What dry food is best for a pug? Detailed pug puppy menu Feed a pug puppy 4 months

At the age of three months, the rapid growth of a pug puppy begins. It lasts until 7 months, when the puppy reaches the size of an adult animal. Further, the growth of the animal slows down and continues with a small annual increase until the age of 1.5 years.

During this period, the owner must provide good food to your pet - balanced and in sufficient volume. It is during this period that the puppy can eat a portion that is 1.5-2 times more than a portion of an adult pug, but this should not embarrass the owner. Energy costs for growth in puppies are significantly higher than any motor activity adult dog. At the age of 3 months, the puppy must be provided with a full 4 meals a day.

An approximate menu for a small pug at that age is following products: in the first and second feeding, the baby is offered kefir, yogurt or milk, honey and raw milk can still be added to the mixture quail egg, it is very good for the prevention of rickets to give the baby cottage cheese or low-fat varieties of cheese. Vegetables can be given in any form - raw, boiled or stewed. At this age, puppies can add black bread with butter and cheese, cut into slices, in a serving. Puppies are given porridge cooked from any cereals, with the exception of semolina, raw fruits, dried fruits, crushed garlic cloves, which disinfect the intestinal mucosa well. Several times a week the puppy is offered boiled fish and even slices of salted herring.

The third and fourth feeding daily is raw meat. The bones in the meat should be well beaten with a hammer, the puppy should eat them. Raw bones are well digested in the dog's stomach, while boiled bones simply spread, but do not dissolve. In feeding the puppy, lean meats are necessarily given - beef, veal, lamb, chicken, rabbit, turkey. Pork puppies are contraindicated. Lamb is the best for pugs. If you feed a bird, then the paws, wings and necks must be beaten off and given to the puppy. At this age, regurgitation is quite acceptable - everything that the puppy's stomach cannot digest, it burps.

In small courses, it is recommended to add Eniferm to the puppy's diet, which helps to create in the stomach and intestines of the puppy normal microflora. This will help the puppy to transition painlessly to solid food and protect against many diseases.

From the age of 5 months, the puppy is transferred to 3 meals a day, keeping dairy products, cereals and raw meat in the diet. Pug food must be solid, otherwise his back will begin to sag. You need to feed your puppy to the fullest.

After seven months, the puppy switches to the diet of an adult dog - morning and evening or afternoon and evening. In the first half of the day, he is fed porridge and dairy products, and in the second - raw meat and vegetables.

original pug dog

The seeming solidity and powerful torso give the impression that pugs never get sick, they are always strong and strong. In fact, these dogs have their own characteristics of the body. The Chinese breed inherited a slender physique, wrinkled appearance with a short muzzle, short strong paws.

Short hair does not mean that it does not need care. The skin of pugs, first of all, suffers from malnutrition, irritations, rashes and prickly heat may appear.

It should be noted that the pug has a small ventricle, but they are prone to overeating. Hence the resulting problems with the gastrointestinal tract, pugs are also prone to obesity and get sick more often than others. diabetes. Also, because of the short muzzle, dogs often snore, they have difficulty breathing.

Eye prolapse due to eyelid injuries common problem in pugs, if you have not heard about it, be sure to study this issue. If all these features make you afraid and unwilling to take care of a dog, it is better not to buy a pug as a pet.

If you are just in love with the breed, then you will not be able to refuse a cute and attractive creature. Such loving owners, on the contrary, will bring a lot of pleasure taking care of a pet. Perhaps even you will avoid all the problems that can accompany him through life, knowing how to prevent and avoid unforeseen situations.

You must remember that the pug's stomach does not accept liquid food, and if at the beginning the mother fed the puppy with milk, and you acquired it when he was two months old, do not rush to remove milk from the diet, do it gradually, but the rest of the food should be a little firmer. By the way, milk for pugs helps prevent heartburn, which they often suffer from.

The need to feed a dog with dry food arises if the puppy was previously fed with it. Be sure to buy pug food expensive and balanced. In this case, vitamins are not needed, in the feed the nutrition is completely balanced for all vitamins and minerals. It is important to read on the packaging - how many grams are needed for feeding, and of course compare this with the diet that the puppy had earlier.

Adherents of natural nutrition also exist and there are many of them. If you choose natural food, you should take care of additional vitamins and distribute one feeding in such a way that all vitamins are balanced, and its menu includes vegetables, fruits, meat and cereals, herbs and vegetable oil.

They feed the baby after a walk and sleep, food should be given only from a bowl, and not from hands or from the table. Puppies from 1 to 2 months need food 6 times a day, and sometimes they wake up at night, as the mother fed the baby at night. From 2 months to 4, meals are mainly 4 meals a day, and the number of servings increases. Up to six months you feed 3 times a day, after 6 months - only 2 times.

What to choose - a balanced diet with dry food or natural - is up to you, the second is less expensive in terms of money, but more tiring in terms of cooking time. And the first is more expensive, but with a minimum of effort on your part.

Some dogs are allergic to dry food, but this is mainly due to the presence of a product in it that the dog does not tolerate. It is almost impossible to identify this product, it is easier to refuse it and switch to another or natural one.

The transition is carried out carefully, this process is long, so as not to affect the gastrointestinal tract. And with natural nutrition there can be such problems, it is much easier to identify the cause here. It is enough to remove one or two products from the menu and the dog begins to recover.

Basic rules for eating

A pug, as you understand, is a person who is sensitive to various innovations and changes. Thus, the introduction of a new menu may affect the dog with a deterioration in well-being. To keep everything in order, follow a few rules and facts about puppy nutrition:

  • Mixing natural food and "drying" is harmful to the health of the dog. Even if you decide to give porridge with vegetables first, and food in the evening, you can’t do this. The digestion of these types of foods is different, the stomach suffers, and at the same time the dog also suffers. If at a young age everything goes more or less well, then it worsens with age.
  • The introduction of new products should also be very careful, from such drastic changes, a pug can get heartburn, gastrointestinal upset and nausea.
  • Pugs are only suitable for super-premium food, not all food designed for ornamental breeds, suitable for pug. Moreover, for pug puppies - this is a separate menu, for pregnant women and aged dogs - another.
  • Being on a natural diet, the puppy should receive equally meat, vegetables and cereals, 1% oil and vitamin supplements.
  • From meat dishes, it is better to give preference to such products - beef, rabbit, lamb and chicken. For puppies, it is better to pour boiling water over the meat, in order to avoid helminthic invasion, but if you are confident in the quality of meat, it is better to slowly accustom to raw meat- it can be scraped and finely chopped, it is undesirable to grind it into minced meat.
  • For proper assimilation of food, it is better for pugs to take long walks - about 2 hours of walks a day.

Useful components of a healthy diet

How to feed a pug puppy for 2 months if he is sick? Leave the regimen in the same amount - 6 times a day, just consult a veterinarian - perhaps some foods need to be removed from the diet.

It is also advised to feed such a small one with milk mixtures, but goat or cow's milk should be removed from the diet.

It is useful to prevent diseases with garlic - once a week, diversify any dish with such an ingredient in the name of your pet's health.

During the day, try to supply the tiny body with useful things, but do not overfeed the baby. Low-fat cottage cheese, kefir, yogurt will help you - these products are rich in proteins and at the same time beneficial bacteria. Do not disregard this fact, do not replace fermented milk with milk - it is harmful and dangerous.

What else is useful, besides sour milk, for a pug:

  • Lean meat, raw or steamed;
  • boiled fish;
  • Offal, but they do not replace meat;
  • Chicken bones pre-soaked and beaten off, not boiled;
  • Food should be warm, not cold or hot;
  • Water must be fresh, not from the tap;
  • Cereals - buckwheat, rice, millet, oatmeal, wheat;
  • It is useful to eat cartilage from moslov;
  • Vegetable oil, herbs;
  • You can do everything except potatoes, cabbage, legumes, corn.

Prohibited foods - what should be discarded when feeding a pug:

  • Chocolate;
  • Sweets and sweeteners, flavorings;
  • Pasta, flour, pastries;
  • Mushrooms;
  • Semolina;
  • Milk after 4 months;
  • Grapes, raisins, citrus fruits;
  • Potatoes, legumes, corn;
  • smoked products;
  • Pickled;
  • Too much salt and sugar is harmful;

Being on a natural diet, the pug should be given black bread, egg yolk, a little honey, dried fruits, garlic, fresh fruits. By the way, fresh fruits perform many functions for the body - they saturate with liquid, satisfy hunger, help digest nutritious food, and most importantly, they clean teeth and sharpen them.

Pugs can be fed not only dry food, but also natural products. The main thing is that they are all fresh. The owner must be able to properly make a diet. Then, getting a full set of vitamins, fats, carbohydrates and proteins, the pug will delight you with excellent health, good mood and tireless energy. Speaking of useful properties different products, features of "dry" nutrition and vitamin supplements, we will tell you in detail how to feed a pug in different ages and physical condition.

Let's start with catering pug puppies. A baby at the age of two months should be fed five to six times a day. Be sure to ask the breeder what he ate before so that the transition is not abrupt.

Remember that both malnutrition and overeating are harmful to your pet. Make sure nothing is left in the puppy cup after dinner. Clean up leftovers immediately. If you didn’t finish it, it means that there was a lot and it is worth reducing the portion. And if you licked the bowl, then at the next feeding, increase the amount of food. In this way, you will determine the right portion, which you will increase as the growing puppy needs.

Choosing organic products, remember that for the formation of bones, a small pug needs to ensure the intake of calcium in the body. Cottage cheese, kefir, curdled milk are the main suppliers of this element.

For protein replenishment, use prepared raw ground beef or finely chopped pieces of meat (chicken, rabbit, lamb). Pugs are very fond of raw meat and quickly get used to it. Boiled meat and sea fish should also be on the menu.

There will be no benefit from smoked meats

It is not recommended to give pug puppies liquid soups; it is better to cook friable buckwheat or rice porridge. You can cook it in milk or beef broth. Use sunflower or olive oil as a dressing. Salt is not required.

From plant food for puppies and teenagers up to a year will be useful:

  • grated carrots seasoned with vegetable oil;
  • steamed vegetables - carrots, cabbage, eggplant, tomatoes;
  • chopped greens (as an additive in the main menu);
  • dried fruits (as a treat);
  • bananas (if there is no allergy);
  • fresh fruit (according to individual taste);
  • Bulgarian Bell pepper(for an amateur).

daily requirement protein for puppies is 30 g per 1 kg of animal weight, fat - 2.64 g per 1 kg, carbohydrates - 8-10 g. These are the norms for a growing organism, and for adult pugs they are half as much.

Now remember what it is absolutely impossible to feed a pug puppy: pork, smoked products (sausage, meat, fish), pasta, semolina, cakes, chocolates and other sweets, spicy and fatty dishes from his table.

We calculate the rate

To calculate the approximate amount of natural food for a pug older than a year old, you need to multiply the coefficient 0.04 by the weight of the dog. As a result, the necessary daily rate. For example, a pug weighing seven kilograms for one day will need 280 grams of food. Which ones, see the table:

In the proposed for feeding the pug daily diet meat should be alternated with offal. You can give raw or boiled liver, heart, tripe, chicken stomachs. Lung is used only in boiled form. Egg yolk once a week will completely replace a quail egg. It will be useful to add garlic to cooked dishes, but no more than one clove per week. To replenish your energy supply with carbohydrates, include boiled potatoes in your pug's diet. But be aware that an excess of starch causes diabetes.

Say a word about vitamins

During mating, pregnancy, childbirth and for a nursing bitch, the owner should increase the amount of vitamins consumed by her.

Milk, liver, fish oil, carrots, tomatoes and greens are foods rich in vitamin A, which is necessary for offspring growing in the stomach. For the development of muscles, good skin and wool, vitamin B is needed, which is found in brewer's yeast, cottage cheese, kefir, and potatoes. Vitamin C supports the immune system during this stressful period for the pug bitch. It enters the body with vegetables and fruits.

Most vitamin D, which strengthens bones and tendons, is found in fish oil and liver. And salads from carrots and beets with greens will make up for the lack of vitamin E, which is responsible for the reproductive system of the body and the smooth course of pregnancy.

All of the above vitamins are important not only for a puppy bitch, but also for pugs of any age and condition. These products contain: calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, sodium, chlorine, iodine and other elements. They are needed for well-coordinated work all organs of the dog, which directly affects the state of her health.

We use the trial method

Despite the many advantages of natural food, you cannot independently determine the quantitative set of useful trace elements and vitamins. You won't know what to replace them with. Therefore, a diet of natural products will always be only approximately balanced. An excellent way out of the situation is ready-made dry food for a pug, where specialists have already calculated everything for you.

The amount of proteins, fats, carbohydrates and other components is indicated on the package. There are also recommendations on how to properly feed a pug, that is, how much food should be given at one time, depending on its weight. You will only have to follow the proposed scheme. However, not all so simple.

The fact is that the pug is a breed prone to allergies, obesity, and digestive system it is not very stable. Therefore, in practice, until you find the food that is right for your pug, you may have to try more than one brand. We recommend choosing ready meals no less than premium.

For example, the well-known Royal Canin ( Royal Canin) can attract many Pug owners at a relatively low cost. It's prepared for plant-based with the addition of chicken by-products. But about whether it will suit your pug is a moot point. To determine this, you first need to buy quite a bit of food and see how the dog and his body react to such food. This advice applies to any brand and manufacturer. Such food for pugs is of the following types:

  • Brit (hypoallergenic, with lamb meat and rice);
  • Organix (for sensitive dogs);
  • Acana (for puppies, lactating and pregnant bitches);
  • Bosh (for older dogs);
  • Orijen (due to its high protein content, it is suitable for very active pugs, puppy bitches);
  • Wolfsblut (does not cause allergies);
  • Go Natural Holistic (grain free, suitable for dogs of all ages)
  • Eukanuba Adult (high quality sources of protein and low content fiber);
  • First Mate (grain free fish and potato based puppies);
  • Arden Grange (high meat component).

For pugs, the American Canidae All Life Stages food, which is not too high in protein, may also be suitable. Or Hill`s Science Plan, which is produced in the Netherlands. Its advantage is in the reduced amount of proteins, and the convenience is in the small size of the granules.

As you can see, the modern assortment is quite wide. It remains to be added that it is not recommended to give wet ready-made food to a pug. But a special canned meat mixture mixed with crushed biscuits is quite acceptable. These products contain the required amount nutrients and minerals.

Not worth saving

In all brands, products are differentiated by purpose and age of dogs - for puppies, adults or aging animals (after 7 years). There are clearer indications, especially in the period up to a year. For example, the indication on the package "For dogs prone to obesity" or "For puppies from 1 to 3 months" will leave no doubt about the use of food.

Remember that you should not save on food, as it will not be of high quality. In the composition of cheap feed, the main ingredients are corn and soy. We are not talking about meat. So, there will be no biological value in it. Yes, and it is absorbed by the dog's stomach much worse.

For recovery after an illness or when depleted of vitamins winter time pugs need more nutrition. For the bitch, this is the period of pregnancy and raising puppies. At such moments of life, you need to add special vitamin supplements to the pug's food, which you can purchase at veterinary pharmacy. Proper care and feeding of a pug, in accordance with its age, health and needs, will definitely affect appearance and behavior.

General nutrition rules for pugs of any age

Train your dog to eat at the same time. An adult pug needs to be fed twice a day. At the same time, half of the food should be protein, that is, meat and fish. Never give your pet frozen food or food that is too hot. All natural food should be at room temperature.

In the morning feeding, use lighter food - cottage cheese, porridge from buckwheat or rice, vegetables and herbs. Heavy foods, meat and fish, are best given in the evening. allergic reactions most often caused by poultry and fish, in rare cases - vegetables and dairy products. At the slightest sign of allergy, rule out junk food from the diet. Your constant attention to your pet will help determine what is safe and healthy to feed your pug.

Never mix dry and natural food. It disrupts activity internal organs dogs.

Do not buy dry food in bulk and do not take multi-colored kibbles, as this will not impress the pet and will not bring any benefit. However, he can receive a certain dose of "chemistry".

Always, regardless of whether you keep a pug on dry or natural food, he must have free access to water.

When summer comes, dogs' appetite decreases. The heat has a very strong effect on them. But there is nothing terrible in this. Get used to the fact that the dog will react to the weather in a similar way.
