Press the red button on the remote control.
  7. Within 2 min. hold down the PBC button on the access point. The television receiver will automatically receive the required settings and a network connection will take place.
  8. To exit, press the RETURN button.

Automatic network setup

Wi-Fi networks have an additional security system that requires connected devices to transmit an access code. This is the password (a word or a series of letters and numbers) entered during connection security setup. Using AutoConfig requires entering a password during the installation process.

To automatically install Wi-Fi Internet, you must:

  1. Follow steps 1 to 5 of the procedure for connecting to a network using PBC.
  2. Press the ▼ button to open the “Internet Protocol Settings” item, and then press ENTER. Go to “Auto” and confirm the entry.
  3. Go to “Select Network” and press ENTER. Searches for available Wi-Fi networks. Once completed, a list of them will be displayed.
  4. In the list, using the navigation buttons, select the desired network and press ENTER. If the router is hidden (invisible), then you need to open the “Add network” menu item and write down the name and password.
  5. When the Security/PIN window pops up, proceed to step 6. When the connection screen appears, proceed to step 10.
  6. Select "Security" or "PIN". For most home networks, the first option is suitable. The security screen appears.
  7. Enter your password. It must match the code entered with the modem.
  8. To do this you need to know the following:
    • numbers are entered using the numeric buttons on the remote control;
    • movement around the screen is carried out using navigation buttons;
    • the red button changes the register of the on-screen keyboard;
    • entering a letter or symbol is confirmed by pressing ENTER;
    • The last character is deleted using the green button on the remote control.
  9. When finished, press the blue button.
  10. You need to wait for the connection confirmation message to appear and press enter. The setup screen will appear again.
  11. To check the connection, select “Network Test”.

Direct connection

Possible contact with mobile device without the mediation of a router. This feature becomes available when SWL is disabled.

  • Direct connection to a new device
  1. Follow steps 1 to 6 in the setup section using PBC (WPS).
  2. Call up a list of devices and networks through the “Select network” menu item.
  3. Press the blue button on the remote control.
  4. The message “Wi-Fi direct connection to mobile phone or computer. The network may have limited functionality. Do you want to change your network connection?
  5. Enter the SSID and security key on the connected access point.
  • Direct connection to an existing device
  1. You need to complete steps 1 to 6 to configure using PBC (WPS).
  2. Open the list through the “Select network” menu item.
  3. Enter the desired device.
  4. If a security key is required, write it down. If the network is not working properly, you should check your login and PIN code. An incorrect key may cause the device to not function properly.

Network settings

If other methods do not work, you must enter the network settings manually. You must first obtain connection information. To do this, on a computer running Windows OS, perform the following actions:

  • Right-click on the network icon at the bottom right of the screen.
  • Select “Status” from the pop-up menu.
  • Go to the “Support” tab.
  • After clicking the Details button, the network settings will be displayed.

Manual network setup

To enter network connection values manually, you must perform the following operations:

  1. Perform setup steps 1 to 5 using PBC (WPS).
  2. Select “Internet Protocol Settings” and “Manually”.
  3. Go to the input field.
  4. Enter the IP address using the number buttons on the remote control.
  5. To move to the next field, press either the other arrow buttons to navigate down, up, or back.
  6. Enter the subnet and gateway mask.
  7. Go to the DNS input field. Enter the numbers as indicated above.
  8. When finished, press ▲ to select the network.
  9. After this press ENTER.
  10. Proceed to Automatic Setup Step 4 and follow further instructions.

SWL connection

This function makes it possible to connect modern TVs to an access point that supports PBC. It is possible to establish a connection without a Wi-Fi router.

Before connecting your TV to Wi-Fi, the access point must already be connected to the wireless network.

Normal operation of the adapter is only possible with USB port 1. Devices using the 2.4 GHz frequency are supported. 5 GHz frequency is not applicable.

Direct connection of the TV receiver to a PBC-enabled device is possible when SWL is set to "On" and the Wi-Fi adapter is inserted

To connect using SWL you need to do the following:

  1. Perform setup steps 1-5 from PBC.
  2. Select SWL and press ENTER to enable it.
  3. Open "SWL Connection".
  4. If the message “Hold down the PBC button of the connected device for 120 seconds” appears, you must follow these steps. To get more detailed information please refer to the operating instructions.
  5. Once the TV is connected to the network, the countdown window will automatically close. If the connection cannot be established, try again after 2 minutes.

Possible problems

A Wi-Fi connection may fail if the provider registers a permanent MAC address of the device and verifies its authenticity each time to prevent unauthorized access. Since the MAC address of the TV is different, the provider refuses to provide services and the connection does not occur. To solve this problem, you should contact your provider and find out if you can connect Wi-Fi to your TV. If so, you will need to know what action to take.

If your provider asks for a login and password to establish an Internet connection, then before connecting the TV via Wi-Fi, you must enter the required data.

Problems may occur due to the firewall. If this is the case, then you need to contact your provider.

Sometimes resetting the TV helps. To do this, open the menu item "Support", "Self-diagnosis" and "Reset". After entering the PIN and agreeing to the terms of the license agreement, the factory settings will be restored.

If you cannot connect to Wi-Fi Internet even after fulfilling the service provider’s requirements, you should contact specialists for help.

If you have a good, expensive modern TV, then sooner or later you will want to use its capabilities to the maximum, and now almost all modern models are equipped with Internet connection support - for directly viewing network content and using network resources and services.

Accordingly, the question of how to connect a TV to the Internet is relevant for most users, and here we will look at examples and options for wirelessly connecting the Internet to a TV.

It does not matter how the wifi connection is distributed: directly by the router, , mobile usb modem, etc.

How to connect a smart TV to the Internet?

First of all, you need to make sure that the TV has a wifi module. If one is not provided, then do not despair: you can always buy an external wireless network adapter. There are many options, everything will depend on personal preferences, financial capabilities, and most importantly, technical compatibility with the TV.

When the technical ability to connect the TV to the Internet is ensured, all that remains is to connect the TV to this very network. Please note that the names of sections and parameters in the TV settings may vary - depending on the model and manufacturer - but there will be no significant differences.

So, to set up the Internet on your TV:

  1. 1. Turn on the TV and use the remote control (or the side control panel on the TV) to go to the “Menu” section;
  2. 2. Find the “Network” subsection in the menu that opens (“Network settings”, “Network settings”, etc.), run the “Network Setup Wizard” and wait until the initial settings are completed;

  1. 3. Once setup is complete, you will be presented with a list of possible network connections: Select “Wireless Network”, click “Next” or “OK”;
  2. 4. A search for available wifi networks will be carried out: select yours from the list (based on the name of the network) and connect to it by entering a password (security key), using the remote control and on-screen keyboard;

If the router and TV support, press the button of the same name on the router, and on the TV, when selecting a wireless network from the list, press “WPS (PBC)”, and the device will independently carry out all the necessary settings;

  1. 5. The TV will connect to the wifi network, and the settings can be considered complete. Check the functionality of your Internet connection (by opening any network resource) or in the settings, open the “Network Information” or “Network Information” section - the network parameters should be indicated there: “mac address”, “ip address”, etc. If the value of these parameters is “0”, then the network is not configured correctly: you need to make the settings again (possibly by entering them manually).

“I can’t connect the TV to the wifi router”: possible reasons

As can be seen from the previous instructions, setting up a TV connection to the Internet via wifi is not particularly difficult, but as with any connections, errors may occur here. Here are the main ways to solve this problem:

  • - reset the router settings to factory settings;
  • - update the router firmware (if this does not help, check that the TV firmware version is up to date);
  • - if the error occurs immediately after entering the security key, try changing the network security settings on the router.

In addition, you should not discount such a simple and largely banal solution to problems as rebooting the router or TV: in most problems that arise, it is a “banal reboot” that solves all connection difficulties.

How to connect a regular TV to the Internet?

Everything related to “Smart TV” was discussed above, but you can also connect a regular TV to the Internet. This can be done using so-called “Smart consoles”.
