pharmachologic effect

Augmentin® is a combination antibiotic containing amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, with a broad spectrum of bactericidal action, resistant to beta-lactamase.

Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic a wide range action, active against many gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. Amoxicillin is destroyed by the action of beta-lactamases, and does not act on microorganisms that produce this enzyme. Its mechanism of action is to inhibit the biosynthesis of cell wall mucopeptides.

Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamate, structurally related to penicillins, that has the ability to inactivate a wide range of beta-lactamase. Beta-lactamases are produced by many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The action of beta-lactamases can lead to the destruction of some antibacterial drugs even before they begin to act on pathogens. Clavulanic acid blocks the action of enzymes, restoring the sensitivity of bacteria to amoxicillin. In particular, it has high activity against plasmid beta-lactamases, which are often associated with drug resistance, but is less effective against type 1 chromosomal beta-lactamases.

The presence of clavulanic acid in Augmentin® protects amoxicillin from the damaging effects of beta-lactamases and expands its spectrum of antibacterial activity to include microorganisms that are usually resistant to other penicillins and cephalosporins.

Augmentin® has a bactericidal effect on the following microorganisms:

Грамположительные аэробы: Bacillis anthracis*, виды родаCorynebacterium, Enterococcus faecalis*, Enterococcus faecium* Listeriamonocytogenes, Nocardia asteroides, Staphylococcus aureus*, Коагулазо-негативныестафилококки* (включая Staphylococcus epidermidis*), Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcuspneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, виды рода Streptococcus, Streptococcusviridans ;

Gram-positive anaerobes: species of the genus Clostridium, species of the genus Peptococcus, species of the genus Peptostreptococcus;

Gram-negative aerobes: Bordetella pertussis, species of the genus Brucella, Escherichia coli*, Gardnerella vaginalis, Haemophilus influenzae*, Helicobacterpylori, Species of the genus Klebsiella*, Species of the genus Legionella, Moraxella catarrhalis*(Branhamella catarrhalis), Neisseria gonorrhoeae*, Neisseria meningitidis*, Pasteurellamultocida, Proteus mirabilis*, Proteus vulgaris*, Species of the genus Salmonella*, Species of the genus Shigella* , Vibrio cholerae, Yersinia enterocolitica*;

Gram-negative anaerobes: Species of the genus Bacteroides* (including Bacteroides fragilis), Species of the genus Fusobacterium*;

Others: Borrelia burgdorferi, Chlamydiae, Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae, Treponema pallidum;

*Some strains of these bacterial species produce beta-lactamase, making them insensitive to amoxicillin monotherapy.

Pharmacokinetics

Suction

Both active ingredients of Augmentin®, amoxicillin and clavulanate are highly soluble in aqueous solutions With physiological significance pH, quickly and completely absorbed from gastrointestinal tract after oral administration. The absorption of the active ingredients of Augmentin® is optimal when taken at the beginning of a meal.

Distribution

Therapeutic concentrations of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid are created in different bodies and tissues, interstitial fluid (lungs, organs abdominal cavity, fat, bone and muscle tissues, pleural, synovial and peritoneal fluids, skin, bile, urine, purulent discharge, sputum). The binding of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid to plasma proteins is low and amounts to 25% of the total amount of clavulanic acid and 18% of amoxicillin, about 70% remains free in the blood serum. Amoxicillin passes into breast milk. In breast milk, trace amounts of clavulanic acid are also determined. With the exception of the risk of sensitization, no other adverse health effects are known for breastfed infants. Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid cross the placental barrier.

Eliminations

Amoxicillin is excreted primarily by the kidneys, while clavulanic acid is eliminated through both renal and extrarenal mechanisms.

Metabolism

Amoxicillin is partially excreted in the urine as inactive penicillin acid in an amount equivalent to 10-25% of the initial dose. Clavulanic acid in the body undergoes intensive metabolism to 2,5-dihydro-4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-5-oxo-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxylic acid and 1-amino-4-hydroxy-butan-2-one and is excreted in urine and feces, as well as in the form of carbon dioxide through exhaled air.

Indications for use

- infections of the upper respiratory tract [(including infections of the ear, throat and nose), for example, recurrent tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media commonly caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae*, Moraxellacatarrhalis* and Streptococcus pyogenes]

Lower respiratory tract infections, such as exacerbations chronic bronchitis, lobar pneumonia, and bronchopneumonia commonly caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae*, and Moraxella catarrhalis*

Urinary tract infections (cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis)

Gynecological infections usually caused by strains of the Enterobacteriaceae* family (mainly Escherichia coli*), Staphylococcus saprophyticus and strains of the Enterococcus genus, as well as gonorrhea caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae*

Skin and soft tissue infections commonly caused by Staphylococcusaureus*, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Bacteroides* species

Bone and joint infections (osteomyelitis due to Staphylococcusaureus*)

Other mixed infections (septic abortion, sepsis, abdominal infections)

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to beta-lactams, such as cpenicillins and cephalosporins

Jaundice or abnormal liver function that developed during the use of Augmentin or beta-lactam antibiotics

Infectious mononucleosis

Dosage and administration

The dosage regimen is set individually depending on age, body weight, kidney function, as well as the severity of the infection. Augmentin® is recommended to be taken at the beginning of a meal. Treatment should not be continued for more than 14 days without reassessment of the patient's condition. If necessary, it is possible to step therapy(at the beginning of intravenous administration of the drug, followed by the transition to oral administration).

Adults and children over 12 years of age or weighing more than 40 kg

Children under 12 years of age or weighing less than 40 kg

The dose, depending on age and weight, is indicated in mg / kg of body weight per day, or in milliliters of suspension.

25 / 3.6 mg / kg / day in 2 doses for mild and moderate infections (infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, infections of the skin and soft tissues).

45/6.4 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses for more serious infections (upper respiratory tract infections such as otitis media and sinusitis, lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchopneumonia and urinary tract infections).

Below are tables for choosing a single dose of Augmentin® depending on body weight.

Overdose

Symptoms: gastrointestinal disorders and disturbances in water and electrolyte balance are possible. Amoxicillin crystalluria has been described, in some cases leading to the development kidney failure.

Treatment: symptomatic therapy, correction of water and electrolyte balance. Augmentin® is removed from the blood by hemodialysis.

Interaction with other drugs

It is not recommended to use Augmentin® simultaneously with probenicid. Probenicid reduces the tubular secretion of amoxicillin, and therefore the simultaneous use of Augmentin® and probenecid may lead to an increase in the blood level of amoxicillin.

The simultaneous use of allopurinol and Augmentin® may increase the risk of allergic reactions. Data on the simultaneous use of allopurinol and Augmentin® are currently not available.

Augmentin® affects the intestinal flora and leads to a decrease in reabsorption, a decrease in the effectiveness of combined oral contraceptives.

Application features

Before starting treatment with Augmentin, it is necessary to collect a detailed history regarding previous hypersensitivity reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins or other allergens.

Serious and sometimes fatal hypersensitivity reactions have been described ( anaphylactic reactions) for penicillins. In the event of an allergic reaction, it is necessary to stop treatment with Augmentin® and start alternative therapy. In severe hypersensitivity reactions, epinephrine should be administered immediately to the patient. Oxygen therapy, intravenous steroids, and airway management, including intubation, may also be required.

Augmentin® should not be prescribed in cases of suspected infectious mononucleosis, since in patients with this disease, mamoxicillin may cause skin rash which makes it difficult to diagnose the disease.

Long-term treatment with Augmentin may be accompanied by excessive growth of microorganisms insensitive to it.

In general, Augmentin® is well tolerated and has a low toxicity characteristic of all penicillins. When treating with Augmentin for more than 7 days, it is recommended to evaluate the functions of the kidneys, liver, and hematopoiesis.

In patients receiving Augmentin, an increase in prothrombin time is occasionally observed, therefore, with simultaneous application Augmentin and anticoagulants should be monitored appropriately.

Augmentin® should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver function.

In patients with impaired renal function, the dose of Augmentin should be adjusted according to the degree of impairment.

Rarely, crystalluria may occur in patients with reduced urine output. During the introduction high doses amoxicillin, it is recommended to take a sufficient amount of fluid and maintain adequate diuresis to reduce the likelihood of the formation of amoxicillin crystals. The presence of clavulanic acid in Augmentin® may cause non-specific binding of IgG and albumin to the erythrocyte membrane, which leads to a false gram-positive test.

Augmentin®, powder for suspension for oral administration 400 mg / 57 mg / 5 ml contains 3.32 mg / ml of aspartame, a source of phenylalanine. It is not recommended to use the drug in patients with phenylketonuria.

The drug contains maltodextin (glucose). It is not recommended to use the drug in patients with glucose-galactose malabsorption.

Pregnancy and lactation

Augmentin® can be used during breastfeeding. Features of the effect of the drug on the ability to drive a vehicle or potentially dangerous mechanisms

It is not known, however, side effects of the drug should be taken into account.

Hello!

Like last year, the children decided to get sick before the New Year (2018). And if the eldest daughter had only a runny nose and cough, then the youngest (1 year 8 months), who followed the eldest tail, and which was unrealistic to separate from the sick eldest, began to have a temperature in a week.

Actually, the antibiotic Augmentin 200 mg / 28.5 mg / 5 ml was prescribed to the youngest daughter by a pediatrician,

after the dynamics of the course of the disease only worsened. My daughter stopped eating, had a temperature for 5 days (the temperature was not higher than 38, which I attribute to the use of Genferon suppositories) and switched to the “hanging on her hands” mode, a cough began, a runny nose did not stop. Due to the incessant runny nose, an aspirator was also purchased.

Where to buy and how much does the antibiotic Augmentin 200 mg / 28.5 mg / 5 ml cost?

The antibiotic Augmentin 200 mg / 28.5 mg / 5 ml was purchased in one of the pharmacies of the city.

Price for Antibiotic Augmentin 200 mg / 28.5 mg / 5 ml at the beginning of January 2018 was 8.17 Bel. rub. (which is about 4$ per pack) .

With the antibiotic Augmentin, we were already familiar with the eldest, who is in the garden (especially in junior group) often got sick.

What is the antibiotic Augmentin 200 mg / 28.5 mg / 5 ml? Composition and description.

The antibiotic Augmentin is considered more effective than, for example, Ospamox. It is more effective in the treatment of angina, copes better with streptococcus.

The composition of the antibiotic Augmentin is as follows:

active substances: amoxicillin (as amoxicillin trihydrate) 200 mg;

clavulanic acid (as potassium clavulanate) 28.50 mg,

Excipients: xanthan gum, aspartame, succinic acid, colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, hypromellose, dry orange flavor 610271 E, dry orange flavor 9/027108, dry raspberry flavor NN07943, dry molasses flavor 52927/AR, anhydrous silicon dioxide.

The antibiotic Augmentin at a dosage of 200 mg / 28.5 mg / 5 ml is intended primarily for young patients. Of course, school-age children and adults can use it, but it is irrational. Because the dosage will be higher, and accordingly, it will not be enough for the course of administration.

The antibiotic Augmentin 2 comes in a glass jar in the form of a white powder:

On the jar, the information from the instructions for diluting the powder is duplicated.

The powder should be dissolved in boiled water cooled to room temperature, shaking gradually and adding water up to the mark on the vial. The bottle should be turned over and shaken thoroughly until completely dissolved.

After dilution of the powder, the color of the antibiotic suspension is milky white.

A measuring cup is included. It has graduations in 2.5 ml, 5 ml, 7.5 ml, 10 ml.

How to use the antibiotic Augmentin 200 mg / 28.5 mg / 5 ml?

The youngest daughter is 1 year 8 months old (at the time of antibiotic prescription). Therefore, for her, the dosage prescribed by the pediatrician is as follows:

5 ml 2 times a day.

It is advisable to observe an interval of 12 hours. I usually give in the morning after waking up and the next time before bed at night.

The dose and frequency of administration, of course, should be prescribed by the attending physician for each specific case and individual patient.

The results of taking the antibiotic Augmentin 200 mg / 28.5 mg / 5 ml in a child:

The first time the daughter was given antibiotics before bed, and in the morning the temperature subsided. Didn't get up during the day.

After a day of taking the antibiotic, the child began to show interest in food and everything around.

A day later, the appetite returned almost completely, the "hanging on hands" mode was turned off: there was a desire to play and run around the apartment.

In total, the antibiotic was prescribed for 5 days. And almost all the suspension was used up.

Side effects from taking the antibiotic Augmentin 200 mg / 28.5 mg / 5 ml

I already wrote that my daughter has allergic reactions to dyes, so taking new drugs for us is always with the expectation of Something. With the antibiotic Augmentin 2 in our case, no allergic reactions were found, some other side effects in the form of a violation of the chair, too, was not noted.

Although, like any antibiotic in the annotation for Augumentin 200 mg, the list of side effects is rather big. Therefore, it does not hurt to study the instructions.

Contraindications and side effects

In the instructions for use of Augmentin, there are some restrictions under which the use this tool prohibited. Contraindications to the use of an antibacterial drug:

  • young and adult individuals who are hypersensitive to the components of the drug;
  • it is undesirable to use Augmentin when breastfeeding and during pregnancy;
  • it is forbidden to use the medicine for jaundice and severe impairment of kidney function;
  • a history of mononucleosis.

The presence in the victim's medical history of information about the occurrence of an allergic reaction prohibits the use of the drug, if it cannot be dispensed with, then the use should take place under the supervision of medical personnel.

Most often, Augmentin is well tolerated. However, side effects described in the instructions should be taken into account in order to be ready to provide the first medical care child until the ambulance arrives. Side effects:

  • dyspepsia;
  • jaundice;
  • angioedema;
  • hives;
  • rash;
  • candidiasis;
  • anaphylactic shock.

Having noticed one of the listed symptoms or discoloration of the teeth in the baby, you should immediately stop giving the child Augmentin and immediately visit the attending doctor.

Information! Augmentin for children is inexpensive. The price of the suspension is from 75 to 400 rubles. Every resident of the country can afford to buy an antibacterial medicine.

What can replace

If there is a need to replace the drug, you can use the analogues listed below, however, you should know which drug is better.

Augmentin or Amoxiclav: which is better? In fact, Augmentin is a structural analogue of Amoxiclav. The second drug is more advanced, but the first remedy has more indications and fewer side effects. Therefore, we can safely say that Augmentin is more practical and better.

Augmentin or Summamed: which is better? Summamed causes constipation in young children and often children spill out after its use. Pediatricians say that it is better to use Augmentin for the treatment of ENT diseases.

Flemoxin or Augmentin: which is better? The second medication is much stronger and more effective, it has a wider spectrum antibacterial action. It is also recommended by parents. Unlike Flemoxin, Augmentin also contains clavulanic acid. For the treatment of children, doctors prefer the second drug. However, Flemoxin is also a good remedy, and has some advantages, so a specialist should deal with the choice of medication.

To combat childhood infections, experts prescribe antibacterial agents. Small children do not have to be tormented by injections and pills. In pharmacology, antibiotics are provided for more affordable forms of release intended for the treatment of babies. Such a tool is Augmentin suspension for children.

The advantages of the drug in question include the ease of calculating the required dosage, taking into account body weight, and taste (fruit flavor). Children flawlessly take an antibiotic remedy with an acceptable taste.

Augmentin (antibiotic) is prescribed by the attending physician. The use of the drug in childhood does not differ in pronounced side effects. Small children tolerate syrup well. However, indiscriminate medication can provoke microflora resistance, which will lead to insufficient drug effect, in which it is necessary to adjust the treatment regimen for more toxic and strong antibiotics.

  1. Bacterial diseases oral cavity and teeth (maxillary abscess, periodontitis).
  2. Diseases of the upper respiratory, throat (tonsillitis), nose, larynx, infectious nature. , tonsillitis, laryngitis, otitis.
  3. Infections in the lower respiratory canals (lung abscess, bronchitis, pleural empyema, pneumonia,).
  4. Diseases of the bacteriological course in the urinary system (pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis).
  5. Disease soft tissue, infectious nature(abscess, furunculosis, carbunculosis).

Before taking Augmentin, a change is scheduled bacteriological culture. For analysis, sputum, mucus, urine is taken to recognize the pathological environment. This is necessary to evaluate the prescribed antibiotic by determining the sensitivity of bacteria to the active substances of the drug. This method of research allows specialists to accurately select an effective antimicrobial drug.

The delivered material is tested for several days, and therapeutic therapy is prescribed on the day of contacting a doctor. When determining the insensitivity of microbes to a previously prescribed drug, more than strong antibiotic or the dose of the medication used is adjusted.

Forms of release used to treat children

Produced forms of Augmentin: powder for solutions, tablets, dry composition for suspension. Syrups are recommended for children under 12 years of age, injection solutions, suspension formulations.

The suspension is easily perceived by babies, however, it is important to correctly calculate the dosage. This will help avoid allergies.

The composition of the medicinal product

Components of the drug:

  • Amoxicillin dosage - 0.125 - 0.2 - 0.4.
  • Quavulanic acid.
  • Flavors of raspberry, orange, molasses.
  • Additional components.

Amoxicillin belongs to the penicillin family medications. It is a powerful antibacterial agent.

Clavulanic acid is a protective component of amoxycycline from decay. Thanks to the combination of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid, Augmentin has a wide range of effects on harmful microorganisms.

After mixing the powdered composition with a liquid (water), a suspension is obtained, which is convenient to treat small children. The drug is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, the use of the drug is recommended before meals, then the antibiotic is completely absorbed. If the child responded allergic manifestation on the antibiotic composition, which means that sensitization has occurred. In such a situation, Augmentin is replaced by another antibiotic.

The drug is excreted from the body by the kidneys (urine) or feces.

Suspension preparation method, dosage

Augmentin detailed instructions for use in children suspension:

  • the medicinal composition is prepared before taking;
  • the powder is not diluted in parts;
  • in a glass bottle with a powdered composition, add 60 milligrams of water;
  • the solution is shaken well to obtain a homogeneous mixture (there should be no sediment);
  • so that the concentration does not change, the dosage of water should not exceed the mark;
  • the prepared medicine cannot be used after 7 days of refrigerated storage (unused drug is disposed of);
  • the drug is taken with the help of a measuring cap, the dose is prescribed by the attending physician.

How to take the suspension

The daily intake of the prepared composition, for children of different age and weight categories:

  • infection of the soft tissue and epidermis is treated with a dosage of Augmentin 2 mg for every 5 kilograms of body weight, 40 mg per day is allowed;
  • treatment for otitis media, sinusitis, infectious pathologies upper respiratory tract is 40 mg for every 10 kilograms of body weight, 60 mg per 15 kg (daily calculation);
  • the age of children up to 12 months (baby) - 2 mg, three times a day;
  • age of children from 12 months to 6 years - 5 mg of the suspension composition 3 times a day;
  • children's age of about six years with a weight of up to 42 kg - 10 mg 3 times a day;
  • children weighing more than 43 kg - a tablet form of the drug is recommended;
  • infants up to two months of age and newborn patients, the medication is prescribed taking into account important indicators for life.

After taking the antibiotic composition, the active substances immediately begin to act, destroying pathogenic microorganisms. Well medical therapy appointed individually by the treating specialist, under his constant supervision.

Augmentin storage rules

Storage of the drug is provided indoors, with a temperature of 25 degrees, without access to children. The shelf life of the drug does not exceed two years, after the end of the permissible shelf life of the drug, its use is prohibited.

Possible side effects

Augmentin instructions for children suspension, possible side effects:

  • worsened work of the gastrointestinal tract in the form of diarrhea, cramping and pain in the abdomen, with vomiting and nausea;
  • failure of the protective functions of the body (vasculitis, anaphylactic shock);
  • candidiasis of the epidermis and mucous membranes;
  • impaired hematopoiesis and lymphatics (thrombosis, leukopenia);
  • pathological process in the liver or kidneys;
  • violation of the central nervous system (headaches, dizziness, convulsions);
  • death (rarely) with multiple contraindications on the part of the patient.
Most often, antibiotics in children develop dysbacteriosis, to prevent it, antibiotics are prescribed along with drugs that preserve healthy microflora in the intestine, it is also recommended to use fermented milk products.

Similar medicines

Analogues include:

  • Ecoclave;
  • Amoxiclav;
  • Medoklav;
  • Flemoklav;
  • ranclave;
  • Panklav.

If there is a need to use Augmentin, in order to avoid incidental situations and side effects, the drug should be prescribed by the attending physician. The specialist, after studying the medical history and collecting a complete anamnesis, will decide on the permission to use the antibiotic in question.

Antibiotic penicillin series"Augmentin" is allowed for both adults and children. It is prescribed for many infections. But sometimes, young mothers do not wait for the doctor's recommendations, or vice versa, act contrary to them, replacing Augmentin 400 with what the doctor prescribed. In this case, there may be problems with correct dosage suspensions "Augmentin 400" for children. In order not to harm, but to get real benefit from good and, in many cases, useful drug you need to understand some of the subtleties.

Characteristics of the suspension "Augmentin 400"

"Augmentin 400" was developed on the basis of amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic and clavulanic acid, which protects amoxicillin from destruction.

Amoxicillin is the main substance of the Augmentin 400 suspension. It is he who has a bactericidal and antibacterial effect on the body. The disadvantage of amoxicillin is that some microorganisms become addicted to it. This means that they simply stop responding to the drug. This is where clavulanic acid comes into play. It makes viruses less resistant.

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic penicillin group and therefore well tolerated even by young children and pregnant women, except in cases of individual intolerance.

But it must be remembered that he, like most medicines has its own side effects. And also, it is contraindicated in patients with phenylketonuria, as well as in renal failure and liver diseases.

Suspension "Augmentin" is prescribed for various infections respiratory tract, skin diseases, genitourinary system.

It helps to take a suspension of Augmentin and osteomyelitis. It is an excellent prevention of infections in case of surgical operations.

How to prepare the Augmentin suspension and how to take it:

  • The drug must be poured into a bottle and pour boiled water. Attention! The water should not be hot;
  • Next, you need to shake it well to maximize the dissolution of the granules and leave for 4 minutes. During this time, even the smallest particles will have time to dissolve.
  • But if you see that this did not happen, then shake the bottle again and set aside for another 5 minutes.
  • Then you need to add water to the mark.
  • Only after this, the drug can be considered ready for use.
  • The finished suspension can be stored in the refrigerator - up to 7 days, but do not freeze. After 7 days, the use of the drug is prohibited.

When you remove the suspension from the refrigerator, it must be shaken well and poured. right amount in a measuring spoon. You can draw up the required amount of the drug with a syringe.

Do not forget that all items that you use must be carefully handled. In no case should the particles of the suspension dry up on a spoon or syringe and be used several times without washing.

If the child cannot drink the suspension, for example because of an unpleasant taste for him, it is allowed to add an amount of water. But at the same time, you need to drink all this solution.

Dosage of Augmentin 400 suspension for children: instructions for self-calculation

Powdered drug "Augmentin" can be purchased at pharmacies in various options, in which the concentration of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid is different:

  • 125 mg amoxicillin + 31.35 mg clavulanic acid;
  • 200 mg amoxicillin + 28.5 mg clavulanic acid;
  • 400 mg amoxicillin + 57 mg clavulanic acid.

In all variants, the main dosage is 5 ml of the finished suspension. But you should know that the dosage of Augmentin 400 is always calculated according to the concentration of amoxicillin: 125, 200 or 400. It is important to understand this in order to remember that these drugs do not replace one another. And if you have been prescribed Augmentin 400, it cannot be replaced with Augmentin 200 or Augmentin 125 and vice versa.

Augmentin 400 suspension is usually prescribed for children over 12 years of age and adults. The body weight of the child must be more than 40 kg. But the reception of children under 2 years is contraindicated. For them, "Augmentin 125" is just right.

The dosage of the suspension "Augmentin 400" for children is individual - it is necessary to take into account body weight, severity of the disease, age. The dosage is calculated only for amoxicillin.

If the drug is prescribed to a child under 12 years of age, then it is necessary to ensure that no more than 45 mg and no less than 25 mg of the antibiotic is obtained per 1 kilogram of body weight.

The severity of the disease also plays a big role here. For example, when skin infections, chronic tonsillitis- Antibiotic doses - minimal. But with acute infectious diseases, pneumonia, bronchitis - the total doses of the drug increase.

It is worth remembering that there is also the number of doses of the drug. For example, a child under the age of 12 can be given only 1 or 2 r. in a day. And the interval between two doses should be at least 12 hours.

Example of drug calculation:

Child 8 years old, weight - 27 kg. The disease is otitis media. He needs 45 mg of the drug per 1 kilogram of weight. This means that the total dosage of the drug will be 1215 mg, which will be divided into 2 doses - 607.5 mg each.

In 5 ml of Augmentin suspension - 400 mg, which means that at one time it is necessary to make 7.6 ml, or 15 ml per day.

It is not very easy to calculate the exact dosage of Augmentin 400 suspension for a child. Because you need to do some math. Often, parents get confused in them, so there are average values. But it is better to use these values only as a hint. That is, to check on them whether the calculations were made correctly.

For example, a child from one year old and weighing up to 18 kg should not take more than 5 ml of the finished Augmentin suspension. A child over 6 years old from 19 kg can already have 7.5 ready-made suspensions. If the child is already 10 years old and weighs more than 29 kg, then he needs 10 ml of the suspension at one time. But these values do not take into account the disease itself, nor its severity.
