Immunomodulators are drugs that are predominantly used in Russia and have long been recognized in both adult and pediatric therapy. One of these medicines is Kipferon suppositories.

They have a whole range of capabilities, but are produced in a single dosage and are mainly aimed at the adult body. Can they be used to treat children, how to do this correctly?

This drug belongs to the category of immunomodulators (cytokines), i.e. acts as a regulator of the body's defenses. Manufacturer - Russian company ALFARM. The active substances of Kipferon are human interferon and a complex immunoglobulin preparation, of which there is only 60 mg. Interferon contains 500,000 IU in 1 suppository. It is obtained from donor blood, which during processing is tested for HIV and other infections/viruses, including hepatitis, so the consumer has nothing to fear.

Also used are emulsifiers, paraffin, confectionery fat, which provide the drug with a solid base, water and sodium compounds. Once in the body, they begin to melt, after which the active substance is absorbed into the blood.

  • Kipferon is available in suppository format for vaginal and rectal administration. The principle of use depends on the purpose of the prescribed therapy.
  • The drug is sold in blisters of 5 and 10 candles.
  • The dosage for Kipferon is the same, regardless of whether it was prescribed to adults or children. In this case, it is possible to change the name to “Kipferon 500”, which means the proportion of interferon in the composition.

Doctors point out that releasing the drug with less interferon makes it ineffective, however, increasing the dosage will not have a positive effect on the result. This is precisely what determines the presence of a single variant of suppositories on the pharmacological market.

The therapeutic properties of Kipferon affect inflammatory process, facilitating its course, strengthen the overall immunity of the body, and also help fight viruses, microbes and chlamydia. It should be noted that to eliminate pathogenic microorganisms, like antibiotics, Kipferon is not oriented: it only isolates them and stops their activity, preventing them from multiplying. In addition, due to its rectal/vaginal use, Kipferon does not affect the microflora of the gastrointestinal tract, which is especially important when using a drug of this type in children.

Kipferon candles for children: instructions for use

The standard list of indications for the use of this drug begins with gynecological diseases in women, including chlamydia, uterine erosion, vulvovaginitis. However, other purposes for using Kipferon are also possible: these are mainly diseases in which, one way or another, suffers general level immunity, and, accordingly, independent of the age and gender of the patient. In particular, the drug can become an element complex therapy for treatment:

  • rotavirus and bacterial infections, including salmonellosis;
  • intestinal dysbiosis and intestinal infection;
  • any respiratory diseases;
  • viral and bacterial infections of the oral cavity and respiratory tract (including bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.);
  • herpes;
  • hepatitis of viral etiology.

The principle of use and dosage, especially in pediatric therapy, should be established directly by the pediatrician. The official instructions suggest using Kipferon antiviral suppositories for children as follows:

  • For the treatment of respiratory viral infections affecting oral cavity or upper respiratory tract, children under one year of age are given no more than 1 suppository per day. Children aged 1 to 12 years can be given 1 suppository twice a day, but it is advisable to determine the exact dosage based on the sensitivity of the body, starting with 1 suppository per day. For children over 12 years of age, the frequency of use of Kipferon can be increased to 3 times a day.
  • To combat intestinal and rotavirus infections, as well as with dysbacteriosis, the scheme of work will be similar: one-time administration of 1 suppository per day for babies under one year old, two times a day for children under 12 years of age, and three times a day for adolescents over 12 years of age. The duration of such therapy should not exceed a week. If the desired effect (or any positive dynamics) is absent, the drug is replaced.

Doctors clarify that the maximum effectiveness from Kipferon (as in general from interferon-based drugs) can be seen if you start using it in the first days of the disease, i.e. on initial stage exacerbations. After it becomes chronic, this drug may turn out to be practically useless.

Keep in mind that, like all rectal suppositories, Kipferon must be administered after bowel movements, and most doctors agree that it is worth doing an enema first. For the smallest - a volume of 200-300 ml, for older children this norm increases up to 1 liter. To facilitate the process of inserting a suppository, the child should be placed on his side and his legs bent at the knees, and the anal area can be lubricated vegetable oil. The suppository is inserted so that behind it anus has entered forefinger for 1 phalanx.

  • According to experts, it is possible to use Kipferon in children from the first days of life, i.e. There are no age restrictions. However, this does not make this drug absolutely safe, and adverse reactions may occur (which are not listed in the official instructions), caused by individual intolerance to the components of Kipferon.
  • The use of Kiperferon in women who are on early pregnancy (1st trimester), as well as breastfeeding. There are no contraindications to the drug in children: it can be used even in premature babies.

The drug does not conflict with other antiviral drugs, therefore it is often prescribed along with any medications aimed at treating the same infectious, viral or bacterial disease. However, if they are also based on interferon or have it in their composition, therapy should be carried out with caution. Despite the absence of known cases of overdose, the individual reaction of the body should not be discounted.

Due to the fact that the cost this drug seriously overpriced and amounts to 600 rubles. for 10 candles, and in some pharmacies it reaches up to 700 rubles. for the same volume, for young parents the question arises of selecting an analogue of Kipferon, which will be just as safe, but also effective. Experts advise taking a closer look at the following options:

  • Viferon. The same antiviral suppositories based on interferon, but with ascorbic acid and alpha-tocopherol acetate. They are attractive primarily because of the dosage range of the active substance: 500, 1000, 3000 thousand IU. This allows you to select a therapeutic dose with greater accuracy. The only caveat is that it is possible adverse reactions, expressed skin rashes and itching.
  • Laferobion. Also in the form of suppositories that work on interferon. There are only 2 dosage options - 150 and 500 thousand IU. Also contains ascorbic acid. Release - 3 and 5 suppositories. Indications for use include not only infections and viral diseases, but also tumors. At the same time, there is a long list of contraindications.
  • Ergoferon. A good budget analogue, however, it belongs to the group of homeopathic medicines. Focused on preventing complications from bacterial infections, as well as preventing acute respiratory viral infections not associated with influenza. According to the principle of action, it is weaker than Kipferon.

It is important to understand that even with the same set of active components, the slightest change in dosage can lead to absolutely different reactions body. In addition, it is impossible to exclude differences in the processing of each substance, which ultimately leads to the fact that even analogues act completely differently. If you need to find a replacement for Kipferon for your baby, it is better to entrust this issue to a professional.

Reviews from parents and pediatricians

According to doctors, Kipferon is well suited for treating even the smallest - newborns, for whom most medications are prohibited, because. their immunity is still imperfect and the body reacts negatively to almost any intervention. From the point of view of effectiveness, these suppositories are also considered very worthy, and due to the absence of contraindications, they can be used even without the supervision of a doctor.

From young parents, reviews of Kipferon suppositories for children are also mostly positive: they note ease of use, good result after the first day, as well as the absence of negative effects on infants.

  • Regina: Kipferon, of course, is an extremely expensive medicine, especially considering the number of suppositories in the box. But it works great during children’s acute respiratory viral infections and, if necessary, to get rid of complications after vaccinations. I tested it on both my premature daughter (1 year 2 months) and my eldest son (5.5 years old). Children tolerate the medicine well.
  • Alla: To a small child It’s scary to give any medicine, especially if he’s too sensitive, but if he has a temperature of under 39, there’s no room for doubt. The doctor who came to the call gave us a whole list of medications, among which was Kipferon. We started with it - it seemed the safest, we didn’t want to shove the whole set into a one and a half year old baby. There were no problems with the introduction of suppositories, and on the first day they put 2 pieces. (interval - 10 hours), contrary to the instructions. Then we switched to the smallest dose. Kipferon worked well: the temperature dropped to 37.4 after the first candle. There were no more jumps up, the child calmed down, even slept normally. The infection was dealt with in 5 days.

Infectious diseases are a problem that every person faces from time to time. Young children especially often suffer from them, because the child’s immune system is just beginning to form. It is in such cases that doctors recommend Kipferon suppositories. And today, many parents are interested in questions about what is included in the drug and whether it can be dangerous.
