June 19, 2010 at the First Moscow State Medical University named after. I.M. Sechenov opened a pediatric faculty (Order No. R-254 dated June 18, 2010). On September 1, 2010, 26 first-year students of the newly created faculty began classes. The first graduation took place in 2016. Currently, about 1,365 1st-6th year students are studying at the faculty (626 - at the expense of budgetary allocations, including in the target area - 170, 739 under contracts for the provision of paid educational services)
The purpose of creating the faculty - ensuring continuous professional education of pediatricians for practical healthcare.

From 2005 to 2010, the main focus of the faculty’s work was improving the qualifications of pediatricians. Since 2010, all departments of the faculty have been gradually involved in the educational process in the higher education system. Currently, all departments of the faculty teach disciplines for students of 1-6 years. Work with students is carried out not only during class time, but also in student scientific circles, schools of excellence, which are organized in departments of the faculty. The most popular among them: a pediatrics club based in the Department of Pediatrics and Pediatric Rheumatology, a pediatric surgery club, a propaedeutics club for childhood diseases, a neonatology club, a school of excellence in pediatrics and pediatric surgery. Students involved in clubs regularly make presentations at scientific conferences, including abroad. For the first time in the history of the faculty, participants in the pediatric surgery group became winners of the annual All-Russian Student Scientific Conference on pediatric surgery.

Objectives of the faculty:

Training of qualified specialists with higher medical education for healthcare needs based on the close connection of the educational process with clinical practice and scientific research
Improving the system of higher professional education and additional professional education, as well as continuing medical education of pediatricians, including primary care

Since the health potential of the country’s population is formed from childhood, then, as the first People’s Commissar of Health N.A. Semashko wrote back in 1923, “the improvement of the population’s health should begin with the improvement of the health of the mother and child.” This, naturally, makes it necessary to train doctors who are highly professional and qualified in pediatrics - the science of childhood diseases, their diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

How is training structured at the faculty?

In general, pediatric students study medicine and its various aspects for 6 years (full-time) and 7 years (evening) in 54 departments of the university. Moreover, training is carried out not only in specialized, purely pediatric departments (propaedeutics of childhood diseases, faculty pediatrics, hospital pediatrics, childhood infectious diseases, pediatric surgical diseases, etc.), but also in departments where they study the issues of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of individual diseases among adults, since a child of 14-15 years old is already a practically formed adult organism. This approach to training is all the more relevant because at the VIII Congress of Pediatricians of Russia, held in February 1998, it was decided to provide medical care in the children's clinic not only to children, but also to adolescents under the age of 17 (inclusive), who Currently, they are observed in adolescent offices of children's clinics.

In addition to clinical training, pediatricians study fundamental natural science, medical-biological and medical-preventive disciplines, which allows them to prepare highly qualified specialists who have the opportunity, after receiving a diploma as a pediatrician, to work in any medical specialty, of which there are now more than 100.

In addition to theoretical training, students must undergo practical training, during which future pediatricians master practical skills at the patient’s bedside in various medical institutions. In accordance with the curriculum, students undergo practical training as an assistant: after the first year - junior medical staff, after the second year - ward nurse, after the third year - procedural nurse, after the fourth year - hospital doctor (surgery, therapy, obstetrics and gynecology ), after the 5th year - a doctor in outpatient clinics.

Scientific Children's Health Center - the parent and largest institution in the Russian Federation.

The only one in the system of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences multidisciplinary pediatric center. At the Center, children from various regions of Russia, as well as foreign citizens, receive highly qualified assistance. It consists of three Institutes: Research Institute of Pediatrics of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Research Institute of Hygiene for Children and Adolescents, and Research Institute of Preventive Pediatrics and Rehabilitation Treatment, staffed by more than 160 highly qualified specialists. GU SCCH RAMS has a powerful human resources potential - 4 academicians of the RAMS, 48 professors, 96 doctors and 150 candidates of medical sciences work at the institutes of the Children's Medical Center. All researchers carry out fundamental and applied research in current areas of modern pediatrics, including neonatology. 5,500 children annually receive care in the clinic of the Scientific Center, 25,000 patients are served in the outpatient department and one-day hospital.

The center has been completely re-equipped. All departments have modern scientific and medical equipment, which allows them to conduct fundamental and applied research at the world level. Currently, the Children's Health Center operates a completely unique complex of diagnostic imaging - magnetic resonance and computed tomography, digital radiography, radionuclide and ultrasound methods. Unique technologies for reconstructive surgery for congenital defects in children have been developed, protected by patents and introduced.

Over the past 5 years, the center's scientists have published 70 textbooks, monographs and manuals, 26 teaching aids, 39 methodological recommendations, 34 SANPINs, published 1,465 articles, including 45 abroad, received 16 patents and filed 24 applications for inventions, 39 regulatory documents federal level. The Grants Council under the President of the Russian Federation awarded the title “Leading Scientific School” to the Scientific Research Institute of Pediatrics of the Scientific Center for Children of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
