Glasses are not only the main summer accessory, they protect our eyes from harmful radiation, reduce fatigue and harmoniously complement the image. If, of course, you choose them correctly.

website I decided to figure out how to choose glasses specifically for your face shape and how to distinguish good lenses from the bad ones. And at the end there is a bonus for you.

How to determine your face type

Take a washable marker, lipstick, soap or pencil. Stand in front of a mirror at arm's length. Without deviating, outline the contour of the face, starting from the chin and ending with the hairline. Take a step back and look at the resulting shape.

The goal is to visually lengthen the face, so choose dark-colored frames. They narrow the face and bring it closer to an oval. To balance your facial proportions, choose frames that are wider than they are tall.

Suitable for round shape faces:

  • Pointed, rectangular, square glasses.
  • "Cat" frames.
  • Butterfly glasses.
  • Glasses with a narrow bridge of the nose.
  • "Aviators".
  • "Wayfarers".

Not suitable for round face shape:

  • Round glasses.
  • Narrow frames.
  • Glasses with sharply defined corners.
  • Glasses in the form of geometric shapes.
  • Color contact lenses.
  • Eyebrow-covering glasses.

The main task is not to violate harmonious proportions faces, so avoid too massive glasses. It is better if the width of the frame is equal to the width of the face or slightly wider. Make sure that the top of the frame coincides with the eyebrow line.

Suitable for oval shape faces:

  • Frames of smooth shape: rectangular, oval, round.
  • Butterfly glasses
  • "Aviators".
  • "Cat" frames.

Not suitable for oval face shape:

  • Frames with sharp angles.
  • Frames are too massive.
  • Frames too wide.
  • Narrow frames.

Rectangular or square sharp shapes will overload the face. Rounded frames will help visually balance and soften the proportions of the face.

Suitable for square shape faces:

  • Big glasses.
  • Glasses with frame widths equal to the width of your face.
  • Glasses with colored frames.
  • Oval, round, drop-shaped frames.
  • Rimless glasses.
  • "Cat" frames.
  • "Aviators".

Not suitable for square face shape:

  • Square frames with sharp corners.
  • Small, narrow and petite.
  • Glasses with frames wider than the face.

You should visually expand your face. Choose large, chunky glasses. Transparent glasses- with thin frames to match your skin tone.

Suitable for rectangular shape faces:

  • Large frames.
  • "Aviators" (with large frames).
  • Round frames.

Not suitable for rectangular face shape:

  • Narrow frames.
  • Small frames.
  • Bright colored frames.

The task is to balance top part face, making the lower one heavier. Massive ones will make the top even heavier, we don’t need that. Choose glasses whose width is equal to the width of your face, preferably teardrop-shaped. Aviators are perfect.

Suitable for heart-shaped faces:

  • Rounded, round glasses.
  • Small frames with a narrow bridge.
  • Low set temples.
  • "Aviators".
  • "Wayfarers".
  • Rimless glasses.
  • Light and neutral color of glasses.

Not suitable for heart-shaped faces:

  • Heavy and large frames.
  • Acute forms.
  • Eyebrow-covering glasses.
  • Butterfly glasses, drop glasses.
  • "Cat" frames.
  • Frames with bright colors.

The main task is to expand the upper part of the face and divert attention from the lower part. Choose glasses with large frames and wide top part. The bottom of the glasses should not be square, sharp or have a clear line.

Suitable for triangular shape faces:

  • Round glasses without bright decorations.
  • "Aviators".
  • “Cat” frames with light glass.
  • Rimless glasses.

Not suitable for triangular face shape:

  • “Cat” frames with dark glass.
  • Square, rectangular frames.
  • Narrow and small frames.
  • Glasses with a square or pointed bottom.

Bonus: checking glasses for UV protection

Take a UV flashlight and shine it through the lens of your glasses at any fluorescent object. This could be a pen cap, headphones, a felt-tip pen or stickers. How better glasses filter out ultraviolet radiation, the less the object will glow.

Checking glasses for polarization

Polarized lenses filter out reflected light, reduce glare and reduce eye fatigue. It is very easy to identify glasses with a polarizing filter. Look at the surface with reflections. If the glasses have a filter, the glare will disappear.

If you turn the glasses, at a certain angle the glare will disappear and appear again.

Greetings, reader!
I present to your attention a review of the universal sun protection pad for glasses.

Life myopic person Siberia is full of insidious surprises and surprises.
It's summer, so let's look at summer tricks.

Actually, the problem is basically one...

Often, while driving, neither a sun visor nor… a sun visor can help. Having inquired about the cost of optics sun lenses with diopters, I'm a little depressed.

The price tag was quite high.
Of course, as an option, you can wear regular ones, Sunglasses(as I sometimes do) in combination with lenses. But it is not always convenient and accessible. Besides, I don't really like lenses, to be honest.

So I noticed this overlay on regular glasses. I remember once, in the early nineties, my father had similar ones. I ordered a couple for myself, classic and aviator. The classic arrived faster, so I’ll write about it. The parcel arrived for almost a month. Ordered 06/10/15, received in Barnaul 07/09/15

Needle in the egg, egg in the duck, duck in the hare, THE HARE IS SHOCKED!
In a bubble bag there is a plastic bag containing a case containing the subject.
No one is interested in a yellow bubble bag. He was almost instantly swallowed up by the urn. The plastic bag is also not something to admire.
The case for the subject looks like this.

And here is the pad itself, I’ll call it for convenience, device

The mounting device for this device has a slightly monstrous appearance, rising above the bridge of the nose.
But
We don't chase style, functionality is important to us

This is what my glasses look like

Let's try the device on glasses o_o

Here you can see that part of the lens is not blocked from below. But this is an insignificant point.

Standard view

I need your clothes and motorcycle

If you need to improve your visibility, for example in a dark room, you don’t have to remove the device from your glasses. You can, for example, bend them at an angle of 90 degrees, like a visor. The view is funny...

... or even bend it 180 degrees

For what? The devil knows, there’s probably no need, but there’s such a possibility!

The device passed the simplest polarization test. When you look through it at the smartphone screen, the colors are distorted; when you turn the device 90 degrees, the picture on the smartphone completely fades.

The device was purchased at affordable price, "for testing." Overall, everything is fine. The “aviators” coming to me have fastening devices that are much more aesthetically pleasing and do not stick out so high.

Thank you for your attention!

PS: Dear readers. Thanks for the advice and warnings, but...
As I indicated above, I have contact lenses (on different cases life). I have normal sunglasses.
I don't suffer or suffer. Buying this device is conscious choice, based on a combination of factors present to one degree or another in my life.
I don't intend to do laser correction vision, for a number of reasons that are of no interest to anyone but me.
I performed the only currently available test for the presence of polarization in front of the monitor, the pad showed the same effect as ordinary sunglasses. I can’t tell you for sure about UV400, please tell me how to check? I will be grateful.
The price for lenses for glasses with a darkening effect, or simply dark lenses combined with all their parameters (astigmatics and other differences) has made them inaccessible to me for now. I have good lenses in my everyday glasses, that's enough.
The device does not create additional load on the bridge of the nose. He is almost weightless.
The second device ordered has much more modest mounting hardware and larger size, covering the entire lens regular glasses. If I like it more, I’ll order more yellow ones for evening and night driving. Gov Gore-xenon, headlights that are not adjusted according to regulations and agro-tuning of fog lights/dRLs shining in all directions is sometimes very annoying when driving in dark time days.

I'm planning to buy +18 Add to favorites I liked the review +36 +68

Sunglasses are not only a stylish accessory, but also an important wardrobe item that will save your eyes from UV rays. What qualities should such glasses have?

The first thing you need to pay attention to when purchasing is protection from UVA (wavelengths 320-400 nm) and UVB (wavelengths 290-320 nm). This information must be indicated on the glasses label. Two options are allowed: “UVA and UVB protection” or “UVA 400 protection”.

Do not buy glasses from unverified places. The sellers there will not be able to guarantee you protection. But don't rush to overpay for glasses popular brands: Even the most budget accessories have UVA and UVB protection.

The color of the lenses is of particular importance. The darkness must be at least 75%. It is best to choose yellow and orange lenses. Blue and purple are a dubious option. According to ophthalmologists, lenses of this color provide less protection. But it is worth noting that the fluctuations in indicators are not that great. Therefore, if you absolutely do not like warm glass sunny shades, feel free to take a different color.

By the way, if you wear contact lenses, then we can please you: most of them already include UVA and UVB filters.

Here are some more tips that will help you when choosing glasses.

  • For driving, buy glasses with plastic lenses. In the event of an accident, they are less dangerous.
  • Photochromic accessories are a great option for those who wear corrective glasses all the time. The lenses darken when exposed to sunlight. That's why you wear regular glasses indoors and sunglasses in the sun.
  • Buy a special cloth for cleaning glass - do not use the edge of a T-shirt for this.

Do you wear sunglasses? Repost - share the article with your friends!

I became concerned about protecting my eyes from harsh high-altitude ultraviolet radiation in the Himalayas back in the spring. The problem is that I wear prescription glasses all the time. I had to read a bunch of thematic forums before I finally made my choice. And there was plenty to choose from. I tried to collect all the options for eye protection from the sun for people with glasses.

1. Contact lenses and regular sunglasses

Pros:

  • You feel more comfortable with lenses than with glasses. And you can buy any UV400 glasses, even the most inexpensive ones (500-700 rubles). You can buy a set of ephemera for 1,500 rubles and not have to worry about liquids. I put it on in the morning and threw it away in the evening. 30 pieces is enough for a month.

Minuses:

  • If you have never worn lenses before (like me), then they can become a bit of a problem.

  • Eyes in lenses dry out, especially on high altitudes- You need to have eye drops with you.

  • The liquid in which the lenses are located can freeze at sub-zero temperatures and therefore they should always be kept close to the body.

2. Your glasses and ski mask on top

Pros:

Minuses:

  • Finding a special mask for people with glasses is not so easy.

  • In any case, the mask will touch the glasses and cause inconvenience, pulling them off the right place On the nose.

  • The glasses under the mask may start to sweat.

True, there is also an option with diopter inserts in the mask and it seems to me quite successful.

3. Your own glasses and regular sunglasses on top

Pros:

  • Just as you were wearing your favorite glasses, you will remain wearing them.

Minuses:

  • A pyramid of glasses on your nose is another pleasure.

  • In any case, sunglasses will not fit tightly to your face and there is a risk of “exposing” your eyes to side rays and rays reflected from the snow.

4. Ordinary sunglasses with custom-made diopter lenses with UV coating or photochromes (“chameleon”) inserted into the optics.

Pros:

  • It would be the coolest option, if not for the minus.

Minuses:

  • One and the most important is the difficulty of making special sports lenses.

Few people undertake to make them. To understand the problem, consider the position of the lenses in regular and sports glasses.

Fig.1. Regular glasses.

Fig.2. Sports glasses.

In Fig. 1 it can be seen that in ordinary glasses the line of sight and the optical axis of the lenses pass through the center of the lenses and are located perpendicular to the surfaces forming the lens. When sports glasses(Fig. 2) the surfaces of the lenses are inclined at a certain angle, depending on the angle of curvature of the frame, while the optical axis and line of sight do not coincide. The angle of curvature of sports frames can reach 25 degrees, while for medical frames the standard value is 4 degrees. The greater the angle of curvature of the sports frame, the greater the rotation of the lenses relative to the eyes that occurs in the glasses and the greater the curvature of the lenses will be required to correctly install them in the frame.

If you insert regular lenses into a sports frame, you will not be able to wear such glasses for a long time - you will feel that you cannot put your eyes together. In general, not a single optician in Ulyanovsk agreed to make such glasses for me.

5. “Straight” sunglasses with leather curtains

A cool option that is actively discussed on the forums. Standard: numerous models of the company Julbo.

There is only one minus: the price. For the glasses themselves without diopters you will pay from 6,000 rubles, plus about 4,000 rubles for inserting lenses with diopters. But, if you plan to use them more than once, this is a worthy option.

6. Welder glasses

The option of inexpensive welder's glasses with inserted photochromic diopter lenses is often discussed on forums.

Pros:

  • They run tightly around their face, closing their eyes from rays from any direction.

  • Have ventilation, preventing glass fogging

I decided to try this option. Bought for 600 rubles plastic glasses with dark green lenses, I gave them to the optician and there they inserted round plastic ones for me for 4000 rubles photochromic lenses with maximum UV protection (blocks 80% of rays). Such a high price is explained by the fact that these are the minimum glass thicknesses with my diopters. Thicker glass simply would not fit into the mounting sockets of the glasses and the fixing black cover would not “catch” the thread.

The disadvantages of this option surfaced when receiving points. Because of the flexible bridge, the glasses bent and caught the effect that I described in paragraph 4. It was impossible to look at the world for a long time in such glasses. I had to be smart to minimize the angle of curvature of the frames by placing a piece of foam rubber where they adjoin the temples. Now it seems to be tolerable. Let's see.

7. Clip-ons for glasses

Almost a week before this post, I learned about “clip-ons” - special covers for regular glasses. The clip-on is attached to the glasses using a clip and allows the dark glasses to tilt up if necessary.

Pros:

  • Ease of use and versatility

  • Low price (500 rubles)

Minuses:

  • Glasses still do not protect against side rays.

I ordered clip-ons so that I would have an option for the hot tropical climate of Nepal. It would be unwise to start a route wearing welding glasses in 30-degree heat. Besides, I won't scare many people on the track by wearing them.

These clip-ons have a polarizing effect and I will be happy to use them in ordinary life. For example, driving a car.

Summer is ahead. Sun, beach. Need to know how to choose Sunglasses.Although the beach season is still far away, the sun is already breaking through the thick clouds with its first timid, but nevertheless bright rays. And no matter what anyone says, you need to protect your eyes from the sun. Stop! Don't look for protection in the subway or market tent. That is, of course, you can hide from the sun there, but finding normal glasses that protect from harmful radiation is unlikely. There is a scientific explanation for this.

Everyone knows that glass (even transparent window glass) does not transmit ultraviolet radiation. With plastic the situation is completely different. Until recently, it was believed that it provides almost no protection to the eyes. That’s exactly how it was. But science did not stand still and a special coating was invented. As a result, light, comfortable, almost unbreakable glasses have become useful.

Unfortunately, it is completely in vain to look for this miracle in markets or metro stations. What hawkers offer us, as a rule, cannot truly protect against ultraviolet radiation. However, I'm wrong. Cute multi-colored pseudo-glasses save you from bright light... an electric light bulb. So, if you are fascinated by the sight of a red-hot tungsten coil, please take advantage of it. But no, no, no going outside.

Reducing the brightness of light, darkened plastic does not at all interfere with the passage of hard ultraviolet radiation. The deceived pupils dilate and let in much more dangerous rays than if you were without glasses at all. Therefore, it is much safer to buy eye clothing in optical stores. There, by the way, there should also be special equipment to check the protective ability of the lenses.

The right glasses also vary. According to their purpose, they are divided into three groups: comfortable, protective and special.

Comfortable ones are those that are needed for every day. It is best if the lenses are made of CR-39 plastic. Shading should not exceed 50%. You can use photochromic lenses, popularly called “chameleons”. They change the degree of their shading depending on the weather and time of day. Gradient colored ones are also suitable: transparent at the bottom and dark at the top. As for colors, it is better to rely on tradition. Dark grey, brown or greenish glass is just what you need. Pinks and golden yellows are good for a cloudy day. But wearing blue or light blue is generally undesirable. These colors help dilate the pupils and make the lenses vulnerable.

As summer approaches, the question of purchasing sunglasses. This small accessory can not only provide you with protection from ultraviolet rays, but also add originality and sophistication to your style. And that’s why it’s better to choose glasses not at the counter, where you’re simply lost in their variety. We will try to tell you more about sunglasses, about what you may not have known until now.

Sunglasses Material

Material should be the primary criterion when choosing sunglasses because... health where more important than style or image. Glasses not only help protect your eyes from bright sunlight, but also block ultraviolet radiation (only glasses with glass lenses).
I would like to say right away that it is too small glasses(whether glass or plastic), although they will look stylish, will be a poor assistant in sun protection.

Traditionally, glass lenses are considered better: they not only provide good protection from ultraviolet radiation, but also the world will be less distorted than in plastic ones. In addition, glass is more scratch resistant. But the disadvantage of glass glasses, of course, is their fragility, and they are heavier than plastic ones. Such glasses are not recommended for athletes, and especially children. There is a possibility that the glass will break and, if the circumstances go wrong, can damage your eyes.
High-quality plastic can be a good alternative for your glasses. To protect against harmful radiation during manufacturing, special additives are introduced into the plastic composition, and special coatings are applied to the finished lenses. Sunglasses made from this material are lighter and more practical. An unpleasant moment There may only be distortion of objects, but you can evaluate this quality directly by trying on glasses: straight lines should remain that way.

When choosing glasses (with glass lenses), you should pay attention to the markings of the glasses. “UV-A” and “UV-B” (ultraviolet) show, as a percentage, the degree of protection against ultraviolet rays, with type “B” being considered the most harmful. You can also see the designation “400 nm”, which indicates the maximum wavelength from which the glasses protect. If the number is less than four hundred, it means that some of the rays are still missed.
