1. Sew colored ribbon to the sling. To do this, set the sewing machine to sew coarse fabric and set the stitch length to 2 mm. To ensure that the seam is as close to the edge as possible, install the needle with right side. Sew the ribbon along the entire length on the right and left, as well as across the edges.

2. Attaching the fastener. Unfasten the clasp and thread one end of the sling through it. In this case, the end of the tape should be approximately 4-5 cm long. Then fold the end over and sew it to the ribbon, stitching in several rows. Then thread the free end of the ribbon through the half-ring, slide it as close to the clasp as possible, and stitch again across the webbing to secure the half-ring.

3. Finish sewing. Take the free end of the sling again and thread it through the plastic double-slot buckle, then through the second, not yet sewn, part of the fastener. After this, thread the sling through the buckle again, making a second loop under the first (see picture).

Take the end of the sling, bend it back and sew across it several times, thus securing the double-slit buckle. To make sewing easier, move the clasp back. Congratulations, you've finished!

Braided collar

You will need:

nylon cord;
plastic carabiner;
lighter;
scissors;
small key ring;
centimeter;
masking tape.

Fold the cord in half and thread it through the carabiner. Make a loop, pull the two loose ends of the cord through it and tighten. Take the collar you have and measure its circumference (or measure the length using a centimeter).

Measure the length of the cord equal to the circumference of the collar, and thread the two free ends through the second part of the carabiner, securing it with masking tape at the required distance (it is best to glue the carabiner to the table - this will make it easier for you to weave).

Begin weaving the collar following the instructions shown in the pictures.

Then pass the right lace under the two taut laces. Then take the left lace, pull it under the right, over the two laces, and then through the loop created by the right lace. Tighten the knot again.

After you have woven the collar to the end, cut off the excess ends of the lace and burn them so that they do not unravel. Don't forget to thread the key ring to which you will later attach the leash, a tag with the dog's name and your phone number.

Lesson #2: Braided Collar

You will need:

Master class No. 3: Leather collar

You will need:

a piece of leather;
knives for leather processing;
buckle and half ring;
awl;
decorative rivets.

1: Using a special knife, cut a piece of leather to the required width. To determine the required length, measure the circumference of your dog's neck and add another 25 cm. If necessary, you can always cut off an extra piece. On both ends leather strap trim the corners to create a finished look.

2: Use a bevel knife to trim the corners along the entire length of the collar. Repeat on both sides. Thereby leather collar will not rub. Use a color-matched water-based leather glue to seal the edges.

Tip: lubricate the collar with a special leather cream, gently rubbing it in with your hands. Then apply a layer beeswax and remove any residue with a soft towel.

3: Using the template, use an awl to mark the locations where the holes will be located for attaching metal decorations. Use a paring knife to remove some of the leather from the underside. This will make the collar lighter and softer.

4: Using awls of various diameters, make holes in the marked places - for decorations and for attaching the buckle tongue. At the same time, do not forget to add another piece of leather so as not to spoil the surface of the table. Use a scalpel to make a hole for attaching the buckle.

5: Thread the end of the collar through the buckle, bend it over and secure it. Then put on the half ring and fasten the free end of the leather strap. Decorate the collar with decorative rivets.

How to sew a leather collar for a dog with your own hands? This is not difficult, but the choice of materials and accessories should be treated with special care. This is especially important if you want to sew a collar for a large breed dog. The load that the collar must withstand will be large and the materials must be strong and reliable.

For the collar itself you will need a piece of thick leather, natural or artificial. Our collar is made of two parts: external part of the collar is made of thick genuine leather, and internal made of soft beige suede. You can also use leather for the inside, preferably vegetable tanned, to avoid possible staining of the dog's fur. The outer part of the collar can be made from several pieces, but the inner part must be cut from a single piece, without seams that can rub the animal's neck.

To make a collar you will need a buckle and a half ring to which the leash carabiner will be attached. If the buckle is one-sided, i.e. the tongue is located on the edge, you will need a loop to secure the edge of the collar. The belt loop can be sewn from a piece of the main material or a narrow metal frame can be installed, the length of which should correspond to the width of the buckle. If you use a buckle whose tongue is located in the middle, then the buckle itself will press the edge of the collar and an additional belt loop will not be needed.

Use only metal fittings, plastic may not withstand the load!

Please note that the half-ring for the carabiner can be either solid or bent from a thick metal rod, with the joining point on a flat edge. For a collar designed for small dogs you can use a bent half ring, but for dogs large breeds take a cast half ring, it is much more reliable.

You will also need transparent waterproof glue, a knife or cutter and special threads for leather.

In order to correctly construct a pattern, you need to know the length and width of the collar. You can take a size from a model you are already using, measure a suitable collar in a store, or find the right sizes on the Internet. All fastenings or seams should be covered by the inside of the collar so that they do not touch the dog's neck.

So, let's sew a leather dog collar with your own hands!

Pattern construction and cutting

Based on the required dimensions, create a collar pattern. The pattern is symmetrical, i.e. you can draw only one half. We offer a collar model with an extended middle part.

In our case, the total length of the collar is 40 cm, the width in the center CD is 6 cm, the width at the edges AB is 2 cm. CD is the fold line. The length of the wide part is approximately 15 cm.

Cut out two parts of the collar, inner and outer. The allowance around the perimeter of the outer part is 5-7 mm, and on one of the narrow edges an additional 2 cm. The inner part is cut out without allowances.

Trim the seam allowances at the corners of the outer collar piece as shown in the photo. Use a knife to remove upper layer from the wrong side of the seam allowances to make them thinner.

Apply glue to the allowances of the outer part and fold them to the wrong side. Press well.

Glue the inner part to the outer part, trim if necessary inner part so that the edge of the part does not peek out from the front side.

Sew along the very edge of the inner piece. Tie the threads in a double knot, thread them through the needle and pull them through the nearest stitch hole. Pull the needle out after 3-4 stitches and tighten the thread so that the knot goes inside the stitch. Cut the remaining threads close to the stitching.

Using a knife or a special punch, make a hole on one side of the collar, 2.5-3 cm from the edge. Place a fixing stitch along the edge of the hole, thread the threads as described earlier.

Place the half ring on the collar, then the loop and buckle.

Fold the edges over and sew it by hand. First, fix the fold after the belt loop, and then after the half ring, separating them from each other.

Sew the fold several times, tightening the thread well. Secure the thread with a double knot and thread as described earlier.

Punch several holes at the other end of the collar. The distance between the holes is 1-1.5 cm.

For our pet, we don’t mind spending just 15-20 minutes to make him the owner of a completely unique collar. And if you make several of them from braid different colors, then you can change the color of your shoes and be original for a pair.

DIY dog collar - master class

Let's start with preparing the materials. There are several options for what to make a dog collar from. In this case, we will take a textile sling as a basis. So, we will need:

sling 2.5 cm wide;
braid of any color 2.5 cm wide;
fastex fastener 2.5 cm;
half ring 2.5 cm;
thread and sewing machine.

This collar will turn out to be relatively wide, and if you have a puppy or a very tiny dog, you can use braid and sling of a smaller width, for example, 1-1.5 cm. If, on the contrary, the dog requires a more powerful and wide collar, for example, you want To make a collar for a shepherd with your own hands, take a wider braid and sling.

To determine the required collar length, the best option is to measure the circumference of the dog's neck and multiply it by 1.75.

Let's proceed directly to the process of making the collar. To do this, take a sling and braid, on sewing machine we attach them to each other. Remember to install a suitable needle and set it to sew on coarse fabric. The seam should be as close to the edge as possible. We sew the braid and sling along the entire length on both sides, as well as across the edges.

Now we need to install the fastener socket. To do this, unfasten it, thread one end of the sling through the nesting part by 4-5 cm and sew across the sling next to the fastener several times. Afterwards, we put a half ring on the sling with braid next to the attached fastener and again stitch it across several times.

Now we take the second end of the sling, thread it through the plastic double-slot and the second half of the fastener that has not yet been sewn, then again through the double-slot, making a loop over the first.

The last step is to secure the double-slot buckle. The most difficult moment. You need to take the end of the sling and place it over the sling in such a way as to lock the buckle in place. For free work With all this on the machine, you will probably have to remove part of it in order to gain access to the working needle. Also move the fastener so that it does not interfere with operation. Sew crosswise several times and secure the clasp. All that remains is to adjust the collar to your pet and present him with the finished, beautiful and original collar.

Determining the length

First, you need to measure your tailed friend's neck. Determine the place on your neck where the collar will hang and take the size. Add 3-4 cm so that the dog feels comfortable in the collar. To calculate the required amount of paracord for our work, multiply the measured size by 4. The girth of the dog’s neck in this example is 45 cm. Hence, two skeins of paracord were needed, each 1.8 m long. (45×4=180).

Let's start weaving

Fold the cords in half and thread each through the single-slot end of the buckle. Now take the ring and pass both cords through it, move it close to the buckle. Next, thread each pair of loose paracord ends through its loop and pull tight.

Clamp the buckle

Clamp the buckle in a vice on a stable surface, this will make it much more convenient to weave the collar with your own hands, because... The buckle will stay in place and you will be able to keep the cords taut.

Making a knot

Take the left pair of cords and make a loop around the right pair as shown in the photo. Take the right pair of cords and draw similar actions. We received a full cycle of our node.

We continue to weave

We continue to weave the collar until we reach a point that is 5 cm from the end. Pull the loose ends into the second part of the buckle and leave a couple of centimeters between the slot in the buckle and the knot.

Hiding the ends

Take two ends of different colors, wrap them around the free area that we left in the previous step and pass them from above into the loop that was formed. All that remains is to properly hide the ends, trim off the excess and cauterize it.
