Are riddles necessary in the modern world? Ten unsolved mysteries of our time. A book that will help you find out the truth

The history of mankind is literally teeming with mysteries and secrets. And what can we say about the ancient world or the Middle Ages, when even the 20th century left us with a legacy of so many mysteries that we will not soon figure them out.
In this collection, I will talk about five of the strangest and most interesting secrets of the twentieth century, which still torment those who like to pry into other people's affairs.
1. The disappearance of the Sanetti train.
This story began in July 1911, when the Sanetti travel company decided to organize an entertainment trip for some members of the wealthy class of Italy. The train, consisting of a locomotive and three carriages, carried 106 passengers on the trip. Everything went as usual until... the Lombard tunnel, into which the train entered but never left! He just disappeared without a trace! Only two passengers managed to escape, or rather not get lost along with the others. They were lucky to leave the train at the very last moment. And it was they who spoke about the cloud of strange, very thick white fog that enveloped the train and caused the passengers to have terrible attacks of panic, similar to insanity.
After the disappearance, the tunnel and all surrounding areas were carefully inspected and studied. But no traces of either the train or the passengers could be found. Soon it was walled up and safely forgotten about, just like the story itself. However, in 1926, one of the relatives of a passenger from the missing train, looking through archival documents, discovered a very unusual recording. It reported that 104 Italians had appeared in Mexico from nowhere, claiming to have arrived by train straight from Rome. And the biggest oddity was that this entry dated back to 1845.

The Italians were then considered crazy and placed in a mental hospital under the supervision of doctors, as evidenced by the notes left by the clinic’s psychiatrist. Eyewitnesses noted that the things and clothes of the Italians did not correspond at all to that time, and some of these things have survived to this day. In particular, a snuff box with the inscription “1907”.
Unsuccessful attempts to find the missing train or at least understand what happened to it continued for several more decades, until during the Second World War an aerial bomb completely destroyed the walled tunnel.

2. Philadelphia experiment.
In October 1943, in an atmosphere of extreme secrecy, the US Navy conducted a very unusual experiment, codenamed “Philadelphia”. The purpose of the experiment was to develop a new technology that would make it possible to generate powerful electromagnetic fields on a military destroyer, thanks to which light and radio waves would be forced to bend around the ship. That is, in fact, the goal of the experiment was to create an invisible ship, a kind of “Flying Dutchman”, invisible to the eyes and radars of the enemy. However, according to numerous publications in the post-war tabloid press, the experiment immediately did not go as planned. The ship, located in the dock, after turning on the equipment, was first enveloped in a greenish light, and then completely disappeared. Soon, however, he appeared, but not at the place of the experiment, but in Norfolk, Virginia. According to the Western press, numerous witnesses saw him there.

After the completion of such a “successful” experiment, 21 people were found alive on the ship, 13 of whom died from burns, injuries electric shock, radiation, and fear. And what happened to the remaining 27 defies any explanation - people were found literally fused, fused with the hull of the ship.

3. Death of the Dyatlov group.
There is Mount Otorten in the Urals, which is considered to be a zone of anomalies. IN different time Tragic events took place in these places. One of these horror stories occurred in February 1959. On the slopes of this mountain, the name of which, translated from the Mansi language, sounds like: “Don’t go there,” a group of tourists died under unclear circumstances. The search teams who found them and the forensic experts were surprised by what they saw there. Around the scene of the incident and down the slope the snow seemed to have been melted at a very high temperature.
The cause of death was determined to be hypothermia. But 3 things immediately caught my eye. Firstly: why were two people lying next to the fireplace completely naked and in a dynamic position. Secondly: one of the members of the deceased group had a crack in his forehead. Thirdly: cadaveric spots were found on parts of the bodies that were not in contact with the ground, which is contrary to the rules of medicine! After all, this is only possible if the bodies were turned over after death... But no traces other than those left by tourists were ever found.

It is also strange that the supplies found in the tent remained untouched. Moreover, people suddenly began to get out of it. And all at once. And not just through the exit, but as if cutting the tent from the inside, trying to get out of it. The footprints in the snow left by members of the group were also unusual: some walked from the tent barefoot, others in only a sock and felt boots. The place where 9 tourists died was named Dyatlov Pass in honor of the group leader.
Until now, various theories have been put forward about what happened on the slope of this ominous mountain. Some, based on the fact that on the same day there was an unusual celestial phenomenon near those places (a luminous ball was moving in the direction of the northeast), say that the tourists died from alien intervention. Others say that a rocket fell nearby after secret tests of our troops.

4. Tunguska meteorite.
The fall of the Tunguska meteorite on June 17, 1908 (June 30, old style) in the area of the Podkamennaya Tunguska River was accompanied by a strong air explosion with a capacity of about 40–50 megatons. First, a fireball flew, which exploded at an altitude of about 7–10 km, and then a magnetic storm lasted for 5 hours. The explosion knocked down a forest covering an area of 2,100 square meters. km, at a distance of 200 km from the epicenter, windows in houses were broken, and the roar was heard even further - at a distance of 800 km.

What is unusual, it would seem, in a simple fall, yes, of a large meteorite? After all, debris from space constantly bombards our planet?! But… Tunguska meteorite was never found. Even the very place of its fall was discovered only 20 years later, at a distance of 100 km from the explosion. In addition, it is still not clear whether it was actually a meteorite or something else. Various assumptions are made: from the crash of an alien spaceship to a top-secret scientific experiment on the use of the latest energy weapons.

5. The monster of Loch Ness.
The mysterious Loch Ness is located in the highlands of Scotland and is surrounded by vertical cliffs that rise two thousand feet. Loch Ness is one of three lakes that saturate the Great Valley - a huge rift that fences off Northern Scotland from the rest of Britain. The depth of Loch Ness sometimes reaches nine hundred feet. This truly huge lake hides great secrets within itself. In its gloomy waters, invisible due to the peat bottom, many times they encountered an unusual monster, reminiscent of those that lived on our planet millions of years before the advent of man.
It is noteworthy that the very first mention of the Loch Ness monster dates back to 565 AD. e. True, in those distant times the appearance of the monster was explained by the machinations evil forces. The next time they started talking about him was only many centuries later. From 565 until the beginning of the 19th century, no mention is found. However, from 1933 to the present day it has been seen more than 5,000 times! Unless, of course, eyewitnesses are lying.

So WHAT IS THIS? There are a lot of theories. The most popular one says that the unknown Loch Ness monster is a dinosaur that became extinct millions of years ago - a plesiosaur. According to supporters of this theory, he fell into a trap after, as a result of tectonic shifts, the land rose and part of the prehistoric sea turned out to be a lake. However, the likelihood that one individual can live for at least several centuries is quite small. In this regard, the population mysterious monster must number several dozen individuals in order to be able to reproduce. In addition, such a population needed a large number of food for sustenance. But for such purposes, Loch Ness is small, and it is unlikely that it can feed so many plesiosaurs.

1. The Philadelphia Experiment

According to rumors, in 1943 the US military department allegedly tried to create a ship invisible to enemy radars. For this purpose, special electromagnetic generators were installed on the destroyer Elridge. The idea behind the experiment was that the very strong electromagnetic field around the ship would act as a shield for radar beams. During the test, to the amazement of the military, the ship not only disappeared from radar, but simply literally disappeared from sight.

Later he allegedly discovered rematerialized in the Norfolk (Virginia) area. The crew of the ship, according to various sources, either disappeared, or went crazy, or was brainwashed immediately after the experiment.

According to some eyewitnesses, members of the Elridge crew either disappeared, or passed through walls, or even spontaneously ignited, so much so that they could not be extinguished. There are many versions regarding the reasons for the disappearance of "Elridge": from the discovery of teleportation to the theory of time travel. The leadership of the US Navy at one time completely denied the conduct of such an experiment.

No written evidence was preserved: the documents were destroyed, the ship's log was “lost” in the archives, and the destroyer was sold to Greece. There are, however, some witnesses to the experiment, but their words also cannot serve as evidence. Skeptics believe that during the experiment, the destroyer simply sailed from Philadelphia to Norfolk along some hidden water channel, the existence of which made it possible to reduce the two-day journey to 6 hours. This. And also the difference in time, they explain the supposedly “instant” appearance of the ship in a water port after disappearing in another. Conspiracy theory fans continue to search for written evidence of the Philadelphia experiment.

2. Roswell Incident

In July 1947, an American farmer discovered the wreckage of a strange aircraft near the town of Roswell and, as many are sure, the bodies of strange people. Appearance debris suggested spaceship aliens or a failed top-secret military experiment. However, the FBI “froze” debate on this topic for 60 years: plainclothes officers who arrived at the site of the discovery immediately mothballed the wreckage of the aircraft and took it away for storage. further research in a closed hangar.

A few years later, the US government announced that the wreckage was allegedly belonged Soviet spy balloon. However, supporters of the theory of alien intelligence, of course, did not believe a penny. While the government was wondering what the wreckage of what had fallen on their heads in 1947, word quickly spread the news throughout the country. Since then, the words “Roswell” and “UFO” are practically synonymous. The city earns fabulous profits from tourists who want to get a glimpse of the “flying saucer” landing site.

3. Zombies Among Us

We are used to thinking of zombies as part of film folklore. The living dead, resurrected by sorcerers, no longer frighten even avid fans of the horror genre. But are there real zombies? Ethnobotanist Wade Davis, in his book “The Snake and the Rainbow,” dedicated to zombification and voodoo rituals in Haiti, talks about strange man named Clervius Narcissus. In 1962, he died in a local hospital three days after being admitted with flu-like symptoms. Eighteen years later, he allegedly returned from the world of the dead and, as proof, told his sister the family nickname that she had once awarded him. According to the "resurrected", his body was stuffed with drugs, then he was turned into a zombie and forced to work on a sugar plantation along with other zombies. After the death of his owner, Narcissus managed to escape, and for 16 long years he wandered around the country until he came across his own sister in the market and recognized her. Skeptics believe that Clervius Narcissus did not die at all, but fell into a stupor, which local illiterate doctors mistook for death.

4. Wow signal

The SETI project was engaged in the search for extraterrestrial civilizations, based on the assumption that if developed civilizations exist somewhere, they must have created systems of radio signals, the same as on Earth. The search for brothers in mind was expressed in listening to millions of radio channels in attempts to catch some kind of intelligent code. On August 15, 1977, something happened that all project participants had been waiting for so long - at the university Ohio The radio telescope recorded a signal that lasted exactly 37 seconds. Astronomer Jerry Eyman, who accepted the code 6EQUJ5, delightedly circled it in red marker in the diagram and scribbled in the margin with the same marker: WOW! - "Cool!". However, the scientist’s enthusiasm was premature. No one has been able to prove whether the received signal was really the code of brothers in mind, or whether it appeared on the air as a result of some human activity. Attempts to re-index the signal failed.

5. Circles in wheat fields

The phenomenon of circles in wheat fields has been around for almost 30 years. Mysterious circles and signs formed by neatly crushed ears of wheat are clearly visible from a helicopter and even from space. Interestingly, about 90% of all circles are located in England. There are many theories about the origin of these circles. The most popular of them is the intervention of unearthly civilizations, traces from alien spacecraft, and even secret signs that our brothers in mind give us. Scientists are inclined to meteorological explanations for the phenomenon: the circles seem to them to be the results of sudden tornadoes or destruction of the ozone layer. Skeptics are sure that all the circles are the result of someone’s unsuccessful “long-lasting” joke.

6. Bigfoot

Still in many places globe Scientists, tourists, hunters are finding “evidence” of the existence of the so-called Bigfoot - a huge humanoid creature with long white hair covering its entire body. Traces of huge feet were seen in Alaska, and on Elbrus, and in Peru. Many are inclined to consider Bigfoot one of the intermediate links in evolution, proof that man descended from apes. Others consider him a mystical creature. Skeptics, as always, grin and advise everyone to be more realistic: traces can be someone's joke, photographs can be fake, video evidence can be fake.

There are such natural anomalies and physical phenomena, which can be classified as “Modern Mysteries”, since they modern man I can’t describe it. Even now, in the 21st century, not everyone understands what is happening around them and how to characterize certain life moments.

Scientists have compiled a list of the most mysterious phenomena modernity, for which there are no clear answers.

Mysteries of our time that do not have clear answers

1. Face on Mars

Back in 1975, astronomers were able to provide the world with photographs of the Cydonia region on this planet. Many who encountered this image considered a human face. Immediately in scientific world There has been controversy over exactly where the portrait on Mars came from. Opinions on the Martian mystery are divided. Some believe that the "face" is a man-made creation, while others believe that it is simply a visual effect that occurs when photographing landscapes. If you greatly enlarge the image, the face disintegrates into mountain ranges.

2. Ikian stones

According to legend, the stones were located in Peru a long time ago, in a cave, the coordinates of which no one still knows. But the surprising thing is that no one has ever found the original location. The surprising thing is that amazing drawings are applied to the stones that do not coincide with the ancient way of life. For example, one stone shows that surgeons of that time performed an operation on the core, and this was physically impossible to do at that moment. It turned out that one inventive farmer put stones in the chicken coop, and the chickens played with them, leaving interesting scratches with their claws. By the way, the stones were sold at exorbitant prices.

3. The ship "Maria Celeste"

An amazing ghost ship that moves without its crew. The strange thing is that eyewitnesses specifically climbed onto the deck and saw food, from which smoke was coming, and the crew’s belongings, but there was no trace of the sailors themselves. If we think logically, then most likely the crew and the captain simply hastily evacuated, feeling that the ship was sinking. Most likely it was a false alarm.

4. Bermuda Triangle

And scientists also did not find waste products, and this can mean a lot.

7. Bigfoot

Yeti, or simply Bigfoot, is one of the main mysteries of our time. The mysterious Yeti does not allow hundreds of travelers to sleep peacefully. Not because he bothers them, but because no one can find him. A legend, a beautiful fairy tale that attracts tourists and creates a unique aura of mystery. If you turn to scientists, they doubt the existence of the Yeti. No evidence - no substance.

8. Shroud of Turin

This is currently the most researched subject. Dozens of scientists got together, photographed it, cut off tiny pieces to prove whether it was a fake or not. The fact is that, according to legend, the body of Christ was wrapped in this fabric and after some time the image of Jesus was imprinted on the fabric. While examining the shroud, scientists discovered that the date of Christ's death does not coincide with the age of the cloth. Radiocarbon dating of the fabric showed its medieval origin. It was also discovered that not all the blood on the shroud belonged to the same person. The groups are different. And there is not blood, but pigments, dyes that were applied to imitate a bloody body that was once lying in the fabric. At the same time, the existence of Christ is not questioned. The origin of the shroud itself is a modern mystery for many.

9. Astrology

Science that appeared a long time ago. Most representatives of the scientific world consider astrology to be absolutely useless. According to astrologers, zodiac signs, as well as planets, stars and numbers have a serious influence on human destiny. Although astrologers do not deny the factor of human free will. There is no solid scientific evidence of the impact of Heaven on humans, but the financial turnover is colossal. Printed publications from all sides are replete with horoscopes and astrological forecasts, which often do not come true, because when compiling them, astrologers take into account general astrological factors that influence groups of people, and not a specific person. More reliable is a personal horoscope compiled taking into account individual birth data. People want to believe what they like.

10. Imperishable relics

There are bodies that are practically untouched by time, and are stored for a very long time from the moment of death. The most popular example is the body of Saint Bernadette. When scientists received the go-ahead for research, they found traces of wax in the tissues, which slows down decomposition; accordingly, Bernadette was saved by people, not higher power. But there are also inexplicable modern science facts of preservation of relics. For example, the incorruptible relics of St. Alexander of Svirsky, preserved in surprisingly excellent condition and with which many mysteries are associated.

Now you can see that not everything has no answers. Sooner or later the secret will always be revealed.

Despite the fact that scientists tirelessly unravel and discover, the mysteries in the history of mankind do not seem to decrease. A lot of mysteries and unsolved mysteries remains in the history of our civilization.

Science is increasingly applying modern methods and technology, history is gradually lifting its veils, but even billion-dollar research budgets and brilliant researchers still cannot answer some very interesting questions, cannot explain the origin of a certain people or where the entire state disappeared.

Some experts say that the pyramids were built from ready-made blocks hewn out of the rock, others (Joseph Davilowitz) say that the blocks were made at the construction site from a mixture of stone chips and “geopolymer concrete” based on limestone. The incredible complexity of the process calls into question all hypotheses. The question also remains open about who built the pyramids, slaves or civilian workers, and how many there were.

It is still unknown where the Sumerians came to Mesopotamia. It is assumed that this was a mountainous region, since in the Sumerian language the words “country” and “mountain” are spelled the same. It also had to be an area with advanced technology - the Sumerians were pioneers in many fields of knowledge, from astronomy to physics. It is speculative, but not yet proven, that this could be in the south of India.

There is much less material on the Norman version than on the Columbus version, and not all of them are considered authentic, which greatly undermines its credibility.

The Macedonians who returned home said that the great commander died of drunkenness and debauchery (sources brought to us information about his 360 concubines). There is a lot that is unclear in the story of the European plague pandemic, which literally “decimated” Europe in the Middle Ages. Thus, it was not possible to identify wild rodents known as such, whose habitats would also extend so far to the north. There is no answer to the question of why the Black Death pandemic struck Europe in the same sequence and over the same territories, and for the same time, as the first pandemic - the Plague of Justinian (531-589)? How did its outbreaks flare up synchronously over very extensive areas of Europe, for example, the plague epidemic in Moscow and London in the middle of the 17th century?
